The highlight of the program Which followed was the pictures shown by Dr. H. H. Cowen of the trip which he and Mrs. Cowen took last fall in attending the dental convention in Japan. Scenes in Japan, Hong Kong and Manila were viewed with com- mentary by Dr. Cowen. One of the highlights of the trip was meeting a Japanese girl who spent some time in Exeter with the Art Whilsmiths and who is now an air stewardess in her — Continued from page 7 brary with property improve- ments and rinks at Woodham, Kirkton and Anderson have re- ceived donations, Other projects which provide benefits for the general public are: In 1953 assuming the up- keep of the UTRCA Park, north of Kirkton which provides picnic and swimming facilities; (This project was first suggested by the late Dr. G, Jose); assisting with the installation of street lights in Woodham and Kirkton; building the permanent stage at the fair grounds for pro- grams, the sponsoring and or- ganizing of the Bianshard Music Festival in 1960; donating to the Boy Scouts for organization in 1964. The success of this organiza- tion can be directly attributed to the word co-operation; firstly the co-operation of the citizens of Kirkton, the merchants, the tradesmen who all give so freely of their time for the garden party; secondly, the generous co-operation of the press, radio and TV stations and lastly to the faithfulness of the committees in carrying out their work and the patrons who attend the Gar- den Party each third Wednesday in July. With the exception of 1950, when it rained, fair weather has favoured this event. The attendance has reached 4,000- ',000 according to the press. Do you know a lot about fertilizers? Arrowsmith MBE general secretary of the British and Foreign Bible Society in Aus- tralia, was the guest speaker at a large Bible Society rally held in the Stratford Festival Theatre. Lucan was well represented as 49 members went by bus and five drove. The bus was so filled many had to sit, three in a seat. Canon Arrowsmith gave an informative and chal- lenging address as he enlarged on the work of the Bible Society. A massed Mennonite choir, led in the music. Gospel Quartet I am sure many here tonight can recall the glow of satis- faction on Dr. Campbell's coun- tenance that wonderful July eve- .ning in 1952 as he addressed the huge audience assembled to enjoy the programs. A few months before his death in July, 1953, Dr. Campbell attended a I(CA meeting and exhorted the executive to press ever forward, to vary the pro- gram to meet the desires of even the minority. I am sure Leon Paul has endeavoured to carry out this suggestion with the appearance of such person- alities as Joey Hollingsworth, Gordy Tapp, Jack MacLean, Nancy MacCaig, Anna Russell, various skilled magicians and acrobats, with Jack Ayer's background music. Here is a quote by Browning from Dr. Campbell's last re- port; "Look up—not down; look out—not in; look forward—not back, and lend a hand. The program was closed by singing Auld Lang Syne.
