Win 4-H awards Eleanor Walker and Kathryn Adams were two local girls, who won awards at the Arva 4-H Club Achievement Day, held in Med- way HS Saturday. Eleanor won provincial honors for complet- ing 12 homemaking projects and Kathryn won county honors. Local Club leaders included Mrs. Florence Metters, Mrs. R. Noble, Mrs. Wilmer Scott and Mrs. Norman Hardy. Mrs. Mary Eagle and Mrs. Lil- lian Payne of England are making an extended visit with Mrs. Frank Hardy and other relatives. Mr. & Mrs. Emerson Hodgins and family of London were Sun- day guests of Mr. & Mrs. Murray Hodgins. Billy Henderson son of Mr. & Mrs. Dwight Henderson, a Free Press delivery boy reached his 41 customers so was one of those treated Saturday to a tour through the Free Press, a free lunch and the movie "The Battle of the Bulge". G. W, Sach of the Lucan United Church and choir attend- ed the evening service of Ailsa Craig United Church Sunday May 22, when the church celebrated Its centennial, Prior to the regular service Mr. Sach and his choir led in the singing of Wesley hymns. The choir also sang an anthem, as did the Brinsley and Ailsa Craig choirs, The guest speaker for this ser- vice was Rev. Ray Hord of Tor- onto. Rev. R, G. Jackson brought greetings from the A ngl ican church and led in the prayers. Rev. Duncan McTavish of Strathroy and Rev. A. W. Gardin- er of London spoke at the re- ception, which followed. FIREWORK DISPLAY An estimated crowd of 2000 attended the firework display, sponsored by the Legion and the Lucan Lions Club, held at the rear of the arena last Monday. Other organizations of the vil- lage assisted with money dona- tions. This year the only music was from records. Mr. J. W. Smith was in charge of the fireworks. One unfortunate accident occurred when a motor exploded, and one man was in- jured by flying steel. TEA AND BAKE SALE The Sr. WA and Evening WA of Holy Trinity Church held a joint tea and bake sale in the Parish Hall Saturday afternoon. Mrs. P. O. King, Mrs. Jack Gilmour and Mrs. E. 0. Lan- caster received at the door and Mrs. Chas. Haggar was in charge of admissions. Mrs, Earl Atkinson, Mrs. Hil- ton Roberts, Mrs. Harvey Hod- gins and Mrs. Jack Murdy pre- sided at the bake table. Mrs. Harold Corbett, Mrs. Harold Coursey and Mrs. Harold Hod- gins, were in charge of the kit- chen, while Mrs. Clarence Has- kett, Mrs. Dwight Henderson, Mrs. Don Ankers and Mrs. Jack Gilmour did the serving, Twelve year old Julie Hender- son, sold 30 tickets and kept very busy carrying out desserts to the various places of business. PERSONALS Mrs. Mary Squire of Lucan and two fellow employees from the Children's Psychiatric Research Institute London attended the an- nual open house of Brant Sana- torium Sunday where the guest speaker Dr. B. Goldberg of Lon- don spoke on Mental Retardation. Mr. Terrence Culbert of Lon- don formerly of Lucan expected to move into a new house he was having built in about a week. Unfortunately it was badly dam- aged by fire Sunday.
