Students tour Times Advocate
Thirty two students and 19 parents from Oil City toured the Times-
Advocate Thursday while visiting Exeter. Mrs. Vera Blackwell a
former resident of Exeter is the students' teacher. The tour marked
a change for the students who were integrated into graded classes

Station Centralia
On Sunday evening Air Com-
modore C. F. Burgess DFC,
CD, the Air Officer Commanding
RCAF Training Command arri-
ved atRCAF_Station Centralia.,
He was greeted by G/C G. F.
Ockenden, Commanding Officer,
a 50 man Guard of Honour under
the command of F/O Jack Butter-
field and the Station Volunteer
Band under the direction of Band-
master Sgt J. G. V. Degagne.
Later in the evening the Air
Commodore was the guest of
honour at a dining-in night in
the Officers' Mess where approx-
imately 400 officers and their
ladies paid their respects to the
Chief of Training Command.
On Monday A/C Burgess began
his formal inspection of the base,
visiting the various schools, sec-
tions and quarters. He had lunch
with the Sergeants, before dinner
cocktails with the Airmen and a
formal Mess Dinner with the
Officer Cadets. During his in-
spection tour he had the oppor-
tunity to meet and talk to the
students under-training at this
unit. Particular attention was
shown to the Malaysians and
Tanzanians who have just re-
cently arrived from overseas.
Tuesday morning RCAF Sta-
tion Clinton, under the Command
of G/C K. Greenaway, received
the Air Commodor where, he
carried out a similar inspection
of that unit.
LOCAL OFFICER PROMOTED
Promoted to Squadron Leader,
Ernest Keasey, born in Strat-
ford-on-Avon, England, of Wood-
stock, Ontario.
S/L Keasey served during the
war as a wireless operator and
was released at the end of hos-
tilities. He re-engaged again in
1949 as a sergeant Communi-
cations technician and has been
in that field to this time. Pres-
ently he is serving as a Chief
of Telecommunications Train-
ing at Central Officers School,
RCAF Station Centralia.
S/L Keasey is married to the
former Pearl Brooks of Regina,
Sask., and Woodstock, and re-
sides in Huron Park with his
wife and three daughters.

Mrs. Garnet Taylor was hos-
tess for the Staffa Women's In-
stitute meeting held in her home.
Wednesday evening Oct 6. Mrs.
Cecil Bowman presided.
Mrs.. Carter Kerslake gave
an interesting paper on the mo—

someone I admire."
The 4-H girls had two exhibits
on display, Staffa east had Hea-
ther Daynard's display on "Na-
ture" for the Club girl stands on
guard and. Staffa west had a
clothing display on ',What Shall
I Wear" with Carol Ann Dow
giving the commentary. Mrs. Ed
Chappel gave an interesting read-
ing and Mrs. Roy McDonald had
riddles.
Mrs. Carter Kerslake presi-
ded for the business. The Perth
County rally to be held in Strat-
ford on Oct 21 was discussed and
Mrs. Tom Laing and Miss Vera
Hambley were named to look
after the relishes.
Members were reminded about
the Area Convention at the Vic-
torian Inn Nov 2 and 3 and the
Food Forum to be held in Mit-
chell Nov 9. A committee was
named to look after entertain-
ing night Oct 27 when the mem-
bers are planning to entertain
their husbands to dinner. Any-
one interested in t a k in g the
leathercraft course which the
Institute is sponsoring to be held
in Staffa hall from Nov 25 to 27
is asked to contact one of the
members.
Mrs. Penelope Fell and Mrs.
Cameron Vivian were named to
pack the Institute's ad opted
child's Christmas box and mem-
bers are asked to have their
donations in by the end of Oc-
tober.
As her special number Mrs.
Garnet Taylor had asked Mrs.
Clarence Stevenson to display
her hooked mats. She also gave
a demonstration on hooking.
ENTERTAIN WI
Staffa Senior Citizens' enter-
tained the Women's Institute
Tuesday evening in Staffa hall.
Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Dow showed
some interesting pictures on
their recent trip to England to
visit Mrs. Dow's parents.
Intended for last week
Mrs. Sam Norris has returned
home from a three-week visit
with her daughter and son-in-law,
Mr. & Mrs. Anthony Brait and
Richard, St. John's Nova Scotia.
On the way home she visited
with Mr. & Mrs. Eric Norris,
Macdonald College, Ste. Annede
Bellevue Quebec and Mr. & Mrs.
Jim Lyall and family, Agincourt.
Mrs. Gordon Parsons, Mary
and Michael visited over the
Thanksgiving weekend with rela-
tives in Toronto.
Misses Edna and Janet Miller,
London, spent the weekend with
their parents, Mr. & Mrs. Leslie
Miller.
Chamber gathered at the local
air station and were briefed by
the Commanding Officer, G/C
G. F. Ockenden, on the role of
the local air installation. Spec-
ific references were made to
the gross payroll and capital
expenditures of the unit and the
part the station plays in the
local economy' of the area. The
Officers Commanding the indi-
vidual schools and units rela-
ted to the Chamber the way each
unit fits in the overall role of
the station. A discussion period
followed the briefing prior to a
tour of some of the Sections
and Training facilities. The even-
ing was capped by a social time
in the Officers' Mess.

family, Brampton, visited over
the weekend with Mrs. Sam Nor-
ris and Mr. & Mrs. Bob Norris
and girls.
Miss Mary McDougall and Mr.
Ron Rossi, Toronto visited over
the weekend with. Mr. & Mrs.

Roy Balkwell received word
of the passing of Dean Olver at
Corning, Saskatchewan.
Miss Ethel Balkwell returned
home last week from Stratford
General Hospital.
