and refreshments were served
by Lois Hodgins, Dale Froats,
Sandra Abbott and Linda Smith.
The annual public sp eak in g
contest, sponsored by the Lucan
Branch of the Royal Canadian
Legion, was held in the Legion
Hall Friday night, with 16 Grade
4 to 6 contestants and six Grade
7 and 8 pupils from Lucan, Bid-
dulph Centre and St. Patrick's
schools competing. Past presi-
dent J. W. Smith was MC for
the evening.
The three London judges in-
cluded, Messrs Fred McEwen,
a lawyer, Bill Savage, a school

The Lucan IOOF Friday night
held a social evening in the Shil-
lelagh basement. The guest
speaker was Miss Beverley Dy-
mond, who gave an illustrated
talk on the United Nations.
Following her talk, a 10-table
progressive euchre was held with
prizes for high score going to
Mrs. Clarence Carter and Mr.
Gerald Isaac, lone hand prize to
Mrs. Harold Armitage and low
score prizes to Mrs. Arnold
Blake and Mr. Max Bilyea.
The evening closed with a hot
turkey luncheon catered to by the
Shillelagh staff.

The Ladies Guild meeting took
the form of a quilting bee, held
at the home of Mrs. Erwin Scott
last Wednesday afternoon and was
largely attended.
A short business meeting was
held, with the new presidentMrs.
Charles Haggar presiding. She
was assisted in the worship ser-
vice by Miss Lina Abbott. It
was decided to take a group to
Strathmere Lodge, Stra thr o y
Wednesday afternoon, March 9.
After much discussion it was de-
cided to hold an evening bazaar
in September, A tentative date
of September 23 was set.
In lieu of the annual strawberry
supper, June 29, it was voted to
hold a chicken barbecue.
The WA met at the home of
the president, Mrs. Howard Cur-
rie. Mrs. Rufus Thompson led
in the devotions and Mrs. Meine
Eizenga gave a reading.

Mrs. W. W. Garrett of London
last Wednesday honored her
mother, Mrs. Bob Coleman of
George St., Lucan, on the oc-
casion of her 82nd birthday, when
she held a dessert luncheon and
euchre for over 30 relatives, in
her London home.
Mrs. Coleman was showered
with a great number of miscel-
laneous gifts from her many
relatives.
The winners at the euchre
were Mrs. Phin Dinkins, high
score, Mrs. Bob Coleman, lone
hands and Mrs. Whitney Coates,
the low score prize.
Guests were present from Ex-
eter, Lucan, Ailsa Criag,Saints-
bury, St. Thomas and London.
Mrs. M. Hodgins
hosts CGIT meet
Due to no heat at the United
Church, Mrs. Murray Hodgins
had to take her large group of
Lucan-Clandeboye CGIT up to
her home. There she reported
that the sale of chocolates had
been so great that for the second
time the supply was exhausted.
She also reported that the tour
of the London Life would have to
be postponed until the end of
June and that "Crash Landing",
last year's study book was still
lost.
,,An felt work must be hand-
ed in by Feb. 28", she said.
Girls were asked to have
friends and neighbors again save
old nylons for them.
The worship service was taken
by Pat and Grace Smith.
The group was again divided
for the study book, the theme
of which was, "Called to be .
servarits", This was followed by
discussions.
The meeting closed with a
singsong led by both senior and
intermediate leaders.

The Couples.' Club met in the
church schoolroom last Wednes-
day with an attendance of 21.
Mr. and Mrs. Stuart McLellan,
Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Cronkite and
Mr. and Mrs. Don Maguire were
in charge of the meeting and
refreshments.
Mr. and Mrs. Les Greenwood
of Grand Bend entertained with
solos and duet. The snow-ride
party had to be cancelled.

Sunday evening, 21 members of
the Lucan-Clandeboye HiC ans-
wered the roll call. The worship
service was taken by Marilyn
Hearn, Heather FroatsandNancy
Park. After discussion, it was
voted to attend the Middlesex
Lay Conference at Parkhill next

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Has-
kett and eight-year old daughter,
Brenda, have returned h om e,
after a two week's holiday with
Mr. and Mrs. Al Armitt and fam-
ily of North Miami, Florida.
Brenda kept up with all her school
work, which had been outlined by
her teacher, Mrs. Allison and
also attended church not to miss
her League of Loyalty star.
On returning to school WedneS
day She was given the opportunity
of reporting the highlights of her
trip to her schoolmates and of
displaying the "treasures" she
had brought back from sunny
Florida.
