Minister of Agriculture's daughter weds
Lighted candelabra, baskets of
white gladioli and mums, backed
with a foliage arch formed the
setting in the Wesley United
Church, London Township, at 2
pm Saturday, August 14 for a
double ring ceremony, when the
Rev. G. H. Merkley united in
wedlock Marilyn Edythe Stewart
and Charles Thomas Jenken.
The bride is the daughter of
the Hon, and Mrs. William A.
Stewart, RR 2 Denfield and the
groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Frank E. Jenken of RR 7
London.
Given in marriage by her fath-
er, the bride chose afloor-length
gown of silk sheer over tulle and
bridal taffeta. Styled on an empire
line, the fitted bodice of heavy
guipure lace had a scoop neck-
line and short sleeves. The skirt
with a princess line front, a full
bouffant back app 1 i qu e d with
matching lace, fell into a flowing
chapel train. A head piece of
tiny roses and leaves of match-
ing material, adorned with pearls
held her four tier veil of im-
ported silk illusion. She carried
a cascade of orange Delight roses
and stephanotis.
The bride was attended by three
sisters, Miss Norma as maid of
honor and Misses Barbara and
Gay as bridesmaids. The third
bridesmaid was Miss LyndaJen-
ken of RR 17, London, All attend-
ants were gowned alike in floor-
length sheath dresses of foliage
green crepeau, fashioned on Gre-
cian lines with high empire waist-
line, bateau neckline, shor t
sleeves and back panels cascad-
ing from the shoulder to the
hemline. A matching headdress of
crepeau and tulle was formed into
a bow. They carried cascades of
orange Delight roses and white
shasta mums.
Miss Karen Alquire was flow-
er girl and Kenny Cocquyt was
ring bearer. The former wore a
floor length gown of white crystal
charm with foliage green sash
and matching headdress. She car-
ried a basket of orange Delight
roses and white shasta mums.

Ilderton was best man and Messrs
Lawrence McLaughton, Ross
Ferguson and Ralph Winslade
were ushers.
Mr. Wayne Carroll, as organ-
ist, accompanied the soloist,
Miss Sylvia Karges, of RR 2
Denfield, who sang "The Wed-
ding Prayer", "The Lords Pray-
er" and "0 Lord Most Holy".
At a reception at "The Ivan-
hoe", the bride's mother re-
ceived in an afternoon length gown
of Iridescent green, pale blue
and silver silk brocade with blue
and green tulle hat and beige ac-
cessories. She was assisted by
the groom's mother, who chose
a costume of mink colored chif-
fon over taffeta, a turquoise and
gold feathered hat and m nk
colored accessories.
For a honeymoon trip to East-
ern and Northern Ontario, the
bride donned a chanel ensemble of
bu r g and y and black brocaded
lace, black velvet hat, matching
accessories and a pink Sweet-
heart rose bud corsage.
The young couple will make
their home at 232 Oakland Ave.,
London.
The bride is a graduate of
London Teachers' College and
the groom a graduate of Ontario
Agricultural College, Guelph.
At Greenway United Church in
a setting of white gladioli, blue
mums, ferns and candelabra the
ceremony uniting in marriage
Carolyn Dianne Eagleson, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Har vey
Eagleson, RR 3 Parkhill, and
Gerald Leonard Merner, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Merrier,
RR 2 Zurich, was solemnized by
Rev. G. E. Morrow on Friday,
August 20 at '7 pm.
Miss Evelyn Curts, RR 3 Park-
hill, played the wedding music
and accompanied the soloist,
Miss Linda Hayter, Parkhill, who
sang Wedding Prayer and The
Lord is my Shepherd.
Given in marriage by her fath-
er the bride chose a gown of
Chantilly lace styled in a simple
sheath with basque fitted bodice
and lily point sleeves, The floor-
length skirt featured a three-
tiered fitted effect and a wateau
train of the lace in cathedral
length gave an elegant back de-
tail. A pearl and crystal princess
crown held her two-tier French
silk illusion veil. She carried a
cascade of red roses and steph-
anotis.
Miss Barbara Love, Toronto,
cousin of the bride, was maid of
honor wearing a street-length
sheath gown of royal blue peau
de sole with full powder blue lace
overskirt accented with a front
bow. She wore a matching flow-
er hat and carried a short cas-
cade of white miniature carna-
tions. Miss Judy Oesch, Zurich,
and Miss Helen Eagleson, sister
of the bride, were bridesmaids
and were gowned identically to
the maid of honor.
Garry Systema, Leamington,
was best man and Glen Reichert
Zurich, cousin of the groom, and
Ken Eagleson, cousin of the bride,
ushered guests.
A reception was held in the
church rooms where the bride's
mother received guests in a taupe
embossed crepe dress with brown
accessories and corsage of
bronze mums and yellow roses.
The groom's mother chose royal
blue crepe with black and white
accessories and corsage of red
roses and white mums.
For travelling in Northern On-
tario the bride donned a two-piece
suit in gold heather tones with
mink trim and corsage of gold
mums.
The couple will reside in Tor-
onto.
BRIDE FETED
Prior to her marriage the
bride was honored on several
occasions.

