The body of 86-year-old Arthur
Coates, who had been missing
since January 27 was found Fri-
day by a highway crew, in a gully
about 150 feet from Highway 4
on the farm formerly owned by
the late Ernie Guest, Concession
16, London Township.
Mr. Coates was last seen Jan-
uary 27 by his landlady Mrs. Don-
ald Squire, when he left the house
about 6:30 am during a heavy snow
storm. Although a search was
made at the time, the depth of
snow prevented the finding of the
body, some 300 yards from the
house.
Mr. Coates came from England
as a young man and settled in
Petrolia where he worked for
the Canadian Oil Co. and also on
the farms of Mr. Ike Millar and
Eldon Freer. Later he worked
for many farmers in the Lucan
and Clandeboye district. He has
lived on the farm of Mr. Squire

New arena equipment
The Lucan arena now has a Schomburg ice shaver which will refinish the ice surface in about eight
minutes. Ray Dobroski, arena manager is shown here operating the machine which is at the arena
for a one month trial period. The machine arrived last Tuesday and since that time the ice surface has
been greatly improved. About one quarter of an inch of ice has been shaved off making the ice about
one inch thick which is considered by the manager to be the optimum. (T-A photo)
