Two appeals for the lowering of
assessment were denied by the
Hensall court of Revision held
prior to the regular meeting of
council last week. Appeals by Stan
Legion auxiliary
visits veterans
President Mrs. Roy Smale
chaired the October meeting of
the Legion Ladies Auxiliary held
Tuesday evening in the Legion
Hall, when plans were outlined
for catering to a wedding in
October, and the entertaining of
veterans in Westminster Hos-
pital to commemorate the 15th
anniversary of the Auxiliary,
Thursday, October 7. Members
motored to London and enter-
tained the veterans with a period
of bingo with prizes awarded,
and presented gifts to the two
adopted veterans, and served
lunch.
Mrs. Harold Thiel won the
guessing contest and Mrs. E.R.
Davis, the attendance draw.
Members will canvass for the
CNIB in October.
Bingo was played and lunch
served.
WMS plan meet
at Seaforth
President Mrs. Earl Campbell
chaired the WMS meeting of Car-
mel Presbyterian Church, when
plans were made to attend the
thankoffering meeting of the WMS
of First Presbyterita Church,
Seaforth, Thursday afternoon Oc-
tober 21.
Mrs. Robert Madge and Mrs.
John Love conducted the de-
votional assisted by Mrs. Wals.
The president reported on the
fall rally in Goderich.
At the Ladies Aid meeting
which followed plans were out-
lined for the bazaar Saturday,
November 6, in church school-
room.
Kochan and Klaus Van Wieren
were denied by the court.
Hensall council has approved
the construction of a 470 foot
sidewalk, five feet wide in front
of the public school on York
Street. The approval was given
with the provision that the coun-
cil would pay 40 per cent of this
cost which is not to exceed $1,000.
The decision was made following
a request from Ian McAllister,
representing the Township School
Area of Hay. Mr. McAllister
assured council the sidewalk
would be started next week if
the contract meets with coun-
cil's approval.

is UCW theme
Hensall UCW unit 4, held its
October meeting in Fellowship
Hall Thursday with 27 members
present.
Mrs. James McAllister opened
the meeting and read a poem on
Thanksgiving. The devotional was
given by Mrs. T. Sherritt. Miss
Greta Laramie entertained with
piano selections.
Mrs. Cross gave an inspiring
talk telling how Thanksgiving did
not come from prosperity but
from adversity and poverty. She
said ',the Pilgrim Fathers had
courage and faith and were pre-
pared to sacrifice much for their
principals and beliefs".
Mrs. McAllister conducted the
business. Two quilts were com-
pleted in September. Mdmbers
wishing to attend the South Re-
gional meeting at Crediton Oc-
tober 21 with registration 9.15 am.

Mr. E. Davis was instructed to
look into the matter of raising
sidewalks in front of the resi-
dence of Mrs.. Koehler and that
of George Moir.
Mr. Davis in his report to
council reported gravel on the
outside and fill on the inside on
Brock Street and that Mr. Thomp-
son had seeded the fill. He also
reported that crosswalks have
been painted, new stop signs
erected and four radar signs
posted. He also informed mem-
bers that a new catch basin and
a new top to a catch basin had
been installed at a cost of $51.13.
Signs have been erected to keep
people from parking on the rail-
way tracks.

Accident spills
5 tons of beans
Five tons of beans were spill-
ed on Highway 4 last Thursday
morning at 6:30 about one-half'
mile south of Hensall when a car
and a tractor pulling two wagon
loads of beans collided.
Driver of the tractor, Alfons
Kints, RR 1 Centralia, was haul-
ing beans from his farm to Hen-
sall mill when Mrs. Wanda Anne
Harris of Algonquin Drive, RCAF
Centralia, crashed the rear of
the wagons. She was taken to
South Huron Hospital for treat-
ment and was then released,
OPP Constable C. J. Mitchell
of the Exeter detachment esti-
mated damages to the vehicles
at $700, most of which was done
to the car.
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Dietrich,
Windsor , spent Thanksgiving
weekend with their relatives.
Miss Sue Hartman, London,
also Martha and Ellen Hartman
were week-end guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Alphonse Hartman.
Rev. Basil Glavin, CSB, Sud-
bury, visited his parents Mr. and
Mrs. Chas. Glavin and relatives
for Thanksgiving.

Chatham, visited their parents

of Stratford were guests of Mr.

Mr. Jack Doyle, London, spent

Many men of the parish ga-
thered Monday and with tractors
and wagons hauled wood and
stored it in the church basement
from Dietrich Bros. bush to pro-
vide winter fuel for church.
Miss Nora and Peggy and Ca-
rolyn Hall London were home
for Thanksgiving with Mr. and
Mrs. John Hall.
Officer retires
to Hensall
Flight Sergeant Johnny Link, of
Dunnville, Ontario will retire
from the Air Force after
21 years of service, For the past
two years. F/S Link has been in
charge of the Service Police de-
tachment at RCAF Station Cen-
tralia, coming from a similar
position at Camp Borden, On-
tario,
Prior to his enlistment in the
Air Force F/S Link served with
the Canadian Army Provost
Corps during the war and mar-
ried the former Anna Dijkman of
Amsterdam, Holland while serv-
ing overseas.
F/S Link will retire inliensall
with his wife and 3 daughters,
where he has taken the position
as rink manager.

retirement dinner in his honour
in the near future.

Senior WI Training School
course "Vegetables with a Flair"
was held at Hensall Legion Hall
Thursday and Friday 7 and 8.
Leaders, who taught the
course, were Miss Mary Mc-
Grath, home economic., Food
Aid Nutrition section, Ontario
Dept of Agriculture, and Miss
Dianne Liddiard, home economist
for Huron.
Two selected members from
each institute branch in South
Huron took the course and they
will in turn teach classes in
their district.

The KIPPEN KEEN KLIPPERS
held their second meeting at the
home of Mrs. Cliff Henderson,
Friday, Oct. 8.
They studied the pattern guide
and held discussions on how to al-
ter patterns and prepare ma-
terials for cutting.
The next meeting to be held at
the home of Mrs. Dave Triebner,
Friday, Oct. 15.
