Because of the low price.
Either new or used.
Of course, even our low price is still susceptible to
sales-tax. But you get a milder case of it
The same with the cost of running a Volkswagen.
When you get around 38 miles to the gallon, you
don't spend much money on gas. Or on gos soles-tax.
When you average 35,000 to 40,000 miles on one
set of tires, your tire soles-tax is hardly more than
a pin-prick.
And you're immune to anti-freeze soles-tax. The
It saves you
from an
overdose of
sales tax.
Volkswagen engine is air-cooled. No radiator.
Then there's oil. Hardly ever needs ony between
regular changes. And when you do change it, you
buy fewer pints of it than with a conventional car.
Which means you pay less money, And less sales-tax.
The same with ports. If you dent a fender, you don't
have to replace half the body. Just the fender. Plus
peanuts for sales-tax.
So when you own a VW you don't get
rid of sales-taxes altogether. You just get
them in much smaller doses.
