In a brief business period pre- ceding the program Mrs, J. G. Dunlop, reporting from the Hos- pital Board, noted that of the $1800 donated to the Hospital by Dr. B. A. Campbell of Tor- onto, formerly of Hensall, $800 had been spent for an oxygen tent and earmarked the balance, Gordon auxiliary instals officers The annual meeting of the Gor- don Evening Auxiliary of Caven Church was held last Monday evening at the home of the pre- sident, Mrs. Hugh Patterson. Mrs. J. C. Boyne was in charge of the devotional period choosing the Christmas story for he r theme. She also installed the of- ficers for 1966. Miss Carolyn Simpson gave the report of the nom rating committee. Past president is Mrs. Hugh Patterson, president, Mrs. Bill Perry, vice -p residen t, Miss CarOlyn Simpson; secretary, Mrs. Mary Wilcox; tr ea su r er, Mrs. Murray Keys; Secretaries for Glad Tidings, and welcome and welfare, Mrs. H. Patterson; library and litera- ture, Mrs. Alex lieikle; supply and life membership, Mrs. Andy Miller. Mrs. Alex Meikie read an ar- ticle "Toys in the Day of our Lord." The incoming president concluded the meeting. Mrs. Murray Keys assisted the hostess with lunch. $1,000, toward a new operating table. The Auxiliary voted to add the $150Q to cover the cost of the table, The addition to the kitchen is now underway, Miss Alice Claypole presided for a program which included a talk by Mrs. S. E. Lewis on a Christmas card and the spirit of love with it, a reading by Mrs. Marjory Dilkes, solos by Mrs. George Sereda and the singing of carols led by Ray Mills with Mrs. A. Willard at the piano. Lunch in the Christmas tradi- tion was served by the staff in the board room. Couple mark anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Art Cann were entertained by close friends Sat- urday evening at a 'Ironer at the Dominion Hotel, Zurich, on the occasion of their 25th wedding a nnt,,•ersary. Following the dinner cards were played at the home of Dr. and Mrs. R. F. Roelof son and the couple were presented with a gift. BRIDGE WINNERS Bridge scores for NS players for Thursday, December 9 went to Mrs. Andy Bierling and W. G. Huntley; john Capling and Brent Marsters; E-W players, 'Miss Lois Harrington and Mrs. Cora Wurm; Mrs. Warren Sanders, Mrs. C. Snell. Games will be held Thursday, December 16 as usual but no game December 23 or 30. Miss Judy Tuckey Mr. and Mrs. James Tuckey of Cass City, Mich., announce the engagement of their daughter, Judy An:: to Douglas Lloyd Hall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hall of Yale, Mich. Judy Ann is a graduate of Cass C ity High School and has attended one year at Bethel College, Mishawaka, Ind. Douglas Is a junior at Bethel College where he is studying for his B Sc in education. Wed- ding plans are indefinite. Judy is a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Tuckey, Exeter. Annual reports were heard and officers for 1966 elected. Rev. J. C. Boyne continued with the Bible study on St. John's Gospel and the study "Mission the Chris- tian's calling" was prepared by Mrs. David Millar and given by Mrs. William Sillery. Each one was urged to be a missionary in the place one lives and works. Mrs. Nora/ Taylor presided for the .election of officers. Pre- sident is Mrs. Harry Strang; vice-president, Mrs. Alvin Moir; secretary and press, Mrs. C. J. James St. CGIT vesper service Main Street, James Street and Centralia CGIT groups combined for the national Christmas vesper service Sunday evening in James Street United Church, the theme being Emmanuel—God With Us. The girls entered the church in processional and the majority filled the choir loft and the center pews. Leading in the service were the readers, Diane Oke and Linda Bourne. Candle lighters were Rennie Poortinga and Mary Lou Howard. Acting as ushers were Marie Powe and Janet McDowell of the Centralia. CGIT. Leaders with the girls were Mrs. Roy Stover, Mrs. R. S. Mrs. R. McCaffrey, Mrs. Frank Hicks and Mrs. D. A. Ecker, Catherine A. Toal CWL speaker Miss Catherine A, Toal of London, national president of the Catholic Women's League, was guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the Christ the King CWL, Miss Teal has been a dedicated member of the CWL since 1928 and held various offices on par- ish, diocesan, provincial and national executives before being elected to the post of National President in 1964. Mrs. Gilberta Haight intro- duced the speaker who covered many subjects pertaining toCWL ideals and plans for the future. Ladies from Clandeboye, Exeter and Mount Carmel parish coun- cils were present. An informal hour followed and refreshments were served. Miss Kathryn Oke is WI speaker Highlight of the Ch r i simas meeting of Hurondale WI held Monday evening in Caven Church was the talk by Miss Kathryn Oke telling of her trip to Toronto and Ottawa with other 4-H mem- bers who were chosen because of outstanding work in 4-H clubs and community. Mrs. William Dougall display- ed and demonstrated Christmas decorations. In answer to the roll call donations were given for the Children's Aid, Goderich, amounting to $15.25. Carols were sung led by Mrs. Lorne Oke with Mrs. Harry Strang at the piano and Mrs. Glen Stewart favored with a Christmas reading. The directors arranged the program and Mrs. Almer Passmore pre- sided.
