City children
view the farm
When Mr. and Mrs. Don Ab-
bott were married, Sheila Prince
was their flower girl. Today Miss
Prince is a Grade 2 teacher in
Chelsea Ave., School, London.
Last Wednesday she and her
class were invited to visit the
Abbott farm. What a thrill for
the little people, many of whom
had never been on a farm before!
What fun they had in barn jump-
ing in the hay and visiting all
the animals, including a goat and
baby kid. The mother hens and
little chickens were of particular
interest. To those, who thought
milk came from a bottle and
water from a tap, the cow and
pump, were two of the "World's
Seven Wonders". Everyone had
to work the pump handle and get
his or her own drink. But prob-
ably the big highlight of all, was
Janice's pony. All lined up order-
ly, for a breathtaking ride on a
real pony.
When lunch was served on the
lawn the goat was an uninvited
guest. When the goat grabbed a
piece of watermelon from one
child, all the children wanted to
share their lunch with the goat.
But all good things come to an
end. Finally the exhausted little
people were safely aboard their
bus and homeward bound.
Next day "Thank you" notes
were written, telling what each
enjoyed most. When Mr. and Mrs.
Abbott received these notes, they
were more convinced than ever,
that the afternoon bad been really
worth while.
