This barrier is designed to evalu- ate the strength of the lamprey spawning run prior to stream treatment in order that the ef- fectiveness of treatment may be determined in subsequent years. The mechanics involved in oper- ating the weir consist of laying electrodes across the river that are connected to an electric gen- erator. When in use the current running across the river sets up an impenetrable electric field which kills the lamprey. Since other spring spawning fish, in particular the Rainbcw Trout, use the Hayfield River we can expect that minimal numbers of "Spring Sing" at public school By MRS. WM. Wein with Mrs. Mary Moffatt as pianist. Over 500 pupils in the school took part in group choruses ac- cording to their grade showing the progression in music from kindergarten to Grade 8. Special features were num- bers by the Exeter Public School Glee Club of 35 voices; rounds by Grades 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 students, also three selections by Grade 7 on recorders to the accompaniment of the auto harp played by Robert Dobbs. Over 200 attended the produc- tion in the afternoon and over 300 in the evening.
