NOTICE To Customers Of HAY MUNICIPAL TELEPHONE SYSTEM The Subscribers of the Township of Hay Municipal Tele- phone System are aware of the successful conversion of the Grand Bend and Zurich exchanges to dial operation and the subsequent improvement of service at both those exchanges. Continuing on the System's Improvement Program, subscriber approval was received at the 1965 Annual Meeting to convert Dashwood exchange to dial operation. The cost of this project required the issue of debentures, for capital, which it is in- tended to repay over a 20-year period. In order to comply with requirements it is necessary to establish and have approved rates, which will become effective at date of Conversion of Dashwood exchange to dial operation, which is anticipated to be late 1966. The rates below will become effective only at cut-over date and include extended Area Service to Exeter exchange. This means that after conversion there will be no toll charge to Exeter nor will Exeter residents pay a toll charge on their calls to Dashwood. This same free service will continue to exist to and from Grand Bend and Zurich exchange with no limit on the number of such free calls. The rates below for which we apply are for the Dashwood exchange only and free service to Exeter is to and from the Dashwood exchange only. Application has been made to the Ontario Telephone Service Commission for authority to make the following charges for the telephone service in the Dashwood Exchange area as at conversion of this exchange to dial operation. EXCHANGE RATES Individual line Two-Party line Multi-Party line (10 or less) Business Residence Subscriber Renter $6.55 $7.05 per month 3.40 3.90 per month Business Residence 5.15 5.65 per month 2.55 3.05 per month Business Residence 4.25 per month 2.95 per month The above rates for individual and two-party line service will apply only within the Base Rate Area, which is defined as being within the limits of the Police Village of Dashwood. If individual or two-party line service is required beyond the above limits there will be an additional charge for extra mileage of forty-five cents a month for each 1/4 mile or fraction thereof for an individual line and twenty-five cents a month for each 1/4 mile or fraction thereof for each party on a two-party line. New subscribers will be required to pay subscriber's rates plus $1.50 per month for 10 years, at which time they will become paid up subscribers. Rates for supplementary service such as extension tele- phones and bells, connection and moving telephones, etc., re- main unchanged. This application will be heard before the Commission at its next regular meeting in Toronto. Any representations to be made to the Commission with respect to this application should, therefore, be submitted on or before March 18th, 1966, and addressed to the Chairman, Ontario Telephone Service Com- mission, 1901 Yonge Street, Toronto 7, Ontario. If you desire any further information in reference to the need for increasing the telephones rates, you may apply to the undersigned either personally, by telephone, or by letter. W. C. Good work Dennis! Local minister is transferred Rev Wallace Stephenson, mini- ster of Emmanuel BaptistChurch for the past three and a half years, has resigned and leaves this week to take up his duties at Malton Baptist Church. Sunday evening in his farewell message Mr. Stephensoi, said the membership of the church had tripled in the three and a half A large visitor In Greek mythology, the Argus was a "many eyed monster". The 148 ton aircraft visited RCAF Station Centralia and allowed the service personnel to examine its many "eyes", or anti-submarine detection systems. RCAF Argus aircraft shows capabilities at Centralia A "many eyed monster" was reported to be seen last week at RCAF Station Centralia. Mari- time Command's giant aircraft, the Argus, paid a special visit to the local airbase and put on a demonstration of its flying capa- bilities before its departure. While at Centralia, staff and stu- dents on course were given a tour of the aircraft and the fifteen man crew explained their particular jobs. Only six landings a year are allowed at Station Centralia be- cause the weight of the Argus would have an adverse effect on the runway structure. Mr. RL Mrs. Paul Hajas and Ronnie were guests of their daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Gilkes, Windsor, last weekend. Mr. & Mrs. Gerry Desjardine of Toronto visited over the week- end with Mr. & Mrs. Hubert Desjardine. Mr. John Morrissey was a patient at the Sholdice Hospital in Toronto this week. Mrs. Mor- rissey motored there Sunday and John returned home with her. Mrs. Leonard Dietrich and young son arrived home from hospital this past week. Mrs. Mary Regan, London, has returned home after spending some time with Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Regan and family, Mrs. Catherine Morrissey was a guest at her grandson's wed- ding last Saturday in Zurich and returned to London to visit with Mr. & Mrs. Benny Morrissey. Mr. & Mrs. Vincent Thompson attended their uncle's funeral, Mr. Leo Thompson, held from St. Patrick's Church, London, Saturday, Mrs. Wm. Patterson and girls have returned home by plane to Churchill after a pleasant visit with her father, Joseph Dietrich and brother Paul. It is interesting to note that the Argais aircraft is a redesigned Bristol Britannia. Canadian Air- craft of Montreal specifically designed the Argus for long pe- riods of ocean patrol duty while accommodating the latest anti- submarine detection equipment. It also has the capability for con- voy, search and rescue opera- tions and emergency troop trans- port. The Argus can carry over 7000 gallons of aviation fuel which can sustain the aircraft for over 24 hours and still allow fuel for a diversionary flight. It has a 143 foot wing span, and the total length from nose to "tail sting- er" of 128 feet. The tail fin stands over 38 feet, more than a three storey building. The Argus is powered by four turbo compound radial engines which develop 3700 horse power each. In comparison, one engine of the Argus develops as much 11111111111111110111111111111111111111 llllllllllllll 111111111111111 power as the four engines used to propel the famous World War 11 Lancaster Bomber. The electrical system is cap- able of generating enough power to supply 60 homes, while its cabin and wing heater can pro- vide heat for approximately 30 homes. The 70 million candle power search light can bath a submarine in revealing silhouette at two miles. Four RCAF Argus Aircraft of Canada's Maritime Command de- ployed Monday to Gibraltar for a routine NATO sea and air tactical exercise called Sailors' Pride. In addition to the Canadian anti- submarine aircraft, maritime forces from The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and the United Kingdom are taking part. They assembled in Gibraltar Monday. French maritime forces also are co-operating in the tactical phase under the French commander-in- chief for Atlantic. MORE CAR FOR YOUR MONEY ,63 Thursday, Feb. 24, our se- nior girls basketball team trav- elled to Stratford Northwestern for their first play-off games. The girls won both games played. In the first game against Sea- forth, SHDHS won 26-20 and in the second game with St. Marys our girls won 31-30. With these wins SHDHS senior girls have won the Huron-Perth champion- ship. Our girls will now go on to WOSSA, Tuesday, March 1, there was a basketball game between the male teachers and the male Grade 13 students who aren't on a bas- ketball team. This game was quite enjoyable. The result was, unfortunately, 45-23 for the Teachers! Oh well, we had to let the teachers win eventually! The semi-finals for posture queens in Grade 9 and Grade 10 were held at SHDHS, Monday, Feb. 28. The Grade 9 winner was Barb Sweitzer. Diane Smith was second. The Grade 10 winner was Helen Jory. After the queens for Grades 11, 12, 13 have been chosen, these winners will then compete in the final competi- tion for Posture Queen of SHDHS for 1966. The Parents' nights which were held Thursday, Feb. 24 and Tues- day March 1 were a great suc- cess as many interested parents turned out.
