Main St. ladies work on bazaar A pot luck supper preceded the meeting of Main Street UCW evening unit last Monday night. After a devotional period led by Mrs. Gerald Northcott as- sisted by Mrs. Graham Arthur and a short business period con- ducted by Mrs. Art Clarke, the rest of the evening was spent in working on projects for the bazaar. Visitors with Mr, & Mrs. Lloyd Fischer and boys were Mr. & Mrs. Dave Whiteford of London for the weekend; Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Stanlake and Debbie, Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Stanlake Jr. and girls on Saturday evening; Mr. & Mrs. Archie Teetzel and Wayne of Mt. Brydges on Sunday. Mr, Amos Wright is a patient in St, Joseph's Hospital, Lon- don, having been admitted on Monday for further treatment. They had the pleasure of renew- ing acquaintances with the Rev. & Mrs. Bren DeVriese and fam- ily, former Exeter residents, who were vacationing at the Shoebot- tom's cottage. Pick apples at Brinsley By GORDON MORLEY BRINSLEY Mr. Andrew Dixon who oper- ates a large apple orchard, com- menced to pick his fall apples Monday. Mr. Dixon along with Mr. John A. Stewart of Ailsa Craig are instigators in produc- ing an earlier maturing corn which will prove useful to short- er growing climates. Mr. Earl Hamilton, who re- ceived severe head injuries in a car accident, is much im- proved. Mr. Clarence Neil was on jury duty in London. Mrs. Andrew Mathers is en- joying a trip to the west. Mrs. Pearl Morley of Lieury was a Sunday visitor with Mrs. Violet Allison, Mr. Tom Kooy is a patient in South Huron Hospital. Mrs. Eagleson of Grand Bend visited last week with Mr. & Mrs. Doug Dixon and family. Mr. & Mrs. Byron Jackson of Parkhill were feted at a birthday party Sunday at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Clarence Cun- ningham, it being the occasion of her father's birthday. Guests were Mr. & Mrs. Ray Jackson and family of London and Mrs. Robert Cunningham. The oc- casion was a surprise birthday party for Mrs. K. Greb. Gordon Schwalm made one in the shape of a maple leaf, green on one side and yellow on the other. Her name and address was writ- ten in a corner. A delegate, Mrs. Davis, from Woodstown, New Jersey, received the holder among other items. She wrote a note of thanks to Mrs. Schwalm and from there the ladies were pen pals. Mrs. Davis says she has al- ways been interested in rural Women and she attended the ACWW convention in Toronto as a delegate from the New Jersey Farm Bureau of Women. She also attended the ACWW con- vention in Dublin, Ireland, last year, and at a banquet she noticed an Ontario badge on the lady across the table. She made herself acquainted and found the delegate was Mrs. W. Mack from Crediton who knew Mrs. Sch- walm. So Mrs. Davis spoke at Crediton WI Tuesday evening. Mrs. Davis is an interesting speaker and tells of so many of the incidental happenings which are seldom mentioned but cap- tivate her listeners. She also has a library of 5,000 slides from which to illustrate her talk. Her pictures of Ireland were very well received. Mrs. Davis says she talks or presents her pictures on an average of three nights a week from September to June. She was chosen "citizen of the year" in her county last year. She and her husband who pas- sed away two years ago, operated five one-hundred-acre farms on which asparagus was grown and marketed. She has retired from farm life but still keeps busy. Following the reception at Nor- don Restaurant the couple left for a trip to Muskoka and North- ern Ontario, the bride travelling in a silk knit teal blue dress with black feathered hat, black patent accessories and corsage of red roses. For travelling in Northern Ontario the bride changed to a three-piece suit with dark brown accessories and nosegay of autumn flowers. The couple will reside in Ot- tawa. The bride is a graduate of Victoria Hospital School of Nursing and the groom is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario.
