day in Florida. John attended a
pre chain trap shoot at Sarasota,
Florida and won the shoot with
a score of 99-100, missing his
96th target.
Mrs. Fred Funk, who resides
with daughter, Mrs. Harold (An-
nie) Holmes, of Saskatchewan,
formerly of Hensall district, last
week fractured her leg and hip in
a fall in the home, Mrs. Funk, is
in her 89th year.
Mrs. Blight= Ferg is apatient
in St, Joseph's Hospital, London.

ities Commission pleasant during the 14
years I have been in office here. I am
sure I will miss the many friends which
I am leaving here as I am taking over
my new appointment in Palmerston.

Amber Rebekah Lodge meeting
was held Wednesday January 19
with the Noble Grand Mrs. George
Clifton presiding. Plans were
discussed for the 17th birthday
party to be held Wednesday, Feb-
ruary 2 in the Lodge Hall, each
member to invite a member of
their family or an acquaintance.
Mrs. Alex McBeath and her com-
mittee are in charge.
Cards will be sent to sick
members who are in hospitals
in London, Clinton and Exeter.
SHOWER FOR BRIDE-ELECT
A miscellaneous shower was
held at SS 9 Tuckersmith Friday
evening in honor of Miss Helma
Van Loon. Mrs. Alex McGregor
handed out gaily decorated doily
books filled with three enjoyable
contests.
A piano solo was given by
Janice Eyre. Bonnie and Marilyn
Cooper, Shirley Chalmers and
Susan Hoornaert sang. A step-
dancing number was given by
Carol Chalmers. Mrs. Charles
Eyre gave a reading, followed by
a piano solo by Barbara Gem-
mell. Carol Chalmers and Brenda
Cooper sang a duet.
Helma was called to the front
and seated in a special chair.
Mrs. Jim Chalmers read an ad-
dress. Susan Hoornaert and Mar-
ilyn Cooper carried in the gifts
to Helma in a gaily decorated
basket. Helma thanked everyone
for the many lovely and useful
gifts. Mrs. Vern Alderdice con-
ducted a sing-song and a bride's
book was passed around while
lunch was being prepared.

year had been registered by the
congregation.
There were five new Stewards
appointed, namely, Lloyd Cooper,
Jack Bell, Keith Love, 13111 Con-
sitt, and Wayne McBride. Sunday,
Jan. 30 a vacancy in the Session
of Elders will be filled.
The gross receipts for the
year were $6,546. The mission-
ary and maintenance givings
showed a small increase with a
total of $602. The UCW raised
a total of $1,056. W. J. F. Bell
and Duncan Cooper were ap-
pointed auditors. The meeting
concluded with a motion of appre-
ciation to all who held office
during the past year and to all
who co-operated in maintaining
the work of the church in the
community.
The Rev. E. Donald Stuart,
M.A., B.D. will be inducted into
Brucefiel d-Kippen pastoral
charge by Huron Presbytery,
prior to taking the services Sun-
day, Feb. 6. Rev, and Mrs. Stuart
have already taken up residence
in the manse at Brucefield.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
The annual congregational
meeting of Kippen United Church
was held Monday evening Jan. 17.
The first order of the evening
was a pot-luck supper at 7
o'clock.
The pastor, Rev. Edgar Roul-
ston, presided for the meeting

KIPPEN
UCW January meeting was held
in the Sunday School rooms Tues-
day evening, Jan, 11. Eighteen
ladies were present.
Mrs. Harold Jones chaired the
meeting, then called on Rev.
Roulston to perform the induc-
tion of the new executive.
Mrs. Emerson Kyle, the new
president, then took charge of
the meeting. The scripture was
taken by Mrs. A. McMurtrie,
roll call was answered with the
paying of the 1966 dues. Discus-
sion took place on the different
up-coming projects planned for
1966. Rev. Roulston was the
speaker for the evening, Hostess
was Mrs. Robt, McGregor and
co-hostess, Mrs. Alex McMur-
trie.
The new 1966 executive is

(1), This gives the Hensall Pee
Wees 9 wins and 3 losses. Sat-
urday night Jan. 29 Hensall will
meet Blyth at Hensall Arena.

pital, London for X-rays and
expects to remain in hospital
two weeks.

