dents each got their year, Bar-
bara Park, her first year at
Western, Bill Park, his second
year, and Ward Hodgins his sec-
ond year at Guelph,

Flowers on the altar at the
Sunday service were in memory
of the late Charles Nagger, who
passed away four years ago,
work as secretary, for the past
seven years, and of life at the
home.
The speaker was introduced by
Mrs, Orville Jones and thanked
by Mrs. Alex Yoking,
During the business session,
furnishings for the new CE Build-
ing were discussed.
Mrs. Dave Park led in the
devotions, the theme of which
was "Love thy Neighbor".

The date of the Evening UCW
unit meeting was changed from
June 28 to June '7. It took the
form of a pot luck luncheon,
with non-quilters providing the
luncheon for the quilters. The
quilt, which was started Monday
was finished Tuesday.
This was the last meeting until

At the Lucan LionsClub dinner
meeting in the Anglican Church
basement, last Monday night, a
slate of officers was presented,
but the election and installation
will not be held, until the next
meeting, June 20.
Most of the business session
was devoted to a discussion on
the recent convention held in
London.
The next meeting will take
the form of a chicken barbecue
to be held at the home of Lion
Harold Butler Jr., to which the
wives will be guests.
Miss Sandra Abbott, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Don Abbott, was
hostess when 23 Grade 10 Med-
way students and friends accom-
panied by two teachers, Miss
Kennedy and Miss Walton, met
at her "Sauble Road" home for
an outing Saturday evening.
The evening began with a rous-
ing ball game, followed by a hay-
ride trip, with Mr. Ed, Ryan,
now of Concession 4 Biddulph,
providing tractor and wagon. On
the bank of the Sauble River,
which runs through the Abbott
farm was the setting for the final
festivity an appetizing wiener
roast.
He advised the students one
and all, to become involved in
as many school activities as pos-
sible, if they are to keep pace
with the changes of the day.
He concluded by saying, "we
are living in the most exciting
time in the history of man and
each must be prepared to take
advantage of all opportunities",
Alan McPhee was valedictor-
ian, after which Mrs. Allison of
the Lucan staff, thanked the Home
and School for the staff's in-
vitation to attend the banquet.
"Happy Birthday" was sung for
Grace Smith (a pupil) and Mrs.
Mert Culbert,
After the singing of ,1 0 Can-
ada" the students enjoyed an
hour of dancing to records, be-
fore going home.
GENERAL UCW MEETING
The General UCW meeting was
held Thursday evening with the
president Mrs. Chas. Sovereign
presiding.
The guest speaker was Miss
Willms of Craighome Boys' Farm
Ailsa Craig, who spoke of her
Les Kennedy, former chair-
man of the Biddulph-Lucan school
board, was MC for the Lucan
Public School Grade 8 banquet,
held in the Biddulph school Wed-
nesday evening June 8. The ban-
quet was sponsored by the Home
and School Association. Rev. John
Sexton of the Lucan Pentecostal
Church said grace.
Betty Park proposed a toast
to the school to which Ivan Hearn
replied. Mert Culbert's toast to
the school board was replied to
by Chairman Orville Langford.
Mrs. Jim Lockyer president of
the Home and School Association
replied to Mrs. Howard Cur-
rie's toast to the H & S. Mrs.
James Freeman proposed a toast
to the graduates, to which Jim
Hearn replied.
The guest speaker, D. M.
Hoople BA principal of Medway
High School, was introduced by
the MC Les Kennedy.
Mr. Hoople spoke to the young
people whom he hoped to meet
personally, June 17, when the
class visit Medway,
He told them in September
they would begin the second mile-
stone in their lives and that the
next two years would be the most
important years of their life,
and it was up to each to equip
his or herself to meet the many
changes which will confront them.
Mr. Hoople enumerated a few
of the changes during his life-
time, in education, UWO, the ra-
dio, TV, spacetravel etc. "There
is no end to education", he said,
"it ever continues".
Girls graduate
with honours
Last Wednesday, Premier John
R. Roberts was the guest speak-
er at the annual graduation of the
Miss Matthews School, London.
Among the 25 Grade 8 gra-
duates, were two Lucan girls,
Maureen Smith, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. J, W. Smith and Mar-
lene Butler, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Butler Jr. Both girls
graduated with honours. Maureen
also won an art award.
Among the guests were the
parents of the girls and Mau-
reen's two grandmothers, Mrs.
P. 0. King and Mrs. Alex Mc-
Farlane.
Following the tea, served on
the lawn, a graduation dinner
was held at the home of Sandra
Dowler, one of the graduates
at her Wellington Street home.
May 3 Maureen and Marlene
attended the KirktonPreliminar-
ies and were two of the five
chosen to sing at the Annual
Garden Party, July 20. Maureen,
also won a first in art and a
first in composition at the re-
cent London Hobby Fair, held
at the 4,Y".

