Russell Gordon officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Z. Hick- son of Margaret St. Lucan and the groom is the son of Mr. andMrs. Ralph P. Rummell of Albert St. Lucan, Given in marriage by her fa- ther, the bride chose a floor- length A-line gown, of French peau de soie with lace covered bodice, lily point' sleeves and scoop neckline. The-Entplre-sty- led ensemble, featured a train Cascading from a bow at the back of the waist. An elbow- length veil of French illusion edged with lace was held by a crown of lace and seed pearls. She carried a cascade of red roses, stephanotis and trailing ivy. Mrs. Donald Riley of Strat- ford as matron of honor for her sister and Mrs. Mac Lachlan of Watford and Miss Joyce Rum- mell of Lucan, as bridesmaids, Catholic Mrs. Joseph Nagle presided at a CWL meeting held in the old school last Tuesday night. Plans for their autumn fair bazaar and tea in the Lucan Community Centre Friday, Oct. 15, were finalized. Mrs. John Dewan won the door prize. A going-away gift for Mrs. Dwight Ball, who is moving to London, will be presented to Mrs. Ball later by the president, as Mrs. Ball was unable to be present. Mrs. Jack Boland and Mrs. A. Devouwer served refreshments. Anglican There was a splendid attend- ance at the Sr. Woman's Auxiliary meeting at the home of Miss Line Abbott last Wednesday with pre- sident, Mrs. Frank Harding pre- siding, who, with Mrs. E. 0. Lancaster, reported on the Fall Deanery meeting. Articles for the bale to Rev. Stanley Tomes and a gift to Miss L. Powell were discussed. It was decided to leave the Little Helpers' party till the November meeting. Educational leader Mrs. Har- old Hodgins read two newspaper items on ,(Anglican Women Take New Look" and "Torrent of Criticism at WA meeting in Ed- monton". These led to a long dis- cussion. Mrs. Roy Hamilton also read an article entitled, ('Things to be Remembered." Co-hostesses were Mrs. Will Haskett and Mrs. Roy Hamilton. Mrs. Earl Atkin- Mr. & Mrs. Earl Ranting of Sarnia took Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Ranting on an eight-day holiday. They visited Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Killeen, who have moved from Riehmond Hill to Tamworth where Mr. Killarri is now HS principal. They also visited their son and lanilly in Ottawa. Mr. & Mrs. Harold Corbett and Mr. & Mrs. Charles Corbett Of Lucan, Mrs. James Orr of were gowned alike in street- length dresses of turquoise peau de soie in Empire style similar to that of the bride's gown. They carried white and turquoise- tin- ted carnations. Derek Stedwell of Sarnia was best man and James G. Rummell, and Robert D. Hickson were ush- ers. Mrs. Bob McManus as organ- ist provided traditional wedding music including The Wedding P rayer". The reception was held in the Lucan Legion Hall. The bride's mother received in a two-piece dress of teal blue ribbonette, cranberry hat, black patent leather accessories and corsage pe_yellow roses. The groom's mother chose a pale blue brocade sheath, black acces- sories and pink rose corsage. For a honeymoon trip to the Southern States the bride changed to a two-piece suit of teal blue crepe, with black patent leather accessories, and a pink and white carnation corsage. The couple will make their home in London. All gowns including the bridal gown were made by the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Robert Hick- son. son offered her home for the November meeting. EVENING AUXILIARY The Evening Auxiliary held its meeting at the home of the president, Mrs. Gerald Lewis, last Wednesday evening with Mrs. Clarence Haskett and Mrs. Alan Scott as co-hostesses. The pre- sident, Mrs. Haskett and Mrs. Kay Egan reported on the Glencoe Deanery meeting. Anyone with used clothing for the bale for Rev. Stanley Tomes is asked to leave it in the Parish Hall. • The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Clarence Haskett. ATTENDS CONFERENCE Rev, E. 0. Lancaster attended the annual Clergy Conference for the Diocese of Huron held at Stratford, Oct. 12-14. Flowers in the church were in memory of the late Cecil Hod- gins. Inclement weather didn't keep the children home for the Jr. and Intermediate choirs as well as The League of Loyalty were out in large numbers, with two new membersin the League of Loyal- ty. United Rev. J. C. Thompson from Lon- don, who is secretary for the Canadian Bible Society in West- ern Ontario, and a former mis- sionary In the West Indies, was the guest speaker at the church's Thanksgiving service. Parkhill and Mr. Ronald Stones of Thedford attended the funeral of Mrs. Hamilton Corbett of Tor- onto, who died very suddenly last Week. Mrs. Richard Dickins of Exeter was a weekend guest of Mrs. Bob Coleman. Both spent Thatike- giving with Mr. & Mrs. W. W. Garrett of London. if you do not receive your Exeter paper, do not ring Exeter Was well known Lucan citizen With the sudden passing of James Cecil Hodgins, 62, Tues- day, October 5, at his home lot 28, Concession 5 Biddulph, Lucan lost another of its well-known citizens. The body rested in the C. Has- kett & Sons' Funeral Home, Lucan, until 2 pm Thursday, Oct. '7 when the Rev. E. 0. Lan- caster conducted funeral ser- vices. Interment was in St. James Cemetery, Clandeboye. Pallbearers included Messrs. Cliff Shipley, Norman Coursey, Jack Elson, Sam Beck, Clarence Morgan and Eldon Young. He is survived by his wife, the former Thelma Strasser, two sons, Cecil Jr. of Lucan and Jo- seph at home, one step-son Her- bert Stretton of Hensall, one sister Myrtle (Mrs. Albert Fish- er) of Stratford and two grand- children. Son of the late Erwin Hodgins and grandson of the late George Hodgins, he was the third genera- tion to work the 100 acre farm