Library reports
steady increase
Mrs. G. 11. George, chairman
of Lucan Library Board announc-
ed at, the ninetieth annual meet-
ing of the Lucan Public Library
that a steady increase continued
in membership and book circula-
tion at all levels and at the grade
school level in particular.
The Library is working with
the Ausable Authority and the
Middlesex Public Library in the
preparation of a fall display of
conservation models and books
designed for school children in
particular.
GOLDEN WEDDING
Among those who attended the
golden wedding celebration for
Mr. and Mrs. Sharsel Skinner
of Mitchell, last Tuesday, were
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Banting of
Lucan. Thursday the celebrants
accompanied by Mrs. Carl Bant-
ing of Kapuskasing visited with
Mr. and Mrs. Banting.
Whitby, Toronto, Glencoe and
Lethbridge.
The CWL of St. Patrick's
Church held a pot luck supper
and social evening in the old
school last Wednesday, After a
short business meeting bingo was
played.
Mr. & Mrs. Karl Eldridge of
London, Saturday entertained Mr
& Mrs. A. R. Wilkinson and fam-
ily of Lucan, with a chicken bar-
becue in honor of Father's Day.
Misses Lynne and Joyce Rum-
mell, have returned home after a
week's visit with Dr. & Mrs. S. J.
Morrison of Detroit.
Miss Marilyn Brownlee of Ot-
tawa is holidaying with her father
Mr. Wm. Brownlee.

Anglican
There was a good attendance
Wednesday evening, for the La-
dies Guild meeting in the Parish
Hall. The president, Mrs. Chas.
Haggar was assisted in the de-
votions by Mrs. Clare Stanley.
The new president displayed
her executive ability in handling
unexpected new business and in
clearing up a number of snags
in the old. It was voted to con-
tinue catering for the Lions Club,
twice a month for another year.
Arrangements were made to cat-
er for the Ovens-Ryan wedding
July 9.
A reception was planned for
Miss Lilias Powell, a retiring
Japan missionary, who is ex-
pected to arrive in Lucan, about
July 1, to visit her sister, Mrs.
Cliff Shipley. As she is a ,,Pray-
er Partner", for a number of WA
groups, invitations will be sent
to these groups to attend.
Much time was spent on plan-
ning the chicken barbecue. Mrs.
Jack Murdy reported on the tick-
ets already sold and plans were
made to increase the sale before
the dead-line.
A special meeting will be held
in the Parish Hall Thursday even-
ing, June 23 to finalize barbecue
plans.
JR. CHOIR PICNIC
Rev. and Mrs. E. 0. Lancast-
er, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Jack-
lin, Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Hen-
derson, Mrs. Clarence Hardy and
Mrs. Calvin Haskett accompanied
the junior and intermediate
choirs, on their annual picnic to
Kirkton last Wednesday. After
enjoying the picnic "eats" all
returned to the Lucan PS grounds
for a ball game.

Former resident
saved by a pin
An interesting item to Lucan-
ites and former Lucanites ap-
peared in the June "Living Mes-
sage".
Mrs. A. C. Calder. Dominion
first vice-president, now of Lon-
don, who lived for some years
with her husband, the late Rev.
A. C. Calder on Water St. Lucan,
was recently driving through
London, when a young policeman
waved her over to the curb.
Knowing she had been exceed-
ing the speed limit, she explain-
ed ((Well I'm in a terrible hurry
— I'm late for a meeting at
Huron College"! Just then the
policeman spied her WA pin on
Mark Finlayson, four-year-old
son of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Finlay-
son of Market St., Lucan is apa-
tient in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London, following a car accident
in Lucan, Saturday.
With his older brother and oth-
er small children he was playing
in the laundromat. He ran out to
catch up with the other children
and was hit by a car driven by
Robert Holland of Lucan. He re-
ceived a severe scalp laceration
and head and shoulder fractures
but no brain injury. He was rush-
ed to St. Joseph's Hospital by the
Haskett ambulance.

ship service. The latter led in a.

