KIPPEN
The Young People's anniver-
sary of St. Andrews United
Church, was held Sunday morn-
ing, May 23. The service was
conducted by Miss Gwen Hend-
rick. The scripture lesson was
read by Grant Jones, The junior
and senior choirs and a trio,
Miss Joan Sinclair, Grant and
Kenneth Jones, provided spe-
cial music.
Rev. A. Scott of Egmondville
was guest speaker and chose as
his topic "Now that I am grown up,,.
June 23 was the date an-
nounced for the ham and straw-
berry supper to be held at the
church.
Mr. & Mrs. Arnold Gack-
stetter and family of Guelph
spent Sunday with Mr. & Mrs.
Harold Jones and boys. In the
evening Mr. & Mrs. Robert
Graham of Centralia. visited.
Mr. & Mrs. Wayne Littleton
and daughter of London spent
the holiday weekend at the
homes of Mr. & Mrs. Russell
Faber and Mr. & Mrs. Ron
Littleton and family.
Mr. & Mrs. Norman Stanlake
of Exeter visited Sunday even-
ing with Mr. Robert Thomson.
Mr. & Mrs. Harvey Damm of
Walkerton visited Thursday
afternoon with Mr. & Mrs. N.
Long and on Monday Mr. Char-
les Taylor of Stoney Creek visit-

Black Knight
At the annual convention of
the Royal Black Knights held at
Brampton last week, Olive r
Jaques of Hensall was elected
Grand Master of the Royal Black
Knights of Ontario, succeeding
John Clarke, Sudbury. Two hun-
dred delegates attended from
Western Ontario.
Mr. Jaques held the office
of Deputy Grand Master for two
years prior to this appointment
and has been a Grand Lodge
member for ten years. A mon-
ster church service was held
prior to the convention attended
by 600.

At the meeting of St. Paul's
WA held at the home of Mrs.
Aidwinkle Wednesday, May 19,
reports on the annual meeting
in London were given. Mrs. T.
Lavender reported on the Huron
Diocesan Synod to which she was
a delegate.

Hensall Guide receives certificate
Lois Simmons, Hensall, was one of five girls from Huron division to receive a Gold Cord certifi-
cate at a presentation in Owen Sound, Sunday. The award is the top achievement in Guiding. The
photo above was taken when Lois received her Gold Cord at a special ceremony in Hensall some
time ago. The girls surrounding her helped light some of the candles marking significant accomp-

son. The motto written by Mrs.
Ross Sararas was read by Mrs.
James Drummond. Contests,
games and relay races for the
grandmothers were much en-
joyed.
Lunch was served by the
hostesses assisted by Mrs. E.
Whitehouse, Mrs. Jack Sinclair,
Mrs. Glenn Bell, Mrs. J. Drum-
mond, Mrs. Arthur Finlayson.
The meeting of Kippen East
Women's Institute was held at
the Legion Hall, Hensall, Wed-
nesday evening May 19 with
Mrs. Ken McKay and Mrs. Alex
McGregor as hostesses. In the
absence of the president Mrs.
Grant MacLean chaired the
meeting.
As this was grandmothers'
meeting roll call was answer-
ed by members introducing the
guest they had brought. Each
grandmother was presented
with a tulip and each gave her
grandmother's maiden name.
Reports from District Annual
held at Zurich May 18 were
given by Mrs. Wm. Gibson and
Mrs. Wm. Kyle.
Prizes for the grandmother
with the most jewellery went
to Mrs. Wm. Kyle; with most
grandchildren, Mrs. Wm. Gib-
son; with birthday nearest date
of meeting, Mrs. Jack Sinclair;
with the oddest article in her
purse, Mrs. Stewart McQueen.

pretty wedding Saturday, May
22 at 2:00 when Bonnie Jean
Foster became the bride of
Randy Alexander MacDonald in
a ceremony performed by the
Rev. G. L. Royal, amid a setting
of early summer flowers.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Foster,
Hensall, and the groom's par-
ents are Mr. and Mrs. J. H.
MacDonald, Goderich.
Given in n.arriage by her
father the bride was lovely
in a navy and white suit with
white accessories, her bridal
bouquet was red roses.

MaBon of Goderich chose a
gown of pink with accessories
in white and carried a bouquet
of white carnations. Mr. Bud

Theological Education Sunday
was the theme of the service at

Mrs. Manley Jinks received
word that her daughter Mrs.
Wm. Shupe and her daughters,
Sari and Sue-Ellen of Califor-
nia had arrived safely at Okin-
awn, which is on an island near
Japan, to rejoin Staff Sergeant
Wm. Shupe who is stationed
there. He was posted there three
months ago.
They travelled by jet which
took 15 hours after making two
stops at Hawaii and Wake Island.
Mrs. Shupe is the former
Bernice Jinks.
Local Guide
at ceremony
Members of the Girl Guides
of Canada, Huronia Area, held
their first Gold Cord Certificate
presentation Sunday, May 16, in
Owen Sound Collegiate and Vo-
cational Institute.
Thirteen Guides who earned
the Gold Cord during the past
year were presented with their
certificates by Mrs. Donal d
Gunn, Toronto, Ontario Provin-
cial Commissioner. Five of the
girls are from Huron Division
and are Joanne Cook, Goderich;
Linda Nicholson, Clinton; Glen-
da Wade, RCAF Station, Clinton;
and Lois Simmons, Hensall.
The 500 guests were welcom-
ed by the Area Commissioner,
Mrs. Parker Evans, Owen
Sound. Greetings were brought
to Girl Guides by Mr. Robert
Rutherford, Mayor of Owen
Sound. Mr. E. Sergent, MLA,
Province of Ontario, and the
Provincial Commissioner.
The color party composed of
Owen Sound Guides was in
charge of Mrs. M. Atton. A
choir of Guides from Clifford,
H ar rist on and Palmerston,
under the direction of Mrs. Burt
Dixon, deputy area commis-
sioner, presented several Guide
songs.
Miss Shirley Cameron, Tor-
onto, who has been active in
Girl Guides for several years,
was guest speaker. In her in-
teresting and entertaining ad-
dress Miss Cameron reminded
the thirteen Gold Cord Guides
that now was the time for them
to "stop, look and listen" and
then assess what they were
going to offer themselves, their
country and society.
At the conclusion of the cere-
mony a reception was held for
the Gold Cord Guides and
guests.

Rebekah Lodges of Hensall will
worship with this congregation. Friends shower
bride with gifts
Miss Dianne Koehler and
Miss Ruth Smale were joint
hostesses at the former's home
in Hensall Tuesday evening,
May 18, for a miscellaneous
shower for Miss Bonnie Foster
of Hensall, bride of Saturday,
May 22.
Some forty friends and neigh-
bours attended and presented
her with many gifts. The pre-
sentation address was read by
Miss Ruth Smale and gifts pre-
sented by Lynda, Brenda and
Betty Lyn Koehler.
Mrs. Arthur McCallum of
Kirkton contributed a huniOrous
reading. For entertainment
contests were enjoyed conduct-
ed by Miss Koehler.
