Wednesday evening Elimville
and Thames Road Church con-
gregations gathered in the church
for the induction service of the
Rev. Stewart Miner, formerly of
Beachville.
Rev. Allan Scott of Egmond-
eille and Rev. Murdock Mor-
rison of Varna were in charge
of the service.
At the close Mr. Victor Jeffery
and Mr. William Routly introduc-
ed members of both congrega-
tions to Mr. and Mrs. Miner,
patricia, Charles and John,
In the basement lunch was
served and Rev. Andrew Boa
spoke a few words as well as
Mrs. William Cann, Messrs Wil-

SURPRISE PARTY
About fifty relatives and neigh-
bors of concession 6 and 7 gath-
ered at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Arnold Cann Saturday evening to
honor Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cann
who recently moved off the line
to Highway 83. The evening was
spent in playing euchre. Prizes
were won for ladies high by Mrs.
Gordon Stone, ladies low, Miss
Beth Passmore, men's high, Geo-
rge Kellett, men's low, James
Anderson.

Last Wednesday evening mem-
bers of the United Church choir
gathered at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Lorne Preszcator for a
wiener roast. Also present were
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Lightfoot
who were presented with a gift
from the choir.

A quiet Wedding was solem-
nized at the EUB parsonage, Cre-
diton, Saturday, June 25 when
Ruth Green, London, became the
bride of Eldon Smith, Crediton
with Rev. H. Zurbrigg officiating.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Varley were
the attendants.
A reception was held at the
groom's home, after which the
couple left on a honeymoon to
Northern Ontario. On their re-
turn they will reside on the
groom's farm, Creditors.

CENTRALIA
Families of the school section
held a picnic on the school
grounds last Wednesday evening
to mark the closing of the Cen-
tralia school that has served the
community since 1908. Following
a picnic supper an address was
read and Mrs. Lorne Hicks, the
retiring teacher, was presented
with a chaise lounge and um-
brella.
Mrs. Frank Smyth was pre-
sented with a chaise and lawn
chair in appreciation of services
rendered as school custodian for
a number of years.
The sports opened with a
guessing contest and Randy Mill-
er's guess of 644 beans in the
jar was the closest to the actual
number (638). The pre-school
children's race was won by
Johnny Gloor; girls race, 6-9
years, Firth Adcock, Velda
Tripp; boys, Daryl Tripp, Ricky
Snell; girls, 9-12, Nancy Swartz,

SHOWER FOR BRIDE-ELECT
Marilyn Morgan was guest of
honor at a miscellaneous shower
in thd schoolroom of the church
Thursday evening.
Duets were sung by Margaret
Wilson and Barbara Lamport with
Sharon Lightfoot at the piano and
by Sheila Elston and Judy Blair
with Wendy Elston playing the
piano. A reading was given by
Margaret Heist and an address
was read by Gail Lamport. The
gifts were presented from a de-
corated wishing well by Sharon
Lightfoot and displayed by Elaine
Powe.
Marilyn expressed her appre-
ciation for the gifts. Joanne Hicks
was in charge of the guest book.
HONORED BEFORE LEAVING
ON TRIP
Mrs. Andrew Hicks was hos-
tess at a dinner party at Hook's
Restaurant, London, Sunday eve-
ning honoring her daughter-in-
law, Mrs. Lorne Hicks, prior to
her departure on a trip to the
west coast and California, Mrs.
Hicks will be stopping at points
of interest along the way.

June 30. Mr. Harry Hayter was
chairman for the program of
Solos and duets. A variety pro-
gram was teetered. Miss Ga.bel's
pupils presented her with a gift.