Mr. Jim Lockyer made ar-
rangements for a picnic at Gib-
bon's Park, London July 10. Mr.
and Mrs. William Froats led in
games, and refreshments were
served.
MESSENGERS
During the Sunday service Mrs.
Jim Lockyer and Mrs. Duncan
McPhee had their last meeting
of the Messengers, in the school-
room. The study book ,,George
and the Chinese Lady" was fin-
ished. Ten members and three
visitors were present.
Graduation exercises were
held for James Walker, Bob Barr,
Allan Melanson and Paul McPhee.
Refreshments were provided by
the two leaders.
SUNDAY SERVICE
Rev. P. Harold Lawson of Lon-
don was the guest speaker at the
Sunday service taking as his text
“Our great Contemporary".
PENTECOSTAL HOLINESS
The June WA meeting was
held at the home of Mrs. Howard
Currie last Tuesday when anum-
ber of boxes were packed for
Alaska. Mrs. Currie led in the
worship.
With the pastor still away,
Rev. James Charlwood of Tor-
onto, will be in charge of next
Sunday's services.
Camp councillor
speaks to CGIT
The Tuesday meeting of the
Lucan-Clandeboye CGIT took the
form of a 6 o'clock supper, which
was preceded by games in charge
of Marilyn Hearn and Brenda
Hyde.
The guest speaker was Miss
Leslie Comfort of Thorndale,
president of the London and Dist-
rict Girls' Council, and a mem-
ber of the Provincial Camp Coun-
cil. Miss Comfort was introduced
by Leader, Mrs. Murray Hod-
gins and thanked by president,
Nancy Park.
It was announced that chevron
certificate had arrived and that
the presentation of chevrons
would be made at the first Fall
meeting.
It was decided to have a swim
"cook-out" July 11, either at
Ipperwash or the Pinery.
Betty Park on behalf of the
group presented a gift to Leader,
Dana Culbert, whose marriage
will take place July 1.
The worship service was taken
by Heather Froats and Jane Cor-
bett.
Guests at the meeting included
Mrs. Morris Comfort, mother of
the guest speaker, and Mrs. Rich-
ard Worthington and daughter
Kathryn of Clandeboye. Mrs.
Worthington has consented to be
a leader in the Fall.
A discussion was held on the
new stained glass window, which
the group is sponsoring. It was
decided to choose the window of
,,Christ Knocking at the Door".
Friends shower
Miss D. Culbert
Miss Dana Culbert, daughter of
Mrs. Mary Squire, has had two
showers in her honor.
Wednesday evening Miss Carol
Hislot, a fellow employee at the
"Canada Trust" entertained 20
girls with a bathroom and per-
sonal shower. Friday night Mrs.
Earl Atkinson of Lucan and Mrs.
Don McTaggart, London, were
joint hostesses for 30 relatives
when they entertained with a mis-
cellaneous shower held at the
home of the latter's parents Mr.
and Mrs. W. W. Garrett, of Lon-
don. Prior to the opening of gifts
Mrs. Hugh Davis gave a reading,
a number of amusing contests and
singsong were enjoyed.
Mrs. Terry Culbert and Miss
Mary Jane Culbert, assisted the
bride-elect to open her gifts.
The Lucan-Clandeboye CGIT
collected 2,500 coat hangers Sat-
urday.
Mrs. J. R. Murray is still a
patient in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London, but is slowly recover-
ing.
Ann Culbert of RR 1 Lucan is
one of a group of Medway stu-
dents who is spending a few days
at Ipperwash.
Mrs. Robert Jenkins is a most
lucky Coffee Club CKSL, member.
Not long ago she won a hamper
and a prize for her favorite re-
cipe. Last Monday she won apair
of nylons and Thursday a pair
of electric scissors. Monday she
won another hamper. How lucky
can one be!
Mr. Edward Dundas of Lake
City, Mich. was a weekend guest
of Mr. & Mrs. Roy Hamilton,
Mrs. Charles Haggar, Mrs.
George Hodgins and Messrs Andy
and Stuart Thompson spent Sun-
day in Toronto, guests of their
brother and sister-in-law Mr, &
Mrs. Hiram Thompson.
Mrs, Jim Davis took her son
Fred to Barrie Thursday. Fred
has secured a position for the
summer and will be staying with
his sister, Mrs. Bill Reavie and
family.
Mr. & Mrs. John Stanley and
sons Stephen and Scott of Leth-
bridge, are spending a three
week vacation with Mr. Stanley's
parents, Mr. & Mrs. Wilbert
Stanley and other relatives.

5 guests of Mr. & Mrs. Allan

Miss Flo Chown has returned
to St. Thomas after spending a
few days with her sister, Miss
Reta Chown.
Mr, & Mrs. Earl Atkinson,
Mr. & Mrs. Ivan Stanley and Mr.
& Mrs. W. W. Garrett attended
the chicken barbecue at Siloam
Church Saturday evening,
Mr. & Mrs. Elmer Walpele
and Avis were weekend guests
of Mrs. Ira Carling and family.
Douglas Barr, son of Mr.. &
Mrs, Tom Barr, is able to be
home after an appendix opera-
tion.
Mrs. Cliff Abbott and Mrs.
Jim Mugford visited Mrs. Clara
Abbott, of Centralia and found
her able to walk with a cane
after her long stay in St. Jo-
seph's Hospital, They also call-
ed on Mr. Murray Abbott,
Mrs. Mary Squire and family
were Sunday guests of Mr. &
Mrs. Terry Culbert whose new
home was partially destroyed by
fire recently.
Bill Lockyer, eight-year-old
son of Mr. & Mrs. Jim Lockyer
was one of the two hundred who
won bicycles in the recent pop-
sicle contest. Hisbicycle arrived
Thursday.
Mr. Jim Burt and family got
moved into the Brand apartmenton
Beech St. over the weekend.
Mr. & Mrs. Peter Wiseman
and family of Whitby and Mr. &
Mrs. Andy Elder of Toronto were
weekend guests of Mr. & Mrs.
Wilbert Stanley.
Elizabeth Bromwich, s m all
daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Al Brom-
wich now of Willowdale, who
underwent an appendix operation
in Toronto Sick Children's Hos-
pital, is able to be home.
The family of Mr. & Mrs. Wil-
bert Stanley held a two meal pic-
nic at the home of Mr. & Mrs.
George Adams of Birr last Sun-
day. Guests were present from
