• This band has entertained over
100,000 students in Ontario high
schools in the past two years,
but this was the first time they
had played at SHDHS. We all
thank them very much for an
enjoyable afternoon and wish
them good fortune in the future.
The magazine campaign got
off to a good start last week
and so far $2500 has been col-
lected, but we are still a bit
behind our daily quota. I do hope
there is no one who hasn't been
contacted about the campaign. If
this situation has arisen, please
feel free to contact any high
school student, who would be
glad to help you. The campaign
will continue until this Friday,
Dec. 3. The quota for the entire
school is $8,000 and this will be
reached if everyone participates.
Well, now with the first snow-
fall of the season upon us, every-
one has dug out their winter
coats and snowboots. I have
noticed that this is once again
the year for high boots. This
year, though, many more girls
have small, 1" heels on their
boots. I have a pair of this type
and contrary to popular opinion,
they are very comfortable. A
fur collar on your coat is still
a very influential fashion trait.
Many more girls this year, than
last year, are also wearing tar-
Last Friday, Nov. 26, at 2:30
P.m. in the auditorium, students
and staff members had a rare
treat. The Royal Canadian Regi-
ment Concert Band under the
direction of Lt. Derek Stannard
CD, LRAM, ARCM, ARCT, pre-
sented a concert entitled Inter-
lude for Music.
Lt. Stannard is assistant con-
ductor of the London Symphony
Orchestra and is also conductor
of the London Youth Orchestra.
Lt. Stannard is a composer, as
well as being one of the youngest
and most dynamic of today's
major military band conductors.
The concert included popular
tunes, as well as classical music.
Two solos were performed by
members of the band.
Lt. Stannard has that delight-
ful sense of humour which only
the English seem to have. He
was very enjoyable, as was the
entire band.
"I wouldn't worry, Jane. All
married people fight."
