CITY OF CHATHAM
FRIDAY, 28 OCTOBER 1966
FROM 10:00 a.m, to 4:30 p.m.
for the purpose of providing an opportunity for individuals
and organizations to make representations to the Committee
concerning the responsibility of the Public Schools in the

At a recent mess dinner at
CFB Clinton, Flight. Lientenant
J. M. (Gibby) Gibson was honored
prior to his retirement from the
RCAF after a stint of 21 years'
service.
F/L and Mrs. Gibson reside
at 68 Wellington St., Exeter.
He was a teacher prior to
joining the RCAF in 1941. He
underwent pilot training in Vic-
toriaville, Sky Harbour and Camp
Borden, receiving his wings in
December 1941. He was then
transferred overseas.
lie rejoined the RCAF in 1951
when hostilities broke out in
Korea. He served as a flying
instructor at Centralia, and later
as a Staff Officer at Air Force
Headquarters in Ottawa,
F/L Gibson was the CFB Clin-
ton public relations officer.
He plans to take a position
with the Department of Immigra-
tion, and is presently taking a
training session in Ottawa.

Some 20 minutes later, Con-
stable Wright was called to an
accident in the same vicinity, It
Was on liighway 4 at the Usborne-
Tuckersmith line.
Involved was a car driven by
Muriel McLachlan, RR 3 Kippen.
She was northbound on Highway
4 and failed to see cars stopped
ahead in the process of making
a left turn. She was unable to
stop in time and took to the ditch
and hit a telephone pole.
Damage to the car was listed
at $400 and she ended up with a
bloody nose and a black eye.
Her 12-year-old daughter, Carol
Anne, sustained minor injuries
On Sunday at 5:40 p.m. a car
driven by Kenneth Wayne Hardy,
RR 1 Lucan, crashed through four
guardposts on Highway 4, just
south of the Crediton Road, and
ended up in the west ditch.
A passenger, Richard Cowan,
suffered an injury to a knee and
the car was damaged to the ex-
tent of $500.

he had been proceeding north
when a passing car pulled back

Agreed with the recommenda-
tion of the Grand Bend Chamber
of Commerce in naming the new
asphalt walk along the beach
"Centennial Sunset Walk".
Received a letter from MOH
Dr. Fred Boyes, stating that no
health hazard existed at the dump.
Councillor Martin reported regu-
lated dumping, Monday, Wednes-
day and Friday and that fresh
sand is being applied every couple
of weeks.

Town crashes

Damage to the two cars totalled
$650.
On Sunday afternoon, two cars
were involved in a minor crash
at the intersection of Anne and
Main Streets. Involved were Ken-
neth J. Porter, London, and Wil-
liam R. Harrow, Atwood.
Both cars were pro c e e di ng
north on Main Street when Har-
row signalled a left turn onto
Anne. However, when Porter at-
tempted to stop he found he had
no brakes and so attempted to pull
out to the left, but struck the
Harrow vehicle.
Total damage was listed at
$255.

The extremely wet weather
of the past week has drastically
curtailed harvesting operations,
especially in white beans.
A large percentage of the beans
in the Hensall-Exeter area have
been cleaned up, but Howard
Scane, manager of W.G. Thomp-
son and Sons of Hensall esti-
mates about 40% of the crop
in the Kirkton-St.Marys district
s still in the field.
Shipments to the Hensall mills
that were at a peak a week ago
have dropped off considerably.
