The first part of the meeting Was given over to discussing the new recipe book and to the Collecting of recipe sheets. This was followed by along discussion on the chicken barbecue to be held at the arena Wed. June 29 in lieu of the annual strawberry supper. WA ANNUAL The 79th annual meeting of the Huron Diocesan Board of the Woman's Auxiliary was held in St. Paul's Cathedral, Londonlast Monday and Tuesday. Mrs. A. C. Calder, formerly of Lucan, intro- duced Mrs. H. G. Watts of Tor- onto, Dominion WA vice presi- dent, who outlined the history of the WA. Lucan members, who attended, were Rev. and Mrs. E. 0. Lan- caster, Mrs. Frank Hardy, Mrs. P. 0. King, Mrs. Harold Hod- gins, Mrs. Wes Atkinson and Mrs. Don Ankers. Joint CGIT group have fun meeting The Lucan-Clandeboye CGIT held a fun meeting in the UC schoolroom last Tuesday even- ing, which began with three games led by the two leaders. It was announced the Bunny Bundle collection amounted to $9.50 and had been sent in to headquarters. Leader Danna Culbert gave a report of the planning committee for the mother and daughter ban- quet to be held in the school- room, May 20. The sum of $15 was voted for the Dedication Commission, Sunday. A work meeting was announced for 1:30 pm Saturday, April 23 to make articles to sell at the May Day Tea, May 7 and also to make favors for the mother and daugh- ter banquet. All the girls present placed orders for the Oct.-Nov. girls' copy of "The Torch". Miss Barbara Cunningham of St. James Anglican Church, Clan- deboye led in an enjoyable folk singing, Nancy Park and Wendy Cron- kite led in the worship service, the theme of which was "Guid- ance". Prior to his moving to Ayr, Constable A. E. Cowan was guest of honor at a stag party sponsor- ed by the OPP and held in the Lucan Legion Hall last Wednes- day, Guests numbering 35, included Chief C, H. MacKenzie, Exeter, members of Lucan Council, Lu- can businessmen and Constable Don Pettigrew and friends of Thedford, who provided the mu- sic. Cards and a smorgasbord were enjoyed. During the evening Constable Cowan was presented with a desk set with Constable Fred Suter making the presenta- tion. Lions club hear talk of Nigeria Dr. Archie Currie of Parkhill was the guest speaker at the Lions Club meeting in the Anglican Church basement, last Monday night. Dr, Currie spoke on Ni- geria. The coming convention in May, in London, was discussed. Lion Elmer Mosurinjohn showed pic- ture of floats with Lion Clare Stanley as commentator, in the hope they would assist the club with their float. President Bill Allen and Lion Harold Butler will be in charge of the April dance. Miss Lina Abbott's group of the Ladies' Guild catered for the dinner. Evening party for homecomers Thursday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Stanley, entertain- ed in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Revington Stanley of Poplar Hill and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hodgson of Mindemoya, who spent the winter in Florida. Other guests included Mr. and Mrs. IvanStan- ley, Mr. and Mrs. EmersonStan- ley, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Daley, Mr. and Mrs. Sheridan Reving- ton and Mr. and Mrs. George Adams. The evening was spent in pro- gressive euchre with high score prizes going to Mrs. Ivan Stan- ley and Mr. Sheridan Revington; lone hand prizes to Mrs. Rev- ington Stanley and Mrs. Ivan Stanley and low score prizes to Mrs. Otto Daley and Mr. Joe Hodgson. Mrs. Jack Sprowl returned to her Main Street home last week after spending the winter in Okla- homa with her daughter, Mrs Walter Rice at Oklahoma City and her niece at Chickasha. Mrs Sprowl was born in Lucan, daughter of the late John and Mrs Howard and spent her married life here except for the eight winters she has spent in Okla- homa. Prior to returning to Lucan she celebrated her 82nd birthday. She is enjoying good health and able to carry on alone. UC couples club decorate center Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ross, Mr. and Mrs. George Carpenter and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Lewis, were in charge of the United Church Couples Club meeting last Wed. evening which began with a work meeting, decorating the Com- munity Centre for the Friday night dance. When completed, the group re- turned to the schoolroom for re- freshments and a short business meeting. A splendid crowd at- tended the dance and social even- ing at the Community Centre Fri- day. The proceeds will go towards the building fund. PERSONALS Mrs. Rufus Thompson and Mrs. Keith McComb visited Mr. & Mrs. Sam Schults of Kitchener, last Wednesday. Mr. Ward Hodgins, second year student at Guelph University, has secured summer employment with HygradeC o nt a iner s Ltd., London. Mr. & Mrs. Alex Young, who went by train twelve days ago.to visit their son Jack and family at Vancouver flew home this week. Mr. Spencer A. Stanley of Tor- onto, who spent the winter in Mexico, was a Tuesday over- night guest with his niece, Mrs. Russell Goddard and family of Water St. Mrs. Horatio Simpson was just home from St. Joseph's Hospital a ,few days, following an opera- tion, when Mr. Simpson suffered a heart attack and was taken to the same hospital Thursday, by am- bulance. -- Please turn to page 18 LUCAN MERCHANTS PRESENT A BAZAAR OF VALUES MAIN ST.
