Mrs. Andrew Bell, a lifelong resident of the Kippen area, mark-
ed her 90th birthday Monday at the Queensway Nursing Home,
Hensall. She has been a resident there for the past month, Mrs.
Bell enjoys good health. She has one son, William J. F. Bell,
Kippen, and Mrs. J. E, (Etta) Stackhouse, London; five grand-
children and five great-grandchildren; also one sister, Mrs.
E. E. Deyell, Toronto. Her husband predeceased her in 1953.

Former resident
is accountant
Don Kyle, who has been on
the staff of the Bank of Montreal
at Oakridge Acres, London, has
received his first appointment
as accountant and has been
transferred to the Bank of Mon-
treal at Markham Road & Paint-
ed Post Drive, Scarborough,
and commenced his duties im-
mediately.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Byran Kyle of Hensall.

The Kippen East WI meeting
was held at the home of Mrs.
Ross Sararas Wednesday even-
ing, March 17, co-hostess be-
ing Mrs. James Drummond.
Mrs. Van Rooijen gave an
interesting talk on her native
Holland, its climate, social se-
curity, sick benefits, farming,
the war years and Christmas
customs. She gave a resume of
her trip to Canada and their
establishment here.
Mrs. Robt. Gemmell intro-
duced the guest speaker, Miss
Gladys Thompson of Seaforth,
who spoke on her Europeantour
to Holland, Belgium, Germany,
Austria, Italy, France, Norway,
Sweden, Denmark, Spain, Port-
ugal and the British Isles. She
stressed the carefree abandon
with which the people enjoy
themselves. Mrs. Arthur Fin-
layson chaired this part of the
meeting.
The roll call was answered
by suggestions for the instruc-
tion of our children so that
they may become better citi-
zens.
Irish songs were sung to
celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
Mrs. Robt. Bell read comments
on the motto, "The Canada we
enjoy was not brought to na-
tionhood by timid citizens"
which was prepared by Miss
Margaret McKay.

Bishop G. Emmett Carter of
London officiated at the Con-
firmation class in Our Lady of
Mt. Carmel Church last Friday
evening when 86 students were
confirmed from most Precious
Blood school of Exeter, St.
Peter's mission parish, and Mt.
Carmel schools.
Rev. Fr. James Kelly PP
introduced Bishop G. E. Carter,
bishop of London diocese, and
welcomed him on his first visit
since being appointed to this
diocese.
Later in the evening Bishop
Carter blessed the two new
rooms recently opened as an
addition on the school.

District Deputy Grand Mas-
ters night for Huron Lodge
AF & AM 224 was held in the
Lodge Hall Monday night when
Alvin Earl Campbell of Hensall
was initiated into membership
which was rather unique, his
father Roy Campbell being Mas-
ter and his grandfather Earl
Campbell, Past Master, taking
part in the initiation, this being
three generations in the Lodge.
This was also the official visit
of Rt. Wor. Bro. Gordon Short-
reed, DDGM of Clinton. The
meeting was well attended. Good sale

a few days visiting their aunt

Mrs. Blighton Ferg is a pa-
tient in South Huron Hospital,
Exeter.
Car skids,
one injured
An accident on Mill Street,
Hensall, Saturday between the
hours of 1 and 2 am caused
$1,200 property damages and
hospitalized a passenger in the
car which was involved in the
accident. The driver was James
Smith RR 3 Zurich and his
passenger Leo Creces, RR 2
Zurich.
Smith was travelling west on
Mill street when he applied his
brakes to make a turn onto Well-
ington street when his car went
into a broadside skid on the
icy road causing him to lose
control and smash into the Cook
Bros. Milling Company office on
the east side of the building
causing $200 damages.
Both men received facial lac-
erations and were taken to the
office of Dr. J. C. Goddard by
Chief of Police E. R. Davis, who
investigated, and then taken to
South Huron Hospital, Exeter,
for stitches. Smith was released
but Crecesremained in the hos-
pital. Damages to the car were
estimated at $1,000.
Eight enrolled
in Brownies
Eight new Brownies, Karen
Kyle, Brenda Gass, Linda Beer,
Nancy Stretton, Debbie Smith,
Cindy Parker, Judith Mickle
and Anne Knight were received
into the Hensall Brownie Pack
last Tuesday. Mrs. Tom Lav-
ender, District Guide Commis-
sioner, enrolled the Brownies
in a ceremony arranged by
Tawny Owl, Mrs. Rodger yen-
ner.
She also presented Golden
Hands to Catherine AnneChris-
tie and Dorothy Skea and Golden
Bars to Bonnie Sangster, Pam-
ela Mickle and Kay Davis. Se-
veral Brownies received pro-
ficiency badges.
Following the enrollment
Mrs. Lavender took the Brown-
ies on an imaginary trip to
Hampton Court Palace in Eng-
land to visit the World Chief
Guide Lady Baden Powell. A
singing game under the direc-
tion of Snowy Owl, Mrs. Bar-
rie Jackson, was enjoyed by
mothers and Brownies.
The meeting came to an end
with the presentation of wings
to Catherine Anne Christie and
Dorothy Skea and they were re-
ceived into the Guide Company
by Captain Mrs. Robert Baker.

funeral of the former's uncle,

Tuesday.
UCW discusses
cowardice theme
Twelve members attended the
Chiselhurst UCW meeting. Pre-
sident Mrs. Harold Parker
opened with a poem and Mrs.
Jack Brintnell led the worship
service based on"Cowardice".
She was assisted by Mrs. T.
Brintnell and Mrs. Percy Har-
ris who also gave a chapter
from the study book on "Trini-
dad". Mrs. A. Ross and Mrs.
Harold Currie sang the National
Anthem of Trinidad.
During the business period
the group decided to buy Easter
lilies for the church, and also
accepted an invitation to visit
Thames Road April 7. A com-
mittee was appointed to look
into obtaining a speaker for
entertaining in May. New flags
are to be purchased for the
Honor Roll. Following the bene-
diction a pot luck dinner and
quilting was the order of the
day.

has been convalescing in South
Huron Hospital for the past
number of weeks, returned to
her home Saturday.