Mr. Wellington Hodgins of E at-
onia, Sask., left for home, Tues-
day after holidaying with Lucan
and London relatives and his
sister Mrs. Ralph Loney of Cass
City, Mich.
Elizabeth Bromwich, daughter
of Mr. & Mrs. Al Bromwich,
now of Willowdale is a patient
in the Toronto Sick Children's
Hospital, pending an operation.
Mr. Jim Burt spent the week-
end at his home in Picton,
Principal Robert Jenkins of
the Lucan PS was on the sick
list, last week. He had to miss
the Wednesday Grade 8 banquet,
at the Biddulph Central school
and was also absent all day
Thursday. Mrs. Sims of Granton
supplied for him.
Mrs. Jane Somerville has re-
turned home after a few days
visit with her daughter, Mrs.
R. 0. Spence and family of At-
wood. While there she attended
convocation at McMaster's Uni-
versity, Hamilton, wh e r e her
grandson James Hamilton, was
among the graduates.
Mrs. Sheridan Revington spent
Thursday with her mother, Mrs.
Harry McFalls of London, who
has been on the sick list.
Mrs. Albert Hall, of Eston,
Sask., has returned home after
visiting her cousins, Mr. & Mrs.
Maurice MacDonald and Mr. &
Mrs. Jack Dickens.

ed away at her late residence
Lot 32, Concession 1 Biddulph,
Friday June 10. The body rested
in the Murdy funeral home, Lucan
until Sunday then to the McFar-
lane and Roberts funeral home
Lambeth, where the Rev. Wes
Mitchell of Delaware, conducted
funeral services Monday June 13.
Interment was in Scottsville.
Pallbearers included Messrs
Ray Hodgins, Gordon Phillips,
Wilson Hodgins, Wilbert Cook,
George Gowonlock and Alex Hend-
erson.
Mrs. Willis is survived by
two sons, Enos and Merrill of
Clandeboye, three brothers, Earl
Monteith of London, Herbert and
Lawrence Monteith of St. Thom-
as, two sisters Mrs. Jane Beck-
ham of London, Mrs. Nora Bully
of Windsor and one grandchild,
Roy Willis.
Daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. George Arthur Monteith,
Mrs. Willis, was the former Jo-
anna Monteith, born in the Lam-
beth district.

Tom Weller Jr. of London, son
of the proprietor, has been in
Charge of extensive alterations
and renovations. The large east
Window has been closed, the coil-
ing lowered, new lighting install-
ed, walls panelled with wood, new
flooring, counter space enlarged
and additional new covered Stools
added.
Mr. Weller, who took a spe-
cial course iii Toronto, really
displayed his skill, in the mod-
ernistic ornate ceiling.
Pyjama Party
Miss Jane Crozier, was host-
ess for 28, Grade 9 A Medway
students for a pyjama party from
8:30 pm Friday to 10 am Sattir-,
day, Festivities began with a
wiener roast, followed by music,
dancing and horse-back riding
and ended with a swim at Ilder-
ton at 10 am Saturday. Mrs.
Glen ti a s kett assisted Mrs.
Crofter at the 7:30 am break-
