mas Ross MacMillan, was bap-

Large congregations attended
anniversary services in Chilsel-
hurst United Church Sunday at
2:30 and 7:30 pm. Special speaker
for the afternoon was Mr. Harvey
Sparling, Toronto.
The Misses Beth and Verna
Christie and Joan Dow from Roy's
United Church contributed a num-
ber "Whispering Hope" and the
choir under direction of Mrs.
Alfred Ross sang.
For his evening sermon topic
Rev. C. H. Parke, of Wesley
Willis United Church, Clinton,
spoke on the subject "Keep the
channels clear". Miss Ruth Cole-
man and Miss Pat Harris sang
a duet "Heavenly Love". Rev.
H. F. Currie, minister of the
church, assisted.
Pot luck supper
for new building
A pot luck supper preceded the
UCW meeting in Hensall United
Church, Monday evening, in
charge of Unit 1, with Mrs. R.
Reaburn as leader. Following
the supper Mrs. B. F. Currie
directed community singing.
Mrs. J. Goddard was palmist.
Mrs. Reaburn gave a vivid and
informative report on the Lead-
ers Training School at Alma
College in August, which she at-
tended, where so many interest-
ing things happened that it was
very worthwhile.
One of the speakers, an archi-
tect, had slides to show of build-
ings of India, and said "the day
of sending missionaries solely
to preach the gospel is past;
missionaries to India are not
welcome." "Should we as UCW
members be interested in 'Why
The Sea• is Boiling Hot?' We
. should be informed and let our
feelings be known." Mrs. Rea-
burn said.
Mrs. Currie, president, thank-
• ed Mrs. Reaburn for such a fine
report, and took charge of the
business. The treasurer reported
the allocation had been met for
the third quarter. Mrs. Walter
Spencer gave words of apprecia-
tion to the ladies who helped
make the drapes for rooms up-
. stairs and downstairs of the new
Christian Education building.
This was a big undertaking. She
also expressed appreciation for
the committee in charge of re-
ception and dedication of the
Christian Education building, in-
cluding the social functions com-
mittee, and all women working
behind the scenes. "This will go
down in the church records,"
she said.
Mrs. C. Christie, leader of
The Messengers reported that
the children had voted on and pre-
sented a gift of six trays and
12 dozen salt and pepper sets,
for the new kitchen.
Among gifts that were dedicat-
ed on Sunday was a clock from
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Corbett in
memory of their little daughter,
Kimberley.
Mrs. Stanley Mitchell report-
ed for the supply committee. It
was decided to send $40 to the
depot to help pay shipping charges
on overseas relief clothing. A
layette is requested, to be sent
in to Mrs. Alton,Presbyterial
supply secretary y November 1.
October 21 the Regional Rally
is to be held in Crediton United
Church. The highlight will be an
addreSs by Miss Fern Scruton,
missionary from Japan.
The next general meeting will
be Monday evening October 25
at 8;30 when Dr. McMaster will
bring his pictures of Brazil, the
country under study by UCW.
The annual bazaar is scheduled
for Saturday, November 27.
An impromptu skit "United
we finance, think before you do
not give," was put on by eight
members of the unit. Mrs. Roger
Venner contributed several read-
ings.
The devotional prepared by
Mrs. MoNaughton and assisted
by Mrs. spencer, was on steward-
ship and the Parables.
