The students of Anderson school (S$ 1) came up with five firsts, two seconds and two thirds to walk off with the top honors at the sixthannualBlan- shard Township music festival held in Kirkton Friday. For their efforts they were presented with a large painting donated by British Mortgage 0, Trust Company. It was accepted on behalf of the school by the teacher, Mrs, Karen Gama.ge. Adjudicator for the day-long festive' was Dr. G. Roy Fen- wick, who commended the stu- dents and their music teachers. He said the latter group must be "whirlwinds" to accomplish so much with the youngsters. Teachers of music in the township are g. C. Harley, Al- bert Furtney and A. Jackson. The popular adjudicator, whose wit kept the youngsters. In a jovial mood throughout the program, said he didn't hear anything poor during the fes- tival. "It consisted of degrees of goodness," he explained. Centralia, Mr. & Mrs. Gerald McFalls and Mrs. Samson Mc- Falls, Exeter, Mr. & Mrs. Bill Quinton, Dianne and Mr. Alf Champion, Mr. & Mrs. Bob Wiley, Barbara and Susan, Lon- don. an 88 and this honor also fell to the Anderson school in their unison chorus rendition of Sea Roads and for their triple trio's singing of The Joy of Living. Five marks of 87 were handed out to individuals and groups. The festival was sponsored by the Kirkton Community As- sociation and was held in the United Church, with the ladies of the church providing the noon meal. Gerald Paul acted as pro- gram chairman, being relieved later in the afternoon by the festival secretary, Mrs. George WilsOn. Assistants at the fes- tival were Mrs. Ross Marshall, Mrs. Fred Switzer and Mrs. Raymond Paynter. Following are the results; Two-part chorus — No, 1,87; No. 3, 86; No, 6, 85. Frank Tomkinson BA, MA of St. Stephen's Church, Stratford, was guest preacher, with Rev. Lyle Bennett, S Th in charge of the service. Mrs. Tom Kooy was at the organ with Miss Heather Davis soloist. The church was decor- ated with spring flowers and a basket in the chancel was placed there in memory of the late Albert Smith, Centralia, by the family. The church was filled with chairs in the aisles. Messrs. Larry and Leslie Greenlee acted as servers. With Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Gill and family, Mr. & Mrs. Wilmer Harrison and Joanne of Goderich. Explorers girls sang the Grace followed by the National Anthem and a toast to the Queen. Dianne Mason extended a wel- come to all and Karen Jennison introduced the gue s ts. Neva Johnson called the roll and Joanne DesJandine proposed a toast to the mothers to which Mrs. Ethel DesJardine replied. Guest speaker was Mrs. J. Gibson of Exeter, captain of the Air Rangers who was introduced by Mrs. William Schlegel. She spoke on world friendships and better understandings. Martha Kneale thanked the speaker and Margaret Jennison, the ladies who served the banquet. Linda Miller led in a singsong and Kathy Taylor provided en- tertainment. Pins were pre- sented to graduates of CGIT and Explorers. VIEW PICS OF ENGLAND Mns. Howard Klum pp of Dashwood showed her pictures of England and Paris at the May meeting of Grand Bend WI held in the town hall Thursday, May 20. Roll call was answered by naming a flower "that starts with the first letter of your name." Each one made a cor- sage and wore it. Mrs. Garnet Patterson gave her report on the Officers' Conference in Guelph which she attended. Mrs. Ed Gill discuss- ed the motto, "The heart is a garden where thought flowers grow, the thoughts that we think are the seeds that we sow." President Mrs. Roy Morenz presided. An exchange of plant slips was held and lunch was served by Mrs. Emery Desjardine and Mrs. Raymond Kading.
