Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Gittus and family of Rochester, Minnesota, have returned home after a week's vacation spent with the former's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Tom Gittus, Dr. W. R. (Janet) Wren. Mr and Mrs Bill Knights of the interesting and informative demonstrations by Miss Linda McMaster, one of Ontario Hy- dro's economists. Miss McMas- ter demonstrated and explained the many features of a variety of electrical appliances includ- ing washers, ranges and refrig- erators. 'Electric home heating, and home lighting was also fea- tured on the program. A complete oven meal was cooked and other food items were prepared using portable appli- ances similar to those which may be found 'in the average kitchen. Attractive door prizes were drawn for including the food prepared by the home econ- omist donated by local merchants and Hensall Public Utilities Com- mission. The affair was largely attended. Legion ladies plan activities The Legion Ladies' Auxiliary met in the Legion Hall Tuesday evening, with president Mrs. Harold Campbell in the chair. The meeting was informed that the recent Red Cross canvass by members realized $229.30. Plans were laid for the Penny Sale in May, a social evening Friday April 22. Two teams will participate in a bowling tourna- ment at Seaforth May 3. The Auxiliary will cater for a bowling banquet May 11, and at the May meeting cancer films will be shown. Mrs Grant Bisback won the mystery prize and Mr W.H. Bell, the guessing prize. Bingo w a s played and lunch served. Several showers for local bride Several showers have been held for Mrs Michael Welch, the for- mer Jean Hyde, bride of the month. Hostesses have been Mrs John Pearson and Mrs Bruce Eaton in her home for a kitchen shower from the ladies of Bayfield Bap- tist Church, a miscellaneous shower given by Mrs Bill Mc- Lachlan and Mrs Ernest Talbot in the latter's home by the com- munity, the 4-H club presented her with bedroom lamps at the home of Mrs W,J.F. Bell. In London a miscellaneous shower was given in the home of Mrs Beverly Black assisted by Miss Lillian Scobbie and Mrs Margaret Schnurr. Showers were also given by the congregation of Kensall Baptist Church and the staff of nurses with whom she works. Her sisters, Mrs Evelyn Yacknovets and Miss Marjorie Hyde, gave her a personal shower in Oshawa at the home of Mrs Yacknovets. Blenheim spent Easter week end with Mr and Mrs Harry Snell. Stewart and Jane returned home with them after spending two weeks with Mr and Mrs Snell. Charles Mickle, Hamilton, is spending his Easter vacation with his parents, Mr a id Mrs Laird Mickle and Ann. Celebrating the Resurrection of Christ many attended Easter ser- vices in the local churches Sunday last with appropriate messages and special Easter music, At St. Paul's. Anglican Church Holy Communion was adminis- tered, Rev. J. P. Guidon gave the message, the choir sang an anthem "Easter Dawn", under 1121610.0/MMOMMISMOOX Ogercealeed John Passmore Mr, John Passmure, 87, o Exeter, formerly of Hensall, a retired Hydro superintendent, passed away Saturday, April 9 in South Huron Hospital, Exeter, following a lengthy illness. He came to Hensall in 1910, where he operated an electrical business as well as being the hydro superintendent, The late Mr. Passmore took an active part in the activities of the village, was a member of Hensel]. United Church and member of IOOF Hensall Lodge 223. He is survived by three sons, Kenneth, Aylmer; Rev Robert, Owen Sound; John, Delhi; two daughters, Mrs. William (Zetta) McLean; Hamilton; Mrs, Lorne (Susan) Elder, Hamilton; one sister, Mrs. Gilbert Duncan, Exeter; nineteen grandchildren and four great - grandchildren. Mrs. Passmore predeceased him in 1959. He was also predeceased by three sons, Gerald, Carl and Albert. Public funeral services were held Monday, April 11 from Bon- thron Funeral Home, Hensall, conducted by