Miss Marie Sinclair of Palo
Alto, California flew home last
week to spend three week's vaca-
tion with her parents, Mr. &
Mrs. John Sinclair and Joan.
Mrs. A. Binnendyk visited a
few days last week with her
daughter and son-in-law, Mrs.
Gerald Vennema and Mr. Yen-
nema and family at Burlington.
Mr. Dave Sim of RR 3 Kippen
is a patient in Seaforth Commun-
ity Hospital.
Mr. & Mrs. Vivan Cooper were
confined to their home last week
through illness.
Mr. James Armstrong of Staffa
visited Wednesday afternoon with
Mr. & Mrs. N. Long.
Messrs. Robert Turner, Char-
les Stephenson, Keith Stephenson
and Jim Consitt are on a short
holiday in Florida.
Mr. John A. Cooper suffered
a heart attack Monday morning
and was taken by ambulance to
South Huron Hospital, Exeter.
DISCUSS HOME
The CGIT met Monday evening
with Patti Glenn leading the wor-
ship period.
The girls brought questions
concerning "The Teenager and
the Home". A discussion led by
Mrs. Wm. Schlegel, leader of
the girls followed.

The Grand Bend Women's In-
stitute met in the town hall Thurs-
day afternoon with twenty four
members and one visitor present.
Mrs. Roy Morenz presided for
the business. Mrs. Elgin Webb
reported their group would spon-
sor a pot luck supper to be held
Jan. 30, at 6:30 pm in the town
hall followed by entertainment.
This is a family night. Final
plans were also made for the
WI bus trip Jan. 25.
Roll call was answered by nam-
ing a new product "I have used
and like". The motto, The price
of Success is honest toil, was
given by Mrs. Charles Reeves.
Mrs. Verne Ridley, convenor
of Agriculture and Canadian In-
dustry, gave an interesting talk
on the subject of "Farming To-
day".
The 4-H Girls' sewing was on
display. The leaders Mrs. Susie
Devine and Mrs. Nola Taylor
were presented with spoons as a
thank you for the work they have

The general meeting of the
Grand Bend UCW was held Tues-
day evening with a good atten-
dance.
Mrs. G. E. Morrow conducted
the opening worship. Mrs. Mae
Holt and Mrs. Mansel Mason
sang two duets with Mrs. C.
Kennedy at the piano.
Miss Mary Lynn Kennedy,
Bradley, Hamilton and BrianGill
spoke on the Toc Alpha Confer-
ence which they attended at Niag-
ara Falls which was interesting
to all members.
Mrs. W. Gill presided for the
business. The World Day of pray-
er will be held in the Church of
God February 25. Group 6 served

here this weekend to participate
in the 30th Annual Mobile Home
and Recreational Vehicle Show
staged by the Mobile Homes
Manufacturers Association, in
the Kentucky Exposition Center,

pected to attend the giant con-
clave which covers the 17-acre
$16 million Exposition Center
and is the largest under-one-
roof show produced annually in
the nation.

session on opening day under

and Park Division of MHMA, and
financial representatives of the
industry have been invited to at-

iron spikes in the front porch
railing."
"But what in the world were
you doing up on the roof, in the
middle of winter? You must
have been out of your mind!"
"Oh, no, not really. I was
just trying to get my wife to
come down out of the tree."
And that shut her up.
As the day went on, I told
other vultures that: A Grey-
hound bus had stopped on top
of my foot and didn't move until
the lights changed; the foot had
been burned beyond recogni-
tion by a faulty electric blan-
ket; that my daughter had been
helping to chopkindling for the
fireplace, missed, and lopped
off all but my littlest toe.
Getting my coat in the cloak
-room at the end of a pretty
interesting day, I heard two
female colleagues, unaware of
my presence, reconstructing
the accident.
"Drunk as abilly-goat, they
say, and climbing a tree after
black squirrels, with a shot-
gun."
"No, no I heard heed gone
after his wife and kids with the
axe, and dropped it on his
foot." 1 limped off. Quietly.
