LUCAN . CHURCH NEWS
Baskets of gladioli, mums and
ferns formed the setting in the
Elmwood Ave. Presbyterian
Church at 2:30 pm Saturday,
Sept. 25, for the double-ring
marriage ceremony, when the
Rev. John Fleck united in mar-
riage Ruth Ann Mullins, London,
and Walter Edwards Phillips of
Woodstock.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mullins of
Briscoe Street, London (and
granddaughter of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Henry, formerly of
Lucan) and the groom is the son
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Howard
Phillips.
Given in marriage by her father
the bride chose a floor-length
sheath gown of ligada. The tight
fitting bodice featured long lily-
point sleeves and sabrina neck-
line. Alencon lace appliques en-
hanced the front of the gown and
a detachable overskirt in ligada
formed a short chapel train at
the back. She carried a cascade
of bronze Talisman roses, ste-
phanotis and ivy,
Mrs. Allen Tindall of Wiarton
as matron of honor and Mrs.
Ron Carroll, Centralia, and Miss
Mollie Ann Donaldson of London,
as bridesmaids, were gowned
alike in gold peau de sole with
overskirts. They wore gold col-
ored net headdresses and carried
gold bronze mums and trailing
ivy.
Mr. Kenneth Phillips of London
was his brother's best man. Mr.
Len Phillips of Byron and Mr.
Wayne Carroll of Centralia were
ushers.
Mr. Egbert Vander Hoek of
London as organist, provided tra-
ditional wedding music and ac-
companied the soloist, Mr. War-
ren McLaughlin, London, who
sang the "Wedding Prayer" and
"0 Perfect Love".
New manager
Lucan arena
Mr. Ray Dobroski of Sarnia
has been engaged as arena man-
ager, of the Lucan Community
Memorial Centre.
He arrived in the village Sat-
urday Oct 2 along with his wife
and three children,
The compressor was turned
on and ice-making is now in the
process. As to when the first
skating will take place depends
on the weather. It is anticipat-
ed it will take ten days to two
weeks.
Ice rentals have been booked
ahead as previously over the
years. The oldest groups or or-
ganizations have al ways been
given the preference.
All those who have ice rented
should check hours and dates with
the new arena manager. Personal
calls would be more satisfactory
than phoning.
Mr. Dobroski would like to
meet all the leaders of various
organizations, coaches and man-
agers of hockey teams, as soon
as possible.
Loses fingers
while combining
Mr. Allan Ryan, who lives
just south of Lucan, lost two
fingers of his left hand, while
combining beans on his farm
last Wednesday. The back of
his hand was also badly scraped.
His nephew, Tommy Ryan was
working near him, and heard his
call for help and went to his
assistance. Dr. C. H. George of
Lucan was called, and the injured
man was rushed to St. Joseph's
Hospital, London, where he will
probably have to remain for the
next three or four weeks.
At a reception held at the
Administration Banquet Hall,
Queen's Park, London, the
bride's mother received in a
spruce green waffle-weave en-
semble, with black accessories
and bronze Talisman roses.
For a honeymoon trip to Nor-
thern Ontario, the bride donned
a midnight blue wool suit with
black accessories and corsage
of pink sweetheart roses.

home in London.
