McFarlane. The president, Mrs. P. O. King, led in the worship service, It was reported $27.10 was the amount handed in for the thank offering, $10 was donated to the Deanery Appeal, ArrangementS were made for the joint tea and bake sale with the Evening Branch, to be held in the Parish Hall, May 28. Mrs. Hilton Roberts gave a reading on "The Bible -- its Ilis- tory and Place in the World" and Mrs, Harold Hodgins read an article used at the WA Annual and "A Parable for Mothers" for Mother's Day. Mrs, H, D. Ankers and Mrs. Earl Atkinson had charge of refreshments. EVENING AUXILIARY President, Mrs. Jack Gilmour was hostess for the Evening Aux- iliary last Wednesday and was assisted with the lunch by Mrs. Pat Crudge. Mrs. Harold Hodgins repeated her papers given to the Sr. WA in the afternoon. Most of the business session was spent in finalizing the joint tea and bake sale. SYNOD Rev. E. 0. Lancaster attend- ed the three day Synod meetings in London last week and Mrs. P. 0. King and Mrs. T. A. Hodgins, as delegates, attended part of the sessions Monday and Tuesday. United At a Mother's day service at 11 am a choir of mothers and daughters led in the music and sang an anthem. Rev. G. W. Sach took as his text "Don't Walk Alone". Gayle Marion Lewis, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Lewis and Darrel Wesley Mur- ray, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Kennedy, were baptized. OFFICIAL OPENING Rev. D. Graham Tipple will be the guest speaker at the of- ficial opening of the new ad- dition, Sunday May 15. CGIT GRADUATION At a county-wide CGIT gradua- tion ceremony held in Trinity UC London Sunday, three Lucan girls, Roberta Cochrane, Daisy Cobleigh and Marilyn Smith re- ceived certificates and corsages. Others from Lucan who attend- ed were, Leader, Mrs. Murray Hodgins, Mrs. M. Cobleigh, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Smith and daughter pat, Mrs. Wm. Coch- rane and daughter, Marie. A reception and refreshments followed the ceremony. Pentecostal Holiness Dexter Eugene Gardiner, son of Mr. and Mrs, Don Gardiner, was dedicated at the 11 o'clock ser- vice by the pastor, Rev. John. Sexton. Explorers make place cards Last Monday eve., 36 Lucan - C 1 a nd eboy e Explorers, three counsellors, and one visitor, were present in the U. C. school room for the 18th Expedition. MosL of the evening was spent in the making of place cards and the coloring of serviettes for the mother & daughter banquet, May 20. Mrs Mohr told a story. Brenda and Linda Hodgins were in charge of the worship service. Medway group plays in Toronto Friday night Medway "16" and Band presented a music night at the school for parents and friends before leaving for Tor- onto at 1 pm Saturday to take part in a music night at Forest Hill Collegiate. This was followed by a party at the school. The stu- dents were billeted overnight with Forest Hill students and taken on tours of two Jewish Synagogues before leaving for London Sunday. Barrett bird wins first race The Lucan Homing Pigeon Club held the initial race of the 1966 old bird season from Kitchener Saturday and the results tallied at the home of Mrs. Frank Hardy. An organization meetingfollowed the race and it was decided the club will again fly its schedule with the Southwestern Ontario Federation of Racing Pigeon Clubs. The schedule starts at Georgetown next week. The weather for the race Sat- urday was clear and returns were good. Winners were first, C. Barrett; second, C. Hardy; third, N. Hardy and son; fourth, C. Barrett and fifth, Mr. Culbert and son. The winning time was 938.9 yards per minute. GREENWAY Mrs. Gilbert Beecroft, Bel- grave, president of Huron Pres- byterial UCW, was guest speaker at the Greenway UCW meeting with guests from Grand Bend UCW and Centralia UCW attend- ing. Mrs. Beecroft's topic was "The Soldier in the Front Line". She stressed that "We in our work have just as much respon- sibility of revealing God's Love to others as those on the mission field." Mrs. L. Curts and Mrs. K. Rock were in charge of the wor- ship and study book. A quartet of Greenway UCW ladies sang. President Mrs. Carmen Wood- burn conducted the business when the date was set for Greenway UC strawberry supper for June 24. A social hour closed the