TEE MST 01711! We team by special t- elegraph that the Prouder, Hoe. J. 8. McDouald, was elect- ed yesterday by acclamatioe, for Corn- wall. A good commenceneart. XR. DICKSON'S ADDU/18. It is, we suppose, generally known that Mr. Dickson, who has so worthily repre- sented this constituency during the stormy aeasions just ooncluded, does not come for - wad at the present moment of his own accord. Although oertain of re election, like had been left to corsult his own private wishes he would have retired from the noisy arena of public life to the pleas- ant home hewn by his own hands oat of the Canadian wilderness, and would gladly have aatisfied himself with the quiet en- joyments o(" his sin fireside." But it was not to be so. The unanimous voiee of the Reform Association, and of the Counties generally, was that he should still enjoy the honor of representing the Largest con- stituency in tne Province, and he was therefore urgently solicited to accept the responsibility. Ili' response to this anan imens call was that of a true patriot. He wonld'bury his private wishes, leave his farm and family, and to the best of his ability, if re-elected, serve his country. We cannot:help taking ourselves, aad the question will occur to many others, flow many of our public men, if sure of i seat in Parliament, would be willing to forego the honor, and above all, the as dollars a day, attachiog to the position? Thia last action on the part of James Dickson raises him, if such a thing were possible, higher in our estimation than he ever stood before. It is the sentiment of a true lover of his country, and well may the farmers of Huron end Bruoe be proud of the best representative they ever had I Mr. Dickson's Address don not require any lengthened comments from us. 11 1. plain, pointed and frank, and is as free from anything like equivocation as it is direct in its appeal to every lover of good government. A Reformer in priswiple, Mr. D. by his past conduct and in the present Address to the Electors gives all to understand that he will never "go it blind," as the vulgar phrase Mee, for the sake of party alone , but that., on the con- trary, he will continue to support what he thinks is right 'did what he sincerely be- lieves 10 60 for the best interests of the country u a whole. Thie is the great source of his strength, and this it is that regarnmends him to the support of every honest man. Hie pobition on the Repre- sentation Question is as sound as emeaad hie views regarding Militia Organization, Municipal reform, emigration, and the general development of the moans tithe eonatry are beyond Gabble or reproaeh. Up to the present moment, no opposi- tion has been proposed, and it is now .ad- mitted that Mr. Dickson will be elected se *5. 4.; of nomination. But, in case of opposition, hie nuiessone Minds throughout the constituency are ready to work for him witb swill, aad his return is certain. 41.1100-1.--4111M..- TEM POLITICAL SITUATION 01 CANADA (0011101.1JOHD ) 11 1. an opposition' saying Mat sow that every true of hammy is fad* from our Canadian pelitniaas, mad thei every in. portent niaistsslial 'hemp is alibied by • unpritioipind greed Ibr ft m ea - ample which the premmt reemelemelthe le MIMI This is either a ithashe er • grc• fabrication" got .p hr the peepsomf main politioal esniteL Bohm • alma en be etervieted of &pia*, sash a gnat lbw the semieameis Add poi dm, it must le threw, Mak Ant he ia etenie, ned seetiadly, thet in is eurprIllehiliad.
