Ladies honour
Apropos of our column re-
cently on asparagus and the
admonition not to waste any of
it Mrs. Arthur Hodgins of Clan-
deboye phoned us this morning
with a very good suggestion.
Take a sharp paring knife and
peel off the outer green part all
the way around the outside of
the tougher end of the stalk. Be
sure to peel thinly as you would
a carrot. It is a little extra work
but is worthwhile for it leaves
the white centre which is quite
tender.
We tried this at the lunch hour
and it really works. Mrs. Hod-
gins also suggests it is a help
when freezing asparagus. She
gives credit for the idea to Mrs.
macintosh from whom she buys
her asparagus. Thanks to both
ladies.
For spring weddings rhubarb
mint cocktail makes a delicious
tangy punch. Its delicate pink
color and sparkling taste add
glamor to any occasion. Choose
crisp tender medium stalks
which have a pink color.
RHUBARB COCKTAIL
10 pounds rhubarb
8 to 10 cups sugar
4 quarts water
2 cups pineapple juice
1 quart gingerale

LEMONADE
Mrs. Mary Fairfield, Andrew
St., gives us a recipe for lemon-
ade syrup which she keeps in
the refrigerator all the time in
the warm weather. Warm days
will be here anytime now and
a lemon drink will be very
welcome.
2 oranges, juice and rind
4 lemons, rind of two and juice
of four
2 oz citric acid
7 cups sugar
7 cups boiling water
Stir until dissolved. Put in
large container. Let stand over-
night. Strain, bottle and refrig-
erate. To make lemonade use
2 tbl syrup to 1 cup of water
or use 1 cup syrup to 2 quarts
of water. Make up and keep
chilled.
Mary says to vary the oranges
and lemons to suit the family's
taste—use more oranges if pre-
ferred.
