HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Exeter Times-Advocate, 1966-06-16, Page 7Western show attracts 50 horses Top Hats in action A group of motorcycle enthusi- asts from CFB Centralia., Exeter and Hensall have formed their or- ganization known as the Top Rat Cycle Club. At the moment the club comprises 12 members, but there are 3'1 prospective mem- bers in the area. The clubhouse is located on the farm of Albert Shirray, three and three-quarter miles north of Ex- eter and a mile west and is used for weekly Sunclay get-to-gethers. The local members have been at- tending cycle rallies this spring in Kitchener, London, Sarnia, Pe- trona, Pickering and Welland. An obstacle course is being con- structed 2 miles north of Varna on a 500 acre property that the local club will be given courtesy use, fim Mair of Centralia is pre- sident of the newly formed group and fellow CFB members Pat Hope and Dave Haight are handl- ing the secretary and vice-pre- sident duties, respectively. Bruce Shirray of Hensall is the treasurer and Bob Middleton is in charge of public relations. A perfect day greeted enthusi- asts Sunday at the Ron Swartz farm, Centralia, when 51 horses took part in a full afternoon of western games. High point winner in the senior division was Thor Michaelsen, Ilderton, taking home a purse of $90 on his horse ""Flash". Craig Black on ,,Skippy Sis", owned by Bill Sims of Exeter, captured the junior division. Mt. Carmel Arnold Paisley, Ilderton, was MC for the day, assisted by Bob Sharp, Ed Brady, Exeter, opened the show to a large crowd. Ent- ries came from St. Marys, Dor- chester, London, Ilderton, Mt. Elgin, Strathroy, Woodham, Granton, Kerwood as well as the local area. The event was sponsored by the Dixie Trail Riders Ron Swartz, Jack Parsons and Lloyd Mousseau. She returned. Sun- day to her home in Edmonton. Mr. Murray Abbott returned to his home Saturday after visit- ing for a couple of weeks with his son, Mr. & Mrs. W. Abbott and family in Niagara Falls and his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Maguire anti family in Scotland. Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Lightfoot, Sharon and Mr. pat Soldan at- tended the Lightfoot-Schade wed- ding in the Zurich Evangelical Church Saturday. Sharon was a bridesmaid and Pat was an usher at the wedding. Mr. & Mrs. Ray Shoebottom and family accompanied by Jack Ferguson of Lobo attended a wedding reception for Mr. & Mrs. Ken Wilson in Wardsville Saturday evening. Miss Wilda Pollock of Kitch- ener was a weekend visitor with her sister, Mrs. Lorne Hicks. Visitors with Mrs. Fred Harri- son were Mrs. Don Dixon and family of Hensall for the weekend and Mr. & Mrs. Jack Smith of Woodham Sunday. Mr. & Mrs. Ray Shoebottom and family, Mr. Jack Ferguson, Lobo, and Miss Mary Korevaar of Lucan attended theShoebottom family reunion at Springbank Park Sunday. Miss Nora Hall left last week by train for a three week vaca- tion in Vancouver B.C. Mr. & Mrs. Patrick Sullivan Sr. visited with Mr. & Mrs. Jack Pearson and family of Byron. Mrs. Catherine Morrissey spent Sunday in Chatham with Mrs. Andy Morrissey and her family. Plans are being made for the annual ham supper and enter- tainment sponsored by the par- ishioners of Mt. Carmel parish on July 3. Miss Margaret and Theresa Carey RN of London spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Hubert Carey. Texas speed and action, Mi- chaelsen, Max Albright, Hey- wood, Jim Paisley; stake race, Preszcator tops winners Wilmer Preszcator was the big winner at the Open Horse Show sponsored by the Exeter Saddle Club on June 10 on their property west of Exeter. Mem- bers competed in nine different classes under the watchful eye of Judge Brian Hill. Preszcator took the top award in Western Riding, Cloverleaf Barrel Race, Trail Class and Stock horse class and finished in second spot in Pole Bending. Lloyd Schwartzentruber was best in the flag race and pick-up race and was in the top three in several other events, riding a horse owned by Bob Denomme.