meeting. MRS. ROBERT POLLOCK Mrs. Robert Pollock, 83, pass- ed away at her late residence in Stephen Township Friday April 29. She was the former, Maria Eagleson, and was born August 1, 1882 in Stephen Township. She was the last member of a family of twelve. She was a member of Corbett Presbyterian Church, where she was organist for a number of years. After church union, she was a member of GreenwayUnit- ed Church. In her quiet cheerful way, she made many friends both near and far. In December 1918 she married Robert Pollock, and until the time of her death lived on their farm just east of Greenway.Sur- viving are her husband and a number of neices and nephews. Funeral service was conduct- ed by Rev. G. E. Morrow at the M Box & Son funeral home in Parkhill Monday, May 2. Inter- ment was in Grand Bend cemet- ery. Pallbearers were nephews, Lisle Woodburn, Ray Eagleson, Emerson Woodburn, Selbourne English, Cecil Smithers and Car - man Woodburn. PERSONALS Church service in the United Church next Sunday will be at 9:45 am with Sunday School fol- lowing. Mr. & Mrs. Wagner of Eddie Mills spent a few days recently with Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Woodburn and son. Miss Lillian Ulens of Windsor spent the weekend at her home. Mr. & Mrs. Frank Leeder and family of Brampton spent the weekend with Mrs. Ed Bullock, Mr. & Mrs. Stuart Bullock and family, The Berean Bible Class of the United Church are planning on Making their visit to Strathmere Lodge Tuesday evening May 17, leaving the church at 7:15 Pm. Mr. & Mrs. Bruce Steeper visited Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Louis Schilbe and family of Zur- ich, Mr. & Mrs, Elton Curts, Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Curts, Mr. Manuel Curts and Miss Evelyn Curts and Mr. & Mrs. Ervin Eggert attended the funeral of their cousin, Mrs. Fred Presz- cater at Exeter last Tuesday, Mrs. Paul Eagleson visited Sunday with relatives in Sarnia. Mr. & Mrs. Bruce Hutchinson and family moved to Parkhill last week. Mrs. John Steeper, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. June Hyder and Teresa in Lon- don, spent the weekend at her home. Mr. Hugill of Zurich has built silos for Mr. Earl Steeper, Mr. Fred Bullock and Mr. Earl Hod- gins. Mr. Wilbur Lovie met with an accident Saturday evening when he was hit by a car from London. He was taken to London for x-rays but luckily no bones were broken but his truck was badly wrecked. Family Day service was held in the United Church Sunday when the minister, Rev. Morrow, was assisted in the service by Mr. Earl Steeper, Mr. Manuel Curts, Miss Carol Brown and Lawrence Brown. There was a mothers' choir. Mr. & Mrs. Barry Ravelle and family of East Williams visited Saturday evening with Mr.& Mrs. Stuart Bullock and family and Mrs. Ed Bullock. Mr. & Mrs. Jack Southcott and family of Toronto spent the week- end with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Harold McDonald. Miss Salvona Peters, who has spent some time with Mr. & Mrs. Earl Steeper and family, returned to her home in London last week. By MRS. W. FAMILY DAY SERVICE A Christian Family Day and baptism service was held at I3rinsley United Church Sunday, May 8, when Shelley Ann Simp- son, daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Bill Simpson of Ailsa Craig, was baptized by the Rev. John Davies, Mr. Earl Morley, represented on behalf of the session. Mrs. 13111 Fenton took the lead- ing role in the Family Day ser- vice with the story given by Kathy Hodgson. A junior choir under the direction of Mrs. Jack Tre- vithick and Mr. Doug Lewis, or- ganist, assisted with the service, A dialogue sermon was capably given by Carol Robinson and Jacqueline Lewis. THEME WAS MOTHER The Brinsley UCW met in the church with Group 2 leader, Mrs, Pickering opening the meeting with the theme on "Mother". She also presented a chapter from the study boa on Brazil, A poem "Somebody's Mother" was given by Mrs. Earl Lewis and a reading by Mrs, Earl Mor- ley. Mrs. Jack Trevithick favor- ed with a piano instrumental. President Mrs, Jack Hodgson conducted the business. Mrs. Fraser Dixon, Mrs, K. Pickering and Mrs. Mac Allison were ap- pointed to assist at the Regional at Leiury May 11. Roll call was answered by 12 members.
