STAFFA
The historical research and
current events meeting of Staffa
WI was held at the home of Mrs.
John Templeman, W e dne s day
evening, Sept. 28. Mrs. Walter
O'Brien presided.
Mrs. John Templeman com-
mented on the motto, The past
cannot be changed but the future
is in our hands. Twenty five mem-
bers and visitors answered the
roll call, by a candy recipe and
sample of same.
Each member brought a keep-
sake for display and the branch
curator had the two volumes of
the Institute Tweedsmuir history
on display. She also outlined the
duties of the Tweedsmuir com-
mittee and asked that all mem-
bers co-operate in gathering in-
formation and material for the
books,
rs Mrs. Walter O'Brien chose as
her topic a paper on "Col John
McCrae" author of the well known
poem "In Flanders Fields" tell-
ing of his home in Guelph and
his service in the army which
instigated the writing of this
poem.
The special feature was Mrs.
Mervin Nairn's button collection
and her comments. Joanne Tern-
pleman also displayed her ser-
viette collection.
Mrs. Carter Kerslake pre-
sided for the business. Plans
were made for the Fall rally to
be held in Stratford Coliseum
Thurs. Oct. 20. An invitation
from Carlingford Institute was
accepted for the evening of Oct.
24. Mrs. Walter O'Brien and
Mrs. Gerald Agar were named
a committee to pack the Christ-

Wendy of Kitchener visited Sun-
day with her mother, Mrs, Geo-
rge Campbell.
Mr. Wm. Brenner is a patient
Mr. and Mrs. John Arts and
family and Mr, and Mrs. Bob
Morrissey attended the Arts-
Kelly wedding in Hamilton last
Saturday.
Mr. Johnny Hall flew home
from Vancouver last Saturday
night to visit his parents and
family for three weeks, Mr. and
Mrs, John Hall Sr.
Mrs. Laura McCann has re-
turned after visiting for two
weeks with her daughters in
Detroit,

October 1 a group of people
from the Canadian National, In-
stitute of the Blind were guests
of Mr. Eisenbach at the Eisen-
inch Museum, Grand Bend..
They came by bus load from
the CNIB Centre in. London. There
were 18 and each had his or her
escort as well as a hostess for
the group, Mrs. Morning Star.
They enjoyed their tour very
much. As well as telling the
year of an article it was explain-
ed how they were made. Where
possible they handled things to
get an idea of what they looked
like.
After touring the museum they
went to the chapel and sang
hymns then back to the museum
for a barbecued chicken dinner
which was greatly enjoyed by all.
The chickens were barbecued
by Mr. W. Waters and Mr. K.
McGregor in behalf of Parkhill
Lions Club who also donated the
use of their barbecue equipment.
Mrs. K. McGregor supplied
salads and with the help of her
daughter, Mrs. Thompson, Mrs.
Nichols and Mrs. J. Dalton made
a superb job of catering.

just returned home after a motor
trip to Banff and Lake Louise.

reaches 88

A surprise birthday dinner on
the occasion of Mr. Alex Bail-
lie's 88th birthday was held at
his home Monday last. Guests
were Mrs. Rosie Collins, Mrs.
Ruth Perkins, Mrs. Myrtle Short-
hill and Miss Cora Nuttycomb all
of London.
Mr. Frank Parkinson and
Glenn visited the former's sist-
er, Miss Adelaide Parkinson,
Granton, Monday afternoon hon-
oring her 90th birthday. Mr. &
Mrs. Wm. Rodd, Exeter, also
spent the afternoon with her.
Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Davies,
Windsor were Sunday guests with
Mr. & Mrs. McLeod Mills.
Mr. & Mrs. Cleve Pullman
visited Sunday with Mr. & Mrs.
Sam Giles, Science Hill.
A very large funeral attended
by relatives and friends was
held Monday for the late Hubert
McKeever who passed away in.
St, Joseph's Hospital, London
last Saturday.
He is survived by his wife
former Evelyn McCann and
daughter Mary of London, son,
Pat and daughter Cathy at home,
Brother of (Geraldine) Mrs, Ed-
ward Ash, Detroit; Mrs. Kath-
leen Houlahan, Stephen township,
Mrs. (Nora) Robert Beach, Cali-
fornia; Austin, Toronto, Gordon
of Parkhill.
Body rested at Harry Hoffman
Funeral Home. Requiem Mass
was sung by Rev. Father Jansen
PP assisted by Rev. Father Veit-
enheimer, Parkhill. Burial in
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Ceme-
tery.
Six nephews of the deceased
acted as pallbearers.

daughter Mrs. Mary Bedard left
by plane this week for Vancouver
to visit Mr. and Mrs. Groome
and their family,
Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Carey
and Theresa visited with rel-

over the weekend. While there
Theresa left by jet for Cali-
fornia.
Mrs. Wm. Patterson and girls
of Churchill are visitors with
her father, Mr. Joe Dietrich

Mr. and Mrs. Laurence
McCann spent the weekend in
Sudbury visiting with relatives
and attended their niece's wed-
ding.

the club "The Club girl enter-
tains" are Mrs. B. Daynard,
Mrs. C. Douglas, Mrs. R. Laing
and Mrs. G. Carey.
The members are entertaining
their husbands Oct. 26 and Mrs.
R. Smale, Mrs. J. Miller and
Mrs. J. Templeman are a com-
mittee to plan the evening.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
Lloyd Miller and Mrs. Garnet
Taylor.
CLUB ORGANIZES
The first meeting of the 4-H
Homemaking club "The club girl
entertains" was held at the home
of assistant leader Mrs. Bob
Miss Marg Worden visited last
week with Miss Carol Ann Dow.
Nancy Templeman is a patient
in War Memorial Hospital, Lond-
on.
Mr. Gordon Docking had his
arm severed while harvesting
corn last Friday.
Mr. & Mrs. Eric Norris, Mc-
Donald College, Quebec visited
over the weekend with Mrs. Sam
Norris and Mr. & Mrs. Bob Nor-
ris and family. Mrs. Sam Norris
and Miss Ethel Balkwill return-
ing to Montreal with them to visit
with Mr. & Mrs. Anthony Breit
and Richard.

Bob Laing. The girls learned the
rules for proper dishwashing.
Brenda Kerslake demonstrated
the proper measuring of ingredi-
ents for baking etc.
Mrs. Laing discussed the girls'
reference files giving everyone
pointers. She also displayed sev-
eral lovely flower arrangements.
