Gelinas, 45, of London, who was born and raised near Mt Carmel died in St. Joseph's Hospital Sunday, January 16. She was the former Merle Christina Dietrich. G. Jackson and Roy Cunningham were sworn into of- fice by the secretary previous to the Prayer of Invocation by Rev. Arthur Newsham. The meeting was then open for nominations for a chairman for 1966. Jack Dorman was elected Chairman; Marshall Dear in g, vice-chairman and David Henry was re-engaged secretary-trea- surer. The board decided to call tenders for fuel for the McGil- livray and Ailsa Craig schools. Inspector of Schools, Mr. G. F. Ross attended the meeting and discussed with the board the ad- visability of an addition on the McGillivray School to accommo- date the children from Ailsa Craig. This matter of business was tabled and the meeting ad- journed. Senior girls team from Strat- ford travelled to SHDHS for a game with our girls. SHDHS sen- ior boys won their game, but the juniors lost, SHDHS senior girls won their game, 63-12. The driver's training course has attracted about twenty people. Most of them are getting In quite a bit of driving time. The course instructor is Mr. Jack Fulcher of Exeter. Exams begin Thursday (today). Good luck to all! Hensall downs Brussels 7-2 Hensall Pee Wees in a WOAA hockey game at Hensall Saturday night defeated Brussels Pee Wees 7-2. Score in tile first period was all tied up at 2-2, but the local team went ahead to win the game. Goal getters for Hensall Brian Campbell, three; Larry Fergus- on, Ricky Parker, Gordon Pryde, Al Corbett, had singles. Brussels goal getters were R. McDonald and Philip Blake. Brussels will meet Hensall this Saturday night 22nd at Hensall Arena game time 6:45 pm. Newfoundland stamp issue Newfoundland's coat of arms and floral emblem will appear on a stamp to be released Feb- ruary 23, 1966. This large five cent stamp will be printed in tones of black, green and red. The provincial emblem, the Pitcher Plant, which was adopted in 1954, will be prin- ted by the offset process. The intaglio method will print the coat of arms. The stamp is one in the floral emblem series hon- ouring Canada's centennial in 1967. The series began in 1964 and will be completed this year. The Ma- laysian Officers arrived in Ca- nada and Centralia 25 September, 1965, and have spent the last 16 weeks receiving the initial phase of their pilot instruction onChip- monk aircraft. C GF Ockenden, DFC, CD, Commanding Officer of Centra- lia, presented the graduation cer- tificates to the Malaysians at a parade held Thursday afternoon. He said he was proud that Cen- tralia had been chosen as the first Canadian Air Force unit to train the Malaysians and that their record of training was ex- cellent. He noted that although they had never seen snow before coming to Canada, they entered into the Canadian winter activi- ties with zest and had formed the first Malaysian hockey team. Before coming to Canada, the Malaysian officers attended their own Military College at Kuala Lumpur for six months. They have completed their first phase of pilot training and will leave Centralia in the near future for Western Canada, where they will The boys' senior and junior basketball teams travelled to Mitchell, Tuesday Jan 11 for their games, The Seniors lost 58-47, but the Juniors won, 53-26. The girls' basketball teams from Mitchell travelled to SHDHS for games against our girls, Wed Jan 12, South Huron Seniors won their game 33-14, as did the Ju- niors, 18-11. The Grade 12 public speaking contest was held last week. The winners for the girls were first, Jayne Poortinga speaking on "The Eve of Destruction", sec- ond, Brenda Dinney speaking on "Teenagers", and third, Enid Blackwell speaking on "The Great American Fallacy". The winners in the boys divi- sion were first, Malcolm Hilts speaking on 'Why Can't They?", second, Bob Higgins speaking on “Advertising" and third, Len Hume speaking on "Social Pro- test". The overall senior winner for Grades 11 and 12 was Dennis Hazelton of 11-E. Congratulations Dennis! A few weeks back I made men- tion of Candid Camera Week at the school. Alfred Aguilina was the $3.00 prize winner. The pic- tures were judged by staff mem- bers who are not associated with a school organization. Alfred en- tered over one-third of all the pictures submitted to the con- test. The standings of the Athletic Houses have been announced. The Blue House is first with a total of 6089 points, the Green House, second with a total of 4810 points, the Yellow House, third with a total of 4689 points and the White House, fourth with a total of 4001 points.
