Sometimes a change of but-
tons will transform a garment's
appearance. If your budget is
limited, restrict your choice to
a simple, well cut garment with-
out trim,
Prices include the high cost
of labor and materials required
to apply trim such as fancy
braids. Sometimes, by remov-
ing fancy buttons and trim you
will have a more classic look-
ing dress than can be worn on
more occasions. Or with tender cubes of beef,

Color it Berry for Fall , •

every complexion. Paris decrees
plum and fuschia, the extremes

Suits, co-ordinated flannels in
soft plaids and matching greys
will be a strong trend.
Bell Bottom Trousers, Coats
are what we'll be wearing and
loving this Fall. The navy pea
jacket has zoomed in on the
fashion front, accented with red
piping or braid. Mate with the
newer bell bottoms with ankle
pleats on the outside of the leg.
Frankly Fake furs for winter
come in colors nature never in-
tended. Fabulous fun to sew and
go in „ a menagerie to choose
from . . squirrel, broadtail,
chinchilla, leopard or calf. Pick
a simple pattern with no collar
or buttonholes and as few seams
as possible. For your first fling
with fur fakes, try a sleeveless
overblouse for apres ski. Bind
edges with thick, elegant braid
instead of facings. Place pattern
on wrong side with pile all going
in same direction; cut from wrong
side with a razor blade. After
seaming, shear pile away from
seam allowances and with a pin,
lift out pile caught in seam on
right side. Go stock yourself an
"animal" in your favourite fab-
ric store and have fun. Happy
Hunting!
Out goes the Granny and in
comes the pant suit . . . so says
Daniel Hechter, handsome 27-
year-old designer from Paris.
Daniel thinks women should look
feminine, however. Sound like a
contradiction? Not at all! The
pale color and soft line of the
jacket gives the trouser suit
feminine flourish.
Do your feet hurt? Perhaps
this news will help you in choos-
ing a shoe that really fits. A
new system of fitting shoes will
be introduced in Canada this
fall. The system will measure the
girth (distance around the ball
of the foot). It will apply first to
men's shoes and later to child-
ren's and women's shoes.
Do you buy or sew your clothes?
Whichever you do, you're con-
2 thin slices of onion
1 tbl diced green pepper
Salt and pepper
1 tp butter
1 tbl barbecue sauce or chili
sauce
For each package use a single
thickness of heavy duty foil (about
18 inches long). Grease one side
of the foil. Place the chops on
the foil; arrange the potato and
carrot slices on top; then add
onion slices and green pepper.
Season with salt and pepper and
dot with butter. Dribble barbecue
sauce or chili sauce over all.
Close foil packages with a
double fold on top. Seal ends
securely so juices will not leak
out. Place packages, meat side
down, on grill for about an hour.
About half way through the cook-
ing time, turn packages over on
the grill. Cook for about 10
minutes, then again turn meat
side down to complete cooking.
Serve right in the foil pack-
ages.
If preferred you can bake the
surprise packages in a pre-
heated 375 degree oven for 60
..;ito 70 minutes or until done.
No longer can barbecue cook-
ing be considered solely an adult
recreation and talent. Junior
chefs all over the country are
invading the family outdoor cook-
ing area. No doubt young chefs
are encouraged by parents who
like to keep their youngsters
"off the streets" and close to
home in their own backyards
or those of their friends.
Outdoor barbecuing is also an
attractive way to get their teen-
agers interested in cooking, A
do-it-yourself meal is greatest
fun of all. Supply your guests
with the food and skewers (square
or angular shafts are best) or
long green sticks—and you're
all set.
With Ontario's wonderful sup-
ply of meat, vegetables and fruit
a great variety for kabobs can
be obtained. Usually the meat,
vegetables and fruit are alter-
nated on the skewers for con-
trasts in color, flavor and tex-
ture. Choose foods that cook
approximately the same length
of time. Some foods such as
potatoes, carrots and onions may
have to be precooked in order
that all foods are done at the
same time.

here, has many exciting moments
to report when she gets home.
She saw Niagara Falls,
attended the Shakespearean Fes-
tival, toured WesternUniversity,
the Corbett farm near Lucan and
CFPL TV in London.
Her one letdown--figuratively
and literally--was when she at-
tempted to water ski in Lake
Huron with Joan Dettmer. The
foreign student was dunked five
times.
Matilde was loaded down with
souvenirs and gifts for her fam-
ily when she departed, and she
indicated she was certainly tak-
ing along plenty of fond memories
of her stay with the McCauley
family.
Is life different here than in
Argentina? "Not very much,"
she stated.
Mrs. McCauley gave her a
few new recipes to take home
and Matilde also left her with
some which she prepared while
in Exeter.
One of the odd experiences she
had was in having a local lad
explain some of this country's
geography to her. As it turned
out, Matilde knew more about it
than he did.
"We learn much more world
geography than you do," she
said in an interview before de-
parting.
Our use of slang expressions
also amused her greatly, as did
having an evening meal at around
6:00 p.m. In Argentina, people
have tea at 4:00 or 5:00 in the
afternoon and then eat supper at
9:00 p.m.
To her, the evening meal here
was served "in the afternoon".
Matilde will now spend a month
with a family in Oklahomabefore
returning to her own country.
1 Gallon Jug LIQUID JAVEX
A young student from Argen-
tina left Exeter on Friday with
the impression that Canadians
are a friendly people. In fact,
she even thinks the animals are
more friendly here than in her
native country.
Matilde Julia, who spent the
past month with Mr. and Mrs.
Terry McCauley, formed her im-
pression of the animals during
a trip to an area farm--one of
the many interesting jaunts she
took while in Exeter as an am-
bassador of "The Experiment
in International Living".
The 20-year-old Argentinean
reported she was able to pet
some calves during her farm
visit. She indicated calves in her
country run away when people
approach them.

proved greatly during her stay
