Baskets of large and small white mums edged in red formed the setting in Christian Reform- ed Church on Friday, November 5 for the marriage ceremony at 7:30 pm of Geraldine Ruth Ver- kerk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Verkerk, Crediton, and George Westerik, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Westerik, Burlington. Rev. J. Medendorp officiated and Miss Margaret Bosch, Exet- er, played the wedding music and accompanied the soloist, Mr. H. Klungel, Hensall. The bride chose for her wed- ding a floor-length gown of peau de faille fashioned with Chantilly lace on the front with self trim bows and a detachable watteau train flowed gracefully from the neckline. The fitted bodice was styled with a modified scoop neckline and long lily p o int sleeves. Her headpiece was of Chantilly lace sprinkled with pearls and fashioned as a Dutch bonnet. Her cascade style bouquet was of 24 Yuletide red roses and white feathered mums. Matron of honor was Mrs. Mynie Zondag of Grand Rapids, Mich., wearing a red street- length dress of acetate and nylon lace over rayon taffeta with full skirt of unpressed pleats. She wore a red flowered hat with matching veil and carried a cas- cade of white carnations. Brides- Caven group view slides At the meeting of Caven Con- gregational Circle in the church last Tuesday evening Mr. W. H. Hodgson showed numerous slides illustrating "Beauty is Where You Find it". Pictures were mostly of flowers and ordinary things around each one. Devotional was taken by Mrs. Elizabeth Moore with excerpts from the book ccGoingSteady With God." The meeting was chaired by Mrs. Norman Stanlake. Final arrangements were made for the smorgasbord held Tuesday noon. Wedding Flowers ... from the florist with the green thumb ... beautiful ... tasteful... correct maids were Misses Wilma and Jenney Verkerk, Crediton, gown- ed similarly to the matron of honor. The reception was held in the church rooms where the bride's mother received guests in a dark red dress of rayon boucle with black accessories. The groom's mother chose a navy dress with white lace trim. Servers were Misses Irene Van Wieren, Tine Vanderlaan, Margaret Bosch, Mary Fischer, Margaret Rooseboom and Ger- aldine Plantinga. For travelling to Montreal the bride changed to a burgundy vel- vet A-line dress and black ac- cessories. The couple will-reside in Lon- don. Friends fete bride elect Last Wednesday evening Mrs. Lorry Cann entertained friends of both the groom-elect and bride-elect and presented them with miscellaneous gifts. Mrs. Glenn Fisher and Mrs. William Ford were joint hos- tesses for a miscellaneous show- er for the bride-elect of Saturday. Miss Barbara Whiting, bride- elect of this month, has been honored at several pre-nuptial events. Last Wednesday evening friends and neighbors gathered at the home of Mrs. Gerald MacLean, Marlborough St., and tendered a miscellaneous shower of gifts for the bride-elect. Thursday evening school friends at Clinton gathered at the home of Miss Mary Jane Neilans and presented the bride- elect with gifts. Tuesday evening Miss Phyllis Madge entertained the young friends and chums of Barbara's who gave her gifts presented in a decorated basket by Sandra Hunter and Dorothy Dickey. Miss Madge read the address. In a flying-up ceremony Friday night 12 Brownies were received into the Guide Company following a banquet for Guides, Brownies and their mothers in Exeter Le- gion Hall. The Brownies were presented by Brown Owls Mrs. J. Wooden and Mrs. D. J. Harrison and received by Mrs. J. P. Gandon, district commissioner and Cap- tain Mrs. B. D. Sturrock. Mrs. Gandon presided for the program and spoke of some imin- ent changes in the Guiding pro- gram which would make it more applicable to every day lives and hinted that mothers would be At the annual meeting Tuesday afternoon of the Women's Aux- iliary to South Huron Mrs. Harold Taylor was re-elected president for her second year. Vice-presidents are Mrs. Del- mer Skinner, Mrs. Glenn Mickle and Miss Ruth Skinner; recording secretary, Mrs. Melvin Gaiser; assistant, Mrs. S. E. Lewis; corresponding secretary, Miss Greta Harness; assistant, Mrs. W. C. Allison; treasurer, Mrs. Charles Smith; assistant, Mrs. Harvey Pollen; historian, Mrs. Gordon Koch; pianists, Mrs. Amiel Willard, Mrs. M. C. Flet- cher and Mrs. Larry Snider. Annual reports revealed a busy year. Mrs. J. H. Delbridge as staff representative reported that the 12 RNA students for which she is instructress would hold graduation ceremonies Decem- ber 3 in James Street United Church. She also noted that ap- proval for the extension of the hospital kitchen had been re- ceived and tenders called for. The Auxiliary expect to help with the kitchen furnishings. Michelle Harrison proposed a toast to the mothers and Mrs. J. M. Gibson toasted the Rangers, Guides and Brownies. Mrs. Fred Simmons, president of the Local Association, presented Mrs. Gib- son with a thankyou pin in appre- ciation for her work as Captain of the Rangers. Mrs. Gibson organized the Ranger s three years ago but has resigned this year. Her place will be taken by Miss Margaret Emerson of the SHDHS staff. Paula Barrett and Lynn Page led in a singsong and the Brownies and Guides entertained with skits and stunts. The Guides gave a skit "Guides of Yesterday and Tomorrow."
