A short Legion-spon- sored wreath-laying ceremony took place at the Cenotaph at 10:30 am when the following wreaths were placed: Provincial by Mrs. Mary Taylor; Village of Hensall, Reeve Norman H. Jones; Legion, President Ted Roberts; Auxiliary, Preside nt Mrs. Roy Smale; Township of Hay, Reeve John Corbett; Town- ship of Tuckersmith, Reeve Elgin A public meeting sponsored by the District Bible Society will be held Sunday evening November 14 in Hensall Carmel Presbyterian Church at 8 pm. An illustrated film will be presented of the work, by the District Secretary Rev. J. C. Thompson, BA, BD. Mr. & Mrs. F. R. Boogemans of Burlington were weeke nd guests with Mrs. Pearl Pass- more. Wes Richardson, Ross Rich- ardson, Jim McAllister, Bill Bell, Dave Triebner, Carl Mc- Clinchey, Ed Morton, Wilmer Dalrymple, Ted Roberts, Howard Smale, Harold Parker, Emmer- son Kyle, Allan Tremeer left over the weekend on a hunting expedition at Eckford Camp, Restoule, near North Bay. They expect to be away a week. Mrs. Lorne Webster haS re- turned to her home in Seaforth after a week's visit with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Clendon Christie, and her granddaughter C a th a r i ne Anne Christie who is recovering from an illness. Mr. & Mrs. Laird Mickle were guests Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Thomson; Kinsmen and Kinettes, Jack Drysdale; Scouts, Ted Ro- berts; Girl Guides, Mrs. Harold Campbell. Following the service the par- ade marched to the church for divine worship, and were ad- dressed by Rev. H. F. Currie who chose for his sermon theme "The Unknown Soldier" and "The Unknown God". The choir sang under direction of Mrs. John Turkheim. Parade Marshall was Wilmer Dalrymple; color bearer, James Donald Galpin and family in Sar- nia. Mrs. Cecil Pullman will be hostess for Kippen East WI citi- zenship meeting Wednesday, No- vember 1'7 at 8:30 pm. Speaker will be Rev. Allan Scott, Egmond- vile, who will speak on "The problem of the Indian". Mrs. Ross Dick, London, Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Eller, Toronto, and Mr. & Mrs. Chas. Robinson, Bath, visited Mrs. Hugh Mc- Murtrie and attended the Dick- Gaiser wedding. In a recent canvass of the con- gregation of Carmel Presbyter- ian Church $1,300 was received. This pays all bills leaving a working balance of $500.00. Kippen UCW are holding their annual bazaar and tea in the church, Saturday, November 13 at 2:30 pm. Mr. & Mrs. Frank Gemmell of Moose Jaw, Sask. were guests this week with Mrs. Harry Cald- well and Jack. ' Miss Margaret Jar rott and Miss Vera Culvert of Stratford were guests Thursday with Mr. & Mrs. J. E. McEwen. Taylor; Legion Flag bearers W. H. Bell and Don McCurdy; Aux- iliary, Mrs. Harry Horton, sgt. at arms; and Mrs. W. J. Camer- on, standard bearer; bugler, Sgt. G. DeGagne, and Drummer, Cpl. P. Scarrow, both of RCAF Station, Centralia. Ladies canvass for poppy fund The Legion Ladies Auxiliary met Tuesday night with president Mrs. Roy Smale presiding. Plans were outlined for a Christmas money doll draw, and for the Christmas meeting in December at which members will exchange gifts. Nomination was held. Members canvassed the village Saturday for the Poppy Fund. Prizes were won by the follow- ing: Attendance, Mrs. Mary Tay- lor; mystery, Mrs. Byran Kyle; guessing, Mrs. Wilmer Dal- rymple. A social hour of bingo and lunch was enjoyed. Bazaar nets $200 Saturday Carmel Presbyterian WMS met Monday evening with president Mrs. Earl Campbell presiding. The devotional was conducted by Mrs. George Walz, assisted by Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. John Love. Mrs. Walz gave the study and a reading on "Remem- brance". An invitation to the Presbyterian Church, C 1 i n t o n, thank-offering meeting Novem- ber 10 was accepted. The Ladies Aid held a brief meeting when the group were informed that over $200 was realized from their bazaar held Saturday. UCW unit 4 met in Fellowship Hall Thursday afternoon in charge of Mrs. E. Rowe. and Mrs. W, Dilling. Mrs. Dulling presided and gave