The annual meeting of the Lu-
can United Church, last Wednes-
day evening, began with a pot
luck supper. The Rev. G, W.
Sach presided and led in the
worship service. MrS. Murray
Hodgins was named secretary for
the meeting. All reports showed
1965 was the best financial year
in the history of the church.
The following are the 1966
officers elected: Elders, Robert
Murray (clerk), Gordon Banting,
District prexy
guest speaker
Roll call for the Women's In-
stitute meeting held at the home
of Mrs. Murray Hodgins Thurs-
day afternoon was answered by
''What do you really think makes
an educated man or woman?"
The guest of honor, District
President Mrs. Calvin Carmi-
chael of Ilderton was welcomed
and spoke briefly.
Named to purchase prizes and
make the necessary arrange-
ments for the next euchre on
January 26 were Mrs. H. B.
Langferd, Mrs. Wes Atkinson,
Mrs. Stewart Park and Mrs.
Frank Jolliffe.
Flannelette purchased for the
making of crib quilts was dis-
played. The sum of $5 was voted
for the UNESCO Coupon Plan 867.
The program, scheduled for Feb.
17 will be held March 17 and the
March prograni will be held in
February.
The Meeting was turned over
to Mrs. Harold Hodgins, convener
of Citizenship and Education, who
spoke briefly on citizenship be-
fore introduting the guest speak-
er, Mrs. Karl O'Neil, who gave
an interesting talk on her 21-
day-trip to Frahce, Germany and
the British Isles. She passed
around many snaps she had taken
while in Europe.
Mrs. H. B. Langford moved
a vote of thanks to Mrs. O'Neil,
Mrs. Carrniehael, Mrs. Hodgins
and the lutieh comenittee,Mrs. P.
0. King, Mrs. J, W. Stnith and
Mrs. Wan Crozier.

Dorchester defeated Lucan 6-1
in Pee Wee hockey action this
week. The lone local goal scorer
was Allan Kraul.
The Bantam game was a thrill-
er from start to finish with the
locale emerging with a 5-4 vic-
tory. Tom Hodgins with 4 goals
and Gord Hardy with a single
supplied the Lucan Scoring. Tan
Hodgins scored the winner in the
last minute of play when he stick
handled through the Dorchester
defence and beat the goaltender
cleanly.
In the final the Lucan Midgets
defeated Dorchester 6-1. Lucan
scorers were Ken Ready and Andy
Hardy with 2 each and singles go-
ing to Larry Leigh and Paul Ko-
pal.
Medway registered their first
victory in league play as they de-
feated Catholic Central 4-1 be-
fore 600 cheering fame.
Medway goalgettere Were Don
Henderson, Brian Parkinson,
Brian llaskett and Gaye Carml-
ehael.
Crusaders' goal scorer was
Howard Green in the firstperied.

Mrs. C. Robb at
cancer meet
Mrs. Cecil Robb, Lucan's re-
presentative to the Cancer So-
ciety, Wednesday January 10 at-
tended a Meeting of the educa-
tional committee of the London
and Middlesex Cancer Society at
Thameswood Ledge. Mrs. Robb
reports that two new films —
previewed and the new paniph-
lett and posters Were on display.

At a dinner and reception in
the Lucan Shillelagh, the bride's
mother received in a two piece
black dress with pink carnation
corsage. She was assisted by the
groom's mother, who chose a
dark brown suit, with yellow
carnation corsage.
For a wedding trip to Northern
Quebec the bride changed to a
three piece wool suit with fur
collar and cuffs and black ac-
cessories.
The couple will make their
home in London.

held Its 99th vestry meeting in
the parish hall last Wednesday
evening, January 19 with a good
attendance, Mrs. Kay Egan was
again named vestry clerk,

Lancaster, presided and pre-
sented his sixth annual report.
Charles Corbett presented the
financial and auditor's reports.
Erwin Scott, propertysupervisor
reported on repairs and altera-
tions, during the year and out-
lined a list of repairs which need-
ed attention this year.