Rev. H. F. Currie. Interment was in Exeter ceme- tery. Pallbearers were Robert Cann, Melvin Gardiner, Ken Duncan, Robert Mayer, Gilbert Johns and Lorne Passmore. The choir ren- dered an anthem under direction of Mrs, Beatrice Hess, Easter lilies were in memory of the late Gerald Bell, placed by his wife and family and his parents. Hensall United Church Rev, Howard F. Currie occupied his Own pulpit delivering an appro- priate message, Special Easter anthems were sung by the senior and junior choirs, with Mrs John Turkheim at the church organ. At the sunrise service held at 7 am Doug Currie, president of the Hi - C Youth Fellowship, con- ducted the service. A quartette composed of Joyce Flynn, Ann Mickle, Robert McNaughton and Ted Mock, sand, and Joyce Flynn sang a solo. Miss Greta Lammie presided at the organ console. At the conclusion of the service breakfast was served in Fellow- ship Hall. District deputy visits Rebeka s Noble Grand Mrs George Clif- ton presided for the meeting of Amber Rebekah Lodge Wednes- day evening, April 6, when Dis., trict Deputy President Mrs Edna Caldwell paid her official visit speaking briefly of her year's Work which she enjoyed very Much. She was presented with a corsage. Plans were made for the Rebekah Lodge District dinner for past presidents of District 23, to be held Wednesday after- noon, April 13, in the Lodge Hall. Donations were made towards sending a student to the United Nations in June of this year, and to the President's project. Mrs. Clarence Volland was ap- pointed a representative to attend Grand Lodge Assembly in Toronto in June this year. Mystery prize was won by Mrs Ross Richard- son. Compounds of silver are very poisonous. Potted Easter lilies decorated Bayfield Baptist Church for the ceremony uniting in marriage Jean Helen Dorine Hyde RN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Hyde, Kippen, and Charles Mi- chael Welch, nephew of Mr. and Mrs. James Bogart, Iona Station, Saturday, April 9 at 1 o'clock. Rev. Ivor Bodenham, Exeter, officiated assisted by Rev. Bruce Eaton of Bayfield. Rev. Bruce Schnurr, Dorchester, played the wedding music and accompanied the soloist, Gordon Hamilton, London, who sang perfect Love and the dedication prayer Take My Life. During the signing of the register he sang "The Love of God". Given in marriage by her fath- er the bride wore a floor length gown of organza over taffeta with lilypoint sleeves and scal- loped neckline of lace embroid- ered with seed pearls and crys- tals. Her veil of cloud white tulle illusion in scalloped tiers was held by a crown of seed pearls and crystals. She carried a bou- quet of red roses and stephanotis. The bride's sister, Mrs. Lou- ise Stephenson, Malton, was matron of honor and another sister, Mrs. Evelyn Yacknovets, Oshawa was bridesmaid and Miss Karen Bogart, Iona Station, was junior bridesmaid. Her attend- ants chose floor-length gowns of dawn pink satapeau with overlay of white Venice lace fashioned with tiny sleeves, fitted bodices and envelope shaped skirts. They carried bouquets of red roses and ferns. Harry Wilson, Waterloo, was best man and ushers were Bob Lawrence of Waterloo and Doug Hyde, brother of the bride. A reception was held at the Dominion Hotel, Zurich where the bride's mother received guests in a teal blue suit with pink accessories. She was as- sisted by the groom's aunt wear- ing a blue suit with matching hat. For travelling to points south the bride donned a blue boucle sheath, matching coat, blue flow- ered hat, black accessories and orchid corsage. The couple will reside in Lon- don. Both bride and groom are graduates of London College of Bible and Missions. PEE WEE HOCKEY Hensall Pee Wees defeated Ripley by a score of 6-2 at the Pee Wee Tournament at Young Canada Hockey week in Goderich Monday morning but lost to Bel- mont 3-2 in the evening game. In an exhibition game at Sea- forth Wednesday Hensall and Sea- forth Pee Wees tied at 4-4.
