Caine time Thursday night will be 8:00. Last Friday night in Toronto a five-man OMHA committee ruled that an Exeter protest on Elmira players John Powell and James Nahrgang was valid and awarded the bantam "B" semi-final series to Exeter. The committee headed by Arthur Watkins of Peterborough, inde- finitely suspended the Elmira club which had won the total goals series by three goals. Cord Baynham and Lloyd Cushman, who were represent- ing the Exeter Minor Hockey Association at the proceedings, submitted evidence that Powell, a husky blueliner who lives closer to Milverton than to El- mira had continued to play for the Elmira club even after El- mira had received letters stat- ing that Powell was Milverton property. Nahrgang, on the other hand, had played the whole year with the Milverton team and then joined Elmira after his first club had been eliminated. The protest hearing was con- cluded in a little over an hour but the OMHA is expected to meet later on this month to determine what action should WHEN GOOD GARDENERS GET TOGETHER YOU MEET THE NICEST PEOPLE ON A HONDA Fantastic Economy: They never gulp gas ... just sip itl 250 miles per gallon. The pee wee team is entered in the Young Canada tournament at Goderich and play the first game on Tuesday morning at 8:30 against Ingersoll. The Bantams will again take in the Georgetown tournament and play their first game on Friday at 11 o'clock against Hespeler. I am sure the local boys would be glad to see as many fans as possible at these various games. * * * * The bantams will play host to Huntsville in the Ontario finals with the first game here at Exeter on Thursday at 8 pm and the return game at Hunts- ville on Tuesday at 8 pm. Exeter minor squads record sweep of titles The Exeter midgets and pee wees joined the squirts and juniors as Shamrock League Champions last week when they posted wins over Lambeth and Stoneybrook respectively. The Exeter bantams won their Shamrock title Tuesday night. See story elsewhere on this page. The pee wees, under coach Lorne Haugh and manager Lyle Riddell, took their final series two games to one with a 6-4 win before a cheering Exeter crowd at London's Treasure Island Gardens on Sunday; while the midgets under coach Frank Boyle and manager Derry Boyle edged Stoneybrook 3-2 Friday night in Lucan to take the best- of-five series three games to two. After they had won the first game of the series in overtime, the midget squad slumped and lost two of the next three only to come up with a sparkling performance and a 3-2 over- time victory on Friday on Gord Greenacre's goal at the 1:30 mark of the ten minute over- time session. Rick McDonald and Paul Ma- son scored Exeter goals in the first frame but Stoneybrook tied the score before the end of the period. From then on it was a goal- tending duel between the Stoney- brook netminder and Bill Far- quhar who played a stellar game in the Exeter cage. Both goalies stood their ground and regula- tion time ended with the two teams deadlocked at 2-2. Both teams had some good scoring chances in the opening minutes of the overtime period but it was Greenacre who finally settled the issue when he took relays from McDonald and Doug McBride and fired a 15 foot backhander into the Stoneybrook net. FANS SUPPORT Rightwinger Chris Riddell led the pee wees in the champion- ship winning game on Sunday with three goals, as the locals took a 3-2 first period lead and never looked back. There was a goodly number of Exeter supporters on hand at the Gardens to cheer the locals on as they led 5-3 at the end of the second and then traded goals in the third frame to main- tain their two goal margin. Larry Haugh scored two goals for the winners while John Guenther added a single tally. The Exeter squad registered their first victory of the series in Exeter on Wednesday with a 4-2 win. The two teams played to a 4-4 tie in the first game of the series but the homesters asserted themselves from the very start in Wednesday's con- test to win going away. Chris Riddell again paced the Exeter scoring attack with three goals while Dale Parkin fired the other Exeter marker. After their Shamrock League victory, the Lorne Haugh coach- ed crew are setting their sights on the Goderich Young Canada Week "B" division champion- ship. The tournament starts April 16 and runs all through Easter week with 87 teams from as far away as Trois Rivieres, Quebec and Winnipeg, Manitoba competing in the popular event that had to turn down a great many more entries. One of the features of this year's tourna- ment will be the playing •of the one thousandth game. It will be between St. Thomas and St. Lam- bert, Quebec on April 21. Other area pee wee clubs that are com- peting at this year's tourney will play their first games in the "D" series April 19 with Hensall meeting Kurtsville, Lucan facing Plattsville and the Zurich club playing against Unionville.
