Stanley Tomes assist. Mr. Tomes has been five years at Big Trout Lake, Diocese of Keewatin, NWT as rector at 51. Peter's Church. They now have a parish hall which Is used through the week as a school. There are about four other points he visits every two or three months. There is a catechist, local leader, who has been train- ed to take services. The flowers on the re-table were given in memory of the late Mr. and Mrs. John L. Simpson by their family. Flowers on the organ were in memory of the late John Whit- more Sr. given by his sons John Jr. and William and families. Following the church service Sunday, Mrs. Emily Tomes en- tertained the family, the Rev. "(Nationality of my ancestors" Was the answer to the roll call. Mrs. Carl Oestricher discussed the motto, “World affairs are our affairs", Take your choice was the topic with Mrs. Becker pre- siding. The panel consisted of Mrs. Ralph Weber, Mrs. Letta Taylor, Mrs. Carl Oestricher and Mrs. Howard Maier. Mem- bers were contestants. Mrs, Syd Baker presided for the business, The 4-H girls were present and Dora Goodale and Theresa Hartman gave a demon- stratioa of choosing materials and Marie Dielman gave an ex- hibit on sleeping garments. The girls had their record books on display and raodelled their sleep- ing garments. Mrs. Eben Weig- and presented gifts to Norma Weigand for obtaining provincial honors and to Sheila Willert, Eleanor Wolfe and Margaret Merner, who has obtained county honors. Mrs. Glen Webb pre- sented the leaders, Mrs. Eben Weigand and Mrs. John Rader and the assistants, Miss Norma Weigand and Mrs. Rudolph Miller gifts for their assistance to the girls. CORN shelled and on the cob WSWS MEETING "The People of God" was the theme for the February meeting of the WSWS of the Evangelical UB church, The spiritual life committee was in charge of the program for which Mrs. B. J. Kellerman acted as chairlady and Mrs. Hugh Boyle presided at the piano. Mu- sical numbers were given by Mrs. Merrill James, Mrs, Lloyd Guenther and Mrs. Gordon Bender accompanied by Mrs. James on the accordion. Bible study on ',The Word with Power" was presented in two parts by Mrs. Mervyn Tie- man, convener of the Spiritual Life committee and Mrs. George Link. The chapters were dis- cussed in each group and later in the group as a whole. President, Mrs. Carl Oes- treicher, conducted the business, It was decided to meet Feb. 15 to quilt and to make bandages for the needy. Two layettes will be made for ((Save the C hildr Fund". World Day of Prayer will be observed Feb. 25 at the Church of God, Grand Bend at 2:00 pm. The sunshine committee is Mrs. Jessie Rader and Mrs. Henry Eagleson. Bunco was played with Mrs. Ross Corbett and Ray Webb, high, and Mrs. Roy Boerner and Don Adams, low. Mr. Ken Baker read an ad- dress and Mr. and Mrs. Morenz were presented with many lovely gifts. The program con- sisted of numbers by the choir and Harry and Bob Horn. Mr. and Mrs. N. Stacey of Mit- chell showed slides on their tour of Trinidad and surrounding areas. PERSONALS Paul and Brian Morgan of St. Marys have spent the past week with their grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Norman Brock. Mrs. Mary Brock is a patient in St. Marys Hospital having fallen at her home. Mr. & Mrs. John Tookey of London were Saturday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Ray Jaques and Steven and Mr. & Mrs. Thom- as Here and family. & Sons Ltd. HFNSALL 262-2527 stroyed the large L-shaped barn on the farm of Mr. Laverne Wal- lace Tuesday night. Mr. & Mrs. Wallace were away from home when the fire started but neigh- bors managed to save most of the stock of cattle and pigs. Hay and grain were a complete loss as well as some machinery. Miss Jane Binning, Mitchell, visited during the weekend with her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. K. McKellar, Robbie Gardiner, son of Mr. & Mrs. Robert Gardiner, is a patient in Seaforth hospital, Mr. & Mrs, Bruce Cleland, Bobby and Pauline and Mrs. Geo- rge Cleland, Listowel were Tues- day evening guests with Mr. & Mrs. John R. Flynn, London attended the Sunday church ser- vice, Mrs. John Brownlee, Jack and FIREMEN'S BANQUET The annual banquet for the Dashwood volunteer fire brigade and their wives was held Wed. Feb. 2 with the village trustees Harold Schroeder, Cliff Salmon, Hugh Boyle and their wives pre- paring and serving the meal. Fire Chief James Hayter pre- sided and urged assistance to centennial projects. Chairman Harold Schroeder also spoke briefly. Euchre was played with Mrs. Bill Masse and Jame s Hayter high and Mrs.EmilBeck- er and Hugh Boyle low. Mrs. Frank Allen was hostess for the WMS meeting when 13 members and one visitor were present. Mrs. Calder McKaig presided. The February edition of the Glad Tidings was used as a basis for the entire program with Mrs. McKaig, Mrs. W. Harper, Mrs. T. Laing, Miss Olive Speare, Mrs. R. Dodds, Mrs. T. L. Scott, Mrs. K. McKellar and Mrs. Mer- vin Dow taking part. Business was conducted by the president Mrs. M. Lamond. It was announced that the World Day of Prayer service will be held in Cromarty church, Feb- ruary 25. The members decided to contribute money instead of clothing for the bale. Highlights of the annual meet- ing of the Stratford Presbyterial were given by those who attended. Lunch was served by the host- ess assisted by Mrs. T. Laing, Mrs. T. L, Scott and Mrs, M. Christie. PERSONALS Mr. & Mrs. Roy Boerner and family of Mio, Michigan were weekend visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Hugh Morenz. Mr. Elgin Adams has returned home from St. Joseph's hospital, London where he underwent sur- gery. Wednesday evening guests with Mr. & Mrs. Ross Love were Mr. & Mrs. Hugh Love of Ex- eter; Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Love of Parkhill and Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Gill of Grand Bend. Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Howe and girls of London were Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Irvin Rader and family. Danny, small son of Mr. & Mrs. Jim Becker, suffered a broken collar bone in a fall at his home. Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Becker and family spent Sunday with the lat- ter's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Ervin Greb, Preston. Mrs. Henry Becker is spending a few days with relatives in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. Fire of unknown origin de- The disappearance of many of Ontario's farm woodlots is di- rectly due to the destruction of young growth by pasturing cattle. Dashwood native dies at Florida Wellington William Maier died suddenly of a heart attack at his winter home in Palm Harbour, Florida, Wednesday, Feb. 2. He was born in Stephen Town- ship May 19, 1899. He married Emily Hayward in 1924 and lived in Detroit several years, where he designed and built perma-log homes, moving to Mio, Mich. in 1941 where he continued his trade. Surviving besides his wife are one daughter Mrs. Roy (Jean) Boerner; two sons, Wm. Jr. and Robert, all of Mio, Mich., one brother George of Detroit. The body rested at the Larrison funeral home until Sunday, Feb. 6. The funeral service took place in Mio Methodist Church. Rev. Fredrick Tim officiated and read two poems "Nature's Wonde r- land" and "Woodlot" in memory of Mr. Maier's love of nature. Pallbearers were nephews, Don and George Maier of Detroit, Ken and George Ellis of Sarnia and Hugh and Roy Morenz of Dashwood.