POT LUCK SUPPER
The CWL of St. Patrick's
Church held a pot-luck supper in
the old school last Wednesday
evening.
During the evening Mrs. Dave
Egan and Mrs. Glen Stewart (nee
Mrs. Stocks) were presented with
gifts, Following the presentation
bingo was played.
Area juveniles
are eliminated

Lucan Juveniles, were elimin-
ated from OBA playoffs here Sun-
day, August 220 The victors,
Clarkesburg Juveniles will now
travel into the Toronto area for
the playoffs.
On four occasions, the first
two men were retired but then
our competitors would start slap-
ping them through the holes for a
3 or 4 run inning.
Ernie O'Neil tossed the first
six innings for Lucan, but, still
was bothered by a torn ligament.
Ernie was tagged for 8 hits
while he managed to strike out 6.
Ken Ready came on in relief in
the 7th but he could not put out
the fire on our visitors bat, the
final score was the worst of the
season 19-5.
We were all pleased to see
a good crowd out to the game but
just could not manage to pull
that one out of the bag. Well its
good-bye for another season.
Mrs. Harold Reichert, Zurich,
at her home; Mrs. William Baker
and Mrs. Ron Turner at Green-

and Helen Brown at their home;

The neighbors of the groom
held a presentation at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Schade
and the young people of the HUB
church, Zurich, presented the
couple with a gift.
AUCTION SALE
A very large crowd attended the
auction sale, last Wednesday of
the late Mrs. George Bawden's
home and household effects,
The house was purchased by
Mr, Dwight Henderson now of
Market St,, Luean. Many antique
dealers were present.
PIGEON WINNERS
Winners in the Lucan Pigeon
Club whose birds flew fr om
Georgetown Saturday were: Jack
Hardy & Son, Miss Claudia Bar-
rett, Exeter, Jack Hardy & Son
(third and fourth) and Clarence
Hardy.
Flying from Peterboro Sat-
urday winners were: Miss Clau-
dia Barrett, Hardyholme (second
and third) and Miss B a r rett
(fourth and fifth).
Hold service
at Ingersoll
Mrs. William Newell, 78, fore
merly of Exeter, died in St,
Thomas Hospital, Sunday, August
22.
She was the former Charlotte
Edna E3ISSett end the last of her
family, She and her husband, the
late William F, Newell,. lived in
Stratford until 1938 when they
moved to. Ingersoll. Her husband
died in 1063.
Mrs. Newell was a member
of the Anglican Church in Inger-
soll and a member Of the senior
group of the Women's Auxiliary,
She was also a member of the
Ingersoll Lionettes,
She- is survived by two sons,
Edward and William Jr. both of
Ingersoll, also six grandchildren.
Miss Marion Bissett, town, is a
niece.
Funeral service was conducted
Wednesday, August 25 in St. Ja-
mes Anglican Church at 2 pm.
Burial was in Ingersoll cemetery,

ed home after spending a few days
with her daughter Birdine in De-
troit who is holidaying at present
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Alex McFalls.

spending a few days with Karen
and Gary Skinner.
