MILES Agricultural Representative, tinron County and Secretary of Local Committee. First of all as Agricultural Representative, may I extend greetings from all the farm peo- ple of Huron to our many visitors to the 1966 International plowing Match. 11uron is a rich agricultural county with over 5,000 farmers D. H. MILES producing all breeds of livestock and growing almost every crop for feed for livestock or for sale as a cash crop. This is ac- complished on 624,000 improved acres out of a total acreage of 765,000 acres. Our visitors to the 1966 Inter- national Match will find as their hosts, keen farm families proud of their homes, land and families. These are excellent business melt who are always-seeking new tech- niques and methous of extending their farm operations for the production of food to feed a hungry nation and to make a standard of living that is re- warding for the efforts they put into the business of Agriculture. As Secretary of the. Local Corn - mittee, we hope that this com- mittee, along with the Directors of the Ontario Plowmen's As- sociation and their Secretary Manager, Mr. F, A, Lashley, have made arrangements that will please the exhibitors and visitors. Our host, James M. Scott and son Bill, along with the many farmers of the surrounding area have been very co-operative in allowing the use of the land for the tented city and match activi- ties, Our 85 committee men have given of their time and talents in organizing this event under the guidance of Co-chairmen Mc- Gavin and Snider, We would like to say that we have foreseen and taken care of the wishes of all people, but an undertaking of this size almost makes this an impossible task. We will say, however, all our people will do everything to help solve your problems and we all extend a welcome to exhibitors and visit- ors and hope you enjoy your short stay in Huron and will want to come back and see us again, Head local planning committee James M. Scott (left) of Scott Farms, at Seaforth, site of this years International is mayor of tented city where nearly 300 exhibitions will display the latest in farm machinery. The site for the match was chosen by the Ontario Plow- man's Association and from then on the local committee made all arrangements and this includes, leasing the farms, having crops rotated, fixing a budget, arrang- ing for interim financing as they start out without funds. The bud- Huron plowing — Continued from page 9 involved putting on a plowing match and this responsibility falls on the shoulders of the faithful members of the associa- tion. In 1946 the International Plow- ing Match in the County of Huron was held at Port Albert at what was then the old Airport. This year, 1966, the International is again to be held in Huron on Scott Farms located on the north corner of Seaforth. The location is almost perfect in every detail and the Huron plowboys are built up on the expectations that the 1966 International Plowing Match will draw the biggest crowd of any Match that has ever been held anywhere in Ontario.
