Reduce drownings
by obeying rules
Last year, 27 persons drown-
ed over the VictoriaDay weekend
in Canada. This year, warns the
National Safety League of Can-
ada, that number can be dras-
tically reduced, even eliminated,
if the thousands of people spend-
ing the Victoria Day weekend on,
in or around water, obey the
simple, sensible rules of safety.
NSL urges boat owners to make
certain their boats are in safe
condition and equipped with ser-
viceable, government-approved
life jackets, one for each oc-
cupant. Children and non-swim-
mers in boats should wear life
jackets at all times.
Overloading the League cau-
tions, is one of the major causes
of boating tragedies. Keep a con-
stant watch on children near
water; a moment's inattention
could spell disaster.
Play it safe, the League urges;
heed all safety rules.
