C71388 Couple mark 40th event A family dinner was held in the Legion Hall, 'Jensen, Sunday, September 18 to honor Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Treffry on their 40th wedding anniversary. Fifty were in attendance and they presented the couple with a money tree. Mrs. Treffry was the former Margaret Lawson of Stratford. They were married in Strat- ford and resided. in Flint, Mich. where Mr. Treffry was a fore- man in the Chevrolet Shops until his retirement. They now reside at Ipperwash Beach and Fort Meyers Florida. They have one daughter (Shir- ley) Mrs, Walter Wulf of Detroit, Mich, and three grandchildren. Those attending from this dist- rict were Mr, and Mrs. Walter O'Brien of Staffa, Mr. Earl Tref- fry and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Coleman and family of Cromarty, Me. and Mrs. Ross Forrest and family of Kippen; out of town guests were from Stratford, Or- illia, Flint, Fenton, Grand Blanc and Detroit, Mich. Mrs. Arthur Treffry is a sister of Mrs. Walter O'Brien of Staffe. and Mr. Treffry, a brother of Earl Treffry of Cromarty. WI chooses voting pair Hensall Women's Institute opened their fall meeting Wed- nesday, September 14 with a pot luck supper, with 26 members present. President Mrs. Beverly Beat- on conducted the business meet- ing. Mrs. V. M. Pyette and Mrs. Clarence Reid were appointed voting delegates to the Huron County WI rally at Auburn, Oc- tober 3. An invitation to the On- tario Hospital, Goderich, Oc- tober 25 was accepted. Mrs. Wilbert pilling gave details re- garding the International Plowing Match to be held in October. Mrs. Carl Payne reported con- cerning the centennial project. Members answered the roll call with "Sing, Say or pay." Program conveners were Mrs. L. Woman's sister dies in Toronto Mrs. Ella Walker was in Tor- onto attending the funeral of her sister, Mrs. Jean Ferguson, wid- ow of the late David Ferguson, who passed away in St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto September 13 in her 74th year. A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Donald Grassick, of Hen- sail, she leaves to mourn her loss, two sons, Dr. J. Allan Ferguson and Ross Ferguson, both of Toronto; six grandchild- ren; a sister, Mrs. Ella Walk- er, Hensall, brother, James Grassick, Clinton and nieces and nephews. Funeral service was from the Trull funeral home Toronto, Sat- urday, September 17 with inter- ment in Mt. Pleasant cemetery. She wore matching brown acces- sories and an orchid corsage, Both the bride and groom are employed by the Department of Highways, London where they will reside. Following rehearsal Friday evening the bridal party was entertained at the home of the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson, RR 2 HenSall, Baskets of pink gladioli and white mums decorated St. Peter's Church, St. Joseph, Saturday, Sept. 10, at 2 o'clock, when Eliza- beth Ann Denomme of London, and Albert Keith Anderson of London, exchanged marriage vows in a double ring ceremony before Rt. Rev. Msgr. Bourdeau. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Remi Denomme, RR 2 Zurich, and the groom's parents are Mr. and MrS. John Anderson, RR 2 Hensall. Given in marriage by her fath- er the bride wore a formal white gown in peau de soie fashioned in slim lines. The sheath line was trimmed with re-embroider- ed Alencon lace at neckline and hemline with lily point sleeves. An over-skirt was draped from the sides of the front of the gown and extended into a cathedral train. A full bouffant veil was held by a peau de sole rose head- piece dotted with seed pearls. She carried a cascade of minia- ture white carnations and pink roses. Mrs. Desmond Sawa, of Lon- don, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. She wore a Pelican pink sate peau gown. The design of the gown was Hoer- length With empire lines, Puritan sleeveS, arid a flowing back panel. She wore a matching rose head- piece with seed pearls arid car- ried a nosegay of white daisies with trailing Moss green ribbon. Bridesmaids, Mrs. Robert Mettl- er, of ZuriCh, and Miss Debra Anderson, Hensall, sister of the groom were gowned identical to the matron of honor. Mrs. Gibson brought a varied and fascinating display of Mexican handiwork, basketweav- ing and archaeological findings. Mrs. Gibson has taken a keen Interest in the welfare of a Mexi- can family by sending text books enabling a child of 10 to teach English to her brother and sister. She explained that our image of a lazy Mexican is quite false and that the majority are very am- bitious and eager to learn. Plans were finalized for the 10th anniversary of the club to be observed with a banquet Oc- tober 12 at Hotel Hensall, guests to include all past members of Hensall Kinettes, Exeter and Clinton Clubs. Convener Mrs. Nancy Browne, St. Thomas, Mrs. Hal Taggart, London, wife of the National President of the As- sociation of Kinsman Clubs, and Reeve Mrs. Minnie Noakes of Hensall. Past President Mrs. Wm. Fuss was presented with her presi- dent's spoon by president Mrs. Jim Hyde. The date for the annual fall rummage sale was set for Saturday, October 15, at the Le- gion Hall. Mrs. William Simpson of De- troit visited last week with her mother-In-law, Mrs. Lou Simp- son, who accompanied her home and visited for several days.
