Ontario, Outdoor Education as
an area of emphasis in school
curricula in Ontario is in its

The Workshop attracted repre-

York, as far south as Alabama
and two other Canadian partici-
pants, both from Alberta.
Ausable Authority Field Of-

forty teachers, recreational di-

presenting public schools, state
agencies and universities in
eighteen states and Canada com-
pleted a twelve day Outdoor Edu-

The National Outdoor Educa-

ence for about ten years and is
under the direction of Dr. Julian
Smith of the Michigan State Uni-
versity's Faculty of Education.
The "Project" is funded by the
U.S. National Education Associa-
tion.
Primary goal of the group is
to train leaders for youth pro-
grams and classroom camping
in the outdoors. Methods of edu-
cating in and for the out of doors
are conceived through all sorts
of outdoor interpretations and
imparting skills for recreation.

Lack of rain for Huron crops
hasn't reached serious propor-
tion, according to Agricultural
Representative Doug Miles, but
he emphatically noted that rain
Irwould be mere than welcome'',
He said precipitation was es-
pecially needed for some of the
late sown crops and "some bean
fields are looking rough",
The heavy rain in June which
was four times more than re-
corded last year — was one of the
reasons why the present dry spell
had not yet created serious prob-
lems.
However, the crop report not-
ed that if the dry spell continues,
spring grains and white beans
may be adversely affected, Sugar
beets in the area are uneven in
some fields as well,
Canning peas are yielding at
least as well as last year, but
later sown peas need more mois-
ture. Pastures are also begin-
ning to suffer from the dry con-
ditions.
Grain and canning corn are
making good use of the heat units
this year.
The Agriculture office staff
reported that most farmers in
the county have practically
rounded up their first cut haying
operations and spring grains are
well out in head and wheat is
turning color.
FOR YOUR MONEY Irrigation equipment from the Ausable Golf Course is being used to water crops on the Dobson farms,
northeast of Exeter. Eighty sprinklers cover an area of seven acres with each five-hour setting giving
moisture to a depth of seven inches. Some 800 gallons of water per minute are being pumped by a diesel
motor on the above field of beans. TRACTORS