the devotional. Study was by Mrs. James Mc- Allister who conducted the group on an imaginery trip around and through Brazil which Is the fourth largest country in the world, half the size of America and the same size as the United States. It is divided into twenty two states, the one language spoken is Portu- gese. She told of the financial trade Ladies Aid bazaar success The schoolroom of C arm e 1 Presbyterian Church, decorated in Christmas motif, was the set- ting Saturday for a successful bazaar, bake sale and tea spon- sored by the Ladies Aid of the church. It was well attended and officially opened by president Mrs. Harvey Hyde. Convenors of booths were: Bake table, Mrs. E. Munn, Mrs. Lorne Luker, Mrs. Percy Camp- bell, Mrs. Clifford Moir, Mrs. Clarence Volland; sewing, Mrs. Earl Campbell, Mrs. Rochus Faber, Mrs. Robert Bell, Mrs. Walz, Mrs. Harry Snell; produce, Mrs. John Love, Mrs. Robert Madge, Mrs. Archie Hoggarth; candy, Mrs. Len Purdy; touch and take and white elephant, Mrs. Frank Wright, Mrs. R. A. Orr. Tea tables were under the convenorship of Mrs. R ober t Bell. Resident was retired farmer Mr. James Mustard, 92, a resident of Hensall for the past 11 years and a retired farmer of the Kippen area, passed away in Clinton Public Hospital Wed- nesday, November 3, where he had been admitted a week pre- vious to his death with a heart condition. He was a member of Carmel Presbyterian Church, Hensall. Surviving are one son James, London; one daughter (Blanche) Mrs. Malcolm Dougall, RR 3 Exeter; one grandsoh and one great-grandson. Mrs. Mustard predeceased him in 1949. Funeral services were held from the Bonthron Funeral Cha- pel, Hensall, Saturday, Nov. 6 conducted by Rev. J. C. Boyne. Burial was in Exeter cemetery. pallbearers were John Hen- derson, Exeter; Robert McGre- gor, James Bengough, Morley Cooper, Hugh McEwen and Jim Sangster, and religious interest, and stated that there was a great cry for justice, bread and education. Mrs. Cross reported the au- tumn thank-offering to date has amounted to $113.00. Mrs. N. E. Cook reported on packing of bale, which included eight boxes of good clothing for overseas relief and three boxes for the Salvation Army. The layette has been sent to the Presbyterial supply secretary. Plans for the bazaar November 27 were finalized, this unit to have charge of tea room, attic treasures and candy booth. Members were reminded of the Christmas stocking project, pro- ceeds of which will help furnish living quarters for young people at UWO. A motion was passed that the group join in with the other three units who will have complete charge for the Christmas meet- ing Dec. 13. Each unit will have their own business meeting pre- vious to meeting together. Carol Brown receives degree Miss Carol Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Brown, Seaforth, (formerly of Hensall), received her degree, A. Mus., at the fall convocation of the University of Western Ontario, Saturday, October 30. Her parents gave a dinner in her honor at First Presby- terian Church, Seaforth, attend- ed by about forty relatives and friends. After the dinner Carol entertained her guests in her home with piano numbers. Monday evening November 15, Miss Brown will receive her degree ARCT, at the fall con- vocation of the University of Toronto. Hi-C group view film Hensall-Chiselhurst Hi-C lowship grOup met Sunclgy evening in the United Church with Robert McNaughton's group in charge. A film, "Trans-Canada Journey" was shown, and projects for the coming year were outlined. There were twenty present. Lodge aids CAS fund Amber Rebekah Lodge met Wednesday evening, Nov. 3 with Noble Grand Mrs. George Clifton presiding. A donation to the Children's Aid Society, Goderich,christrnas fund was given. District Deputy President Mrs. Edna Caldwell Mrs. Gordon J. Kaitting of Goderich was guest soloist at the morning service in Carmel Church. She was accompanied at the church organ by her sis- ter, Mrs. Beatrice Hess, church organist. Rev. J. C. Boyne for his message spoke on "Free- dom".
