Auxiliary met in the church with
Mrs. Lloyd Miller presiding.
Mrs. Robert Laing and Mrs.
Eldon Allen presented the study
book program with a lively dis-
cussion period. Thirteen mem-
bers answered the roll call by
naming a missionary and the
field where they work. A reading
was given by Mrs. Gerald Carey.

tended the funeral of a brother-
in-law the late Garnet Cockwell
formerly of Dashwood, which took
place at the Hopper-Hockey fu-
neral home in Exeter, Thursday.

ed Sunday evening with Mr. &
Mrs. Alex Crago, Kirkton.
Hay woman
tops flowers
One of the top competitions at
the fair was in the flower sec-
tion. About 20 area r esi de n ts
showed some of their garden
finery.
Top winner with 29 points was
Mrs. Case Zeehuisen, Hay Post
Office. She scored seven firsts,
three seconds and two thirds.
Mrs. Wilfred Doupe, Exeter,
was runnerup with 24 points and
Mrs. Gordon Smith, Hay Post
Office, picked up 22 points for
third place.
Finishing with 17 points was
Mrs. Tom Herm, RR 1 Woodham,
while Mrs. Bert Selves, RR 1
Hensall, had 12 and Mrs. Frank
Whilsmith, Exeter, had nine. An-
other Exeter lady, Mrs. L. Hol-
land, had eight points On two
firsts and two thirds.
Sorority to
plant roses
At the meeting of Beta Sigma
Phi Sorority at the home of Mrs.
Ted Jones, Marlborough St.,
Tuesday evening final arrange-
ments were p 1 an n e d for the
group' s centennial project — a
rose garden at Riverview Park.
The climbing roses will be plant-
ed this fail and the hybrid tea
roses in the spring.
The date for the Centennial
Fashion Show was finalized for
May 11.
The program on verse making
was given by Mrs. Robert Flet-
cher and Mrs. Robert Pooley,
and members participated
in making verse contests. The
roll call was answered with a
short poem on Sorority activi-
ties.
The next meeting October 18
will be the model one to which
new pledges are invited.
Mrs. Ross Tuckey and Mrs.
Don Geiser assisted the hostess
during the social hour.
District couple
40 years wed
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ford,
who celebrated their 40th wed-
ding anniversary were entertain-
ed by their family to dinner at
the Dominion Hotel, Zurich, Sat-
urday evening.
Upon their return home they
were surprised by the presence
of about 60 relatives from Mich-
igan, Lucan and the surrounding
community. The couple were the
recipients of many gifts and good
wishes. Lunch was served.

Roll call for the meeting of
McGillivray WI held in West
McGillvray Hall was answered
by "Should mother work outside
the home?"
The motto “The health of a
nation is more important than
the wealth of a nation" was
discussed by Mrs. Joe Carey.
Mrs. Wes Lewis, convener of
home economics and health, gave
an outline story of the pulmonary
laboratory. Mrs. Les Morley
contributed a humerous reading.
A letter was read from the
Institute's adopted child in Korea.
After having consulted the
Council it was decided to go
ahead and purchase two flags and
a clock for the hall as well as
shrubs to be planted. Plans were
made for family night pot luck
supper October 19 and a Hal-
lowe'en party Monday night Oc-
tober 31. First vice-president
Mrs. Tom Kooy presided for
the business.

In response to our SOS last
week for a recipe for Dutch
Peach Pie, Mrs. Nelson Schenk,
Crediton, very kindly sent us a
recipe which we haven't had a
chance to try yet but if it comes
from Mrs. Schenk we know it is
fine. A few peaches are still
around and if you can't find any,
file this recipe for next season.
DUTCH PEACH PIE
Fill an unbaked pie shell with
sliced peaches and pour over the
following:
1 egg, beaten
3/4 cup white sugar
1 tbl flour
3 tbl sweet cream
pinch salt
Mix all together.
Bake at 450 degrees for 15
minutes and reduce to 350
degrees and bake till done.