on the north edge of Lucan, For the past 10 years Mr. Hodgins also worked for the Department of Highways. For a number of years he suffered with a bad heart and at the time of his death, he was on sick leave but was planning to go back to work in the near future. Mill rate causes council problems Two Biddulph Council meet- ings were held this month Tues- day and Thursday a f te r noo n. Clerk Austin Hodgins reports; Road superintendent, Douglas Tuttle of Granton was instructed to advertise for tenders for snow ploughers. Building permits were au- thorized for Garfield Nixon and Stephen Rooney of Granton. The police village of Granton is entitled to some reduction in the township mill rate. Both the trustees of the village and the township council must decide on the amount of such reduction. As no agreement could be reach- ed the council instructed clerk Austin Hodgins to apply to the Ontario Municipal Board for a decision. Lucan IGA winners Lucan IGA shoppers were very lucky last week. Mrs. William Morley of Granton and Mrs. Basil Nagle of Lucan found certificates in their IGA bread, entitling them to an electric furniture polisher each. Miss Gayle Whitman of Clan- deboye won $10, a large case of Canada Dry and 1,500 stamps, Mrs. Jim Avery won a $2 voucher and a case of Canada Dry -- and will also appear on TV this week. Social evening Thursday night the LOL spon- sored a euchre and dance at the Community Memorial Centre, which drew a good attendance. Winners at the 12-table euchre were; high score, Mrs. W. W. Mr. Joseph Reidy of Buffalo spent three days last week with Mr. & Mrs. Keith Dickson and Mr. & Mrs. Cliff Abbott were Sunday callers on Mr. & Mrs. Duncan Tindall of Listowel. Mrs. Frank Hardy has return- ed home after spending a few days with her daughter, Mrs. John Knight and family of Kintore, Mr. & Mrs. Allan Hodgins have returned to Chilliwack, B.C. after visiting relatives in the Lucan district and enjoying two get- to-gether parties at Mr. & Mrs. Austin Hedgins and Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Davis. Mrs. Maude Berry has return- ed hone to St. Marys after spend- ing a week with Mrs. Jane Somer- ville. Last Friday night Joseph Kraj- cer Of RR 1 Ilderton was able to climb out of his car when it plung- ed Into a 15 foot excavation on the Sarnia travel Road, Roy Dobroski Roy Dobroski, the new manager of the Lucan arena.,has arrived in Lucan and has started his new duties. Mr. Dobroski ,who is a native of Saskatchewan, moved to Sarnia in 1939 where he com- pleted his schooling. Following this he was employed as a pro- cess engineer at the Allied and St. Clair Chemical Company Ltd. of Sarnia. He holds a third class stationery engineer's certificate. While in Sarnia he participated in hockey, baseball and softball in both the minor and senior leagues and is keenly interested in sports. (T-A photo) Two couples at convention Warden Ivan Hearn and Mr. Harold Corbett were among those who attended the four-day Good Road Convention held at Saska- toon last week, Mrs. Hearn and Mrs. Corbett accompanied them. Mr. and Mrs. Hearn went on as far as Banff sightseeing while Mr. and Mrs. Corbett went as far as Victoria. They visited the Jack Young family at Vancouver and Mrs. John Blair in Calgary. (Mr. Blair is still in a nursing home). Services for Exeter native John Addison Ryden, 48, of Elginfield, died suddenly at North Bay Friday October 1. The body rested in the C. Has- kett & Son Funeral Home, Lucan, until Monday morning, then to the Downs & Son Funeral Home, Hep- worth, where the Rev. Jack Car- bert of the Hepworth United Church conducted funeral ser- vices Tuesday October 5 at 2pm. Interment was in Zion Cemetery. Pall-bearers were all Hepworth friends. He is survived by his wife, the former Laurine Atchison of El- ginfield, one son, Jim Rydall, one daughter Bobbye (Mrs. Frank Van Praet), both of Elginfield. Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ryden, he was born in Exeter. Prior to coming to Elgin- field 17 years ago to operate the tile yard he lived at Shallow Lake. He was a member of the Metro- politan United Church, London. Explorers hold regular meet The Lucan-Clandeboye Ex- plorers held their 4th Expedition in the UC schoolroom last Monday eve. After the opening Nancy Young read her research on Eliz- abeth Fry and Julie Henderson read hers on Edith Cavell. Buttons were brought in and gifts for the port workers to give to new immigrants. Cotton and plastic bags 8" x 10" were given out to be sewn, to be also given to immigrants, Joan Donaldson led in a game. Auxiliary will enter two teams President, Mrs. A. E. Reilly presided for the Legion Auxiliary meeting in the Legion Hall, last Tuesday. Nov. 16 was the date set for beginning of figure skating which LEVI DARLING Family dinner marks birthday Sunday Mrs. Cecil Armitage entertained with a family dinner in honor of her father, Mr. Levi Darling's 80th birthday. The table was centred with a three-tier birthday cake, Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Willis Darling and family and Mr. and Mrs. Morris Darling and family of London and Mr. and Mrs. Ross Schram and family of Arkona. Mr. Levi Darling was born on the 16 concession of McGillivray Township, five miles south of Parkhill and farmed in the town- ship until his wife's death in 1962, Since then he has made his home in Lucan with his daugh- ter, Mrs. Armitage and family. will again be sponsored by the auxiliary. It was decided to enter two bowling teams in the Exeter La- dies Auxiliary Tournament to be held November 3. A donation of $10 was voted to the CNIB. Mrs. Lloyd Mason accepted the position of first vice-president, to replace Mrs. Jim Burt, who has moved to Trenton.