Speaking on the proper organ-
ization of a club's activities, De-
puty District Governor Charles
Ashton of London was the guest
speaker at the Lions Club dinner
meeting in the Anglican Church
basement last Monday evening,
Membership buttons were pre-
sented to two new members, Lion
Harold Butler and Lion Larry
Hotson.
Plans were made for inter-
change visit with clubs from
Ilderton, Parkhill, Thorndale and
Mt. Brydges.
A discussion was held re the
District Convention to be held in
London, the end of May and a
committee, headed by Gary Mc-
Falls, was named to make the
necessary arrangements for a
Lucan float.
The door prize was won by
Lion Jim Young. Mrs. Don Ank-
er's group of the Anglican Guild,
catered for the dinner.
Instal officers
of Explorers
Monday evening 27 L u c an,
Clandeboye Explorers and three
counsellors attended an expedi-
tion in the United Church schpol-
room.
Counsellor Mrs. Dwight Hen-
derson installed the joint of-
ficers, Chief Explorers, Helen
Simpson and Wendy Ryan; Keep-
ers of the Log, Linda Hodgins,
and Susan Crozier; Keepers of
the Treasure, Louann Shipway
and Joan Donaldson.
The new Chief Explorer, Helen
Simpson, presided for the ex-
pedition. Counsellor Mrs. Wil-
liam Froats explained the new
mission expedition, "The Christ-
ian Calling", Counsellor Mrs.
Russell Thompson told a story
entitled ((They Changed a Vil-
lage".
Helen Simpson and Joan Simp-
son were in charge of the worship
service, the theme of which was,
"Wherever we are".

Sheridan Revington, in honor of
their son Gary's birthday, were

Mr. & Mrs. Meine Eizenga,
who with their seven children,
came to Canada in 1948 have
returned from a month's visit
back home, to see Mr. Eizenga's
91-year-old father, who was in
poor health. Although the country
has recovered from World War II
yet travel to many of their rela-
tives had still to be made by
boat, and living was high.
Recent Coffee Club hamper
winners were Mrs. Robert Jenk-
ins, Mrs. Keith Kraul, Mrs. Clare
Stanley and Miss Lina Abbott.
Bicidulph has
new teacher
The Lucan-B iddulph school
board met at the latter school,
last Monday evening to engage a
new Grade III teacher for the Bid-
dulph Centre to replace Mrs.
Ross Gregory, who had to resign
owing to illness. Mrs. Joan Law-
son of London was the choice
made, The resignation of John
Van Veen of the Lucan school,
as caretaker, was received. It
was decided to place an ad, for
a new custodian in both the Free
Press and the Times-Advocate.
Another special meeting is
scheduled for Mon., January 31.

ring marriage ceremony of maria
Johanne Giesen and David John
McAdam, in St, Patrick's Ro-
man Catholic Church, Biddulph.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs, Theodore A, Gie-
sen, RR 1 Thorndale, and the
groom Is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Steven McAdam of Tor-
onto.
The bride chose a floor-length
gown of peau de sole, appliqued
with Alencon lace. A crown of
pearls and cut crystal held her
three-tiered silk tulle veil. She
carried a cascade of pink baby
roses and white mums,
Mrs. Gerald Giesen, asmatron
of honor, was her only attendant,
wearing a floor-length aqua peau
Mrs. Charles Corbett, who has
been a patient in St. Joseph's
Hospital since Christmas, was
able to be brought home Wednes-
day.
Mr. & Mrs. Keith Kraul, Fri-
day attended the Ballet in Lon-
don where the former's brother
Earl was one of the dancers.
Mrs. Ernest Ross left Saturday
for St. James, Manitoba, where
for the next two weeks she will
be guest of her son, Mr. Lee
Simpson and family.
Mrs. Lela Beadle of Stratford,
has returned home, after a few
day's visit with Mr. & Mrs.
Eldon Hodgson. Mr. Hodgson is
still on the sick list.
After two months in West-
minster Hospital, Mr. Doug Ewan
was able to be brought home
Friday.
