Guest speaker was Mrs. Ron
Wilson of Zurich for the home
economics and health meeting
of Hensall WI held in the Legion
Hall last Wednesday evening
March 10,
She spoke on "The Purchase
committee to bring in a slate
of officers at the April meeting.
Members are requested to have
their reports ready to be pre-
sented at that meeting.
Mrs. Broderick and Mrs.
Beer were appointed to repre-
sent the Hensall branch on the
committee for the International
Plowing Match to be held in

Hensall Kinette Club meeting
was held Wednesday evening
March 10 at the home of Mrs.
Bob Baker Jr. with three guests
from Clinton, Kinette Club pre-
sident Mrs. Bill Fink, Mrs.
Rhea Jones, and Mrs. Mary
Jean Beattie. They were wel-
comed by president Mrs. John
Baker who presided.
Mrs. Baker reminded the
Kinettes of the annual Zone D
Inter-Club meeting in Port Do-
ver April 27. Date for the
spring rummage sale was set
for Saturday, May 15.
Shut-in visits will be made
Sunday, April 4, an annual pro-
ject of the club. The raffle
was won by vice,president Mrs.
Wm. Fuss.
Next meeting will be held at
the home of Mrs. Harold Cald-
well. Games were enjoyed dur-
ing the social portion of the

UCW unit 1 met at the church
Monday evening March 15 at
8 pm and from there spent an
hour visiting some of the shut-
ins of the village including pa-
tients at Queensway Nursing
Home. They presented them
with treats, then returned to
the church for devotions and
business.

Passes tests
with honors
Miss Carol Brown, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. William Brown,
Seaforth, (formerly of Hensall),
has received word that she has
successfully passed with honors
her Associate Solo Performers
examinations in piano from both
the Royal Conservatory of Mu-
sic, Toronto and Western Con-
servatory of Music, London.
Miss Brown, Who has been
studying music since she was
five years of age, is the organ-
ist of First Presbyter'ian
Church, Seaforth and the pianist
for the Junior Farmers Choir.
She has a large class of piano
students in Seaforth.
She has played at the Strat-
ford Kiwanis Music Festival
every year since she started
her musical career and re-
ceived many prizes and schol-
arships there.

onto spent the weekend with her
sister Mrs. Pearl Shaddick.
Mr. & Mrs. Bill Fink and
Cat nipped of tonsils
Tim, a large Tiger cat shown with his owner, Mrs. Pearl Pass-
more, used up one of his nine lives last week. However, due to a
successful tonsilectomy he is recuperating satisfactorily. About
a week ago, Tim was unable to eat and was in serious condition
and so his owner took him to the Zurich Veterinary Hospital
where the diagnosis revealed inflamed tonsils. These were
removed and the cat was discharged from hospital in a much
improved condition. Tim also had his teeth cleaned as a large
layer of tartar on his rear dentures was believed to be also
impeding his eating. --T-A photo

Mrs. Isabelle Bell, a patient
at Queensway Nursing Home,
Hensall, formerly of Kippen
will Monday, March 22 cele-
brate her 90th birthday, and
will spend the day celebrating
with members of her family at
Kippen.

in memory of Mrs. Thomas
Slavin, placed there by the fam-
ily.

Ladies finish
sixteenth quilt
Chiselhurst UCW have spent
many busy days at the church
quilting and in about a week will
have completed quilting 13 large
quilts and three crib quilts.
Some of the large ones are
custom and some will be for-
warded in the bale to Toronto
for overseas relief. Mrs. Har-
old Parker was convenor of the
project.
CARMEL REDECORATED
Communion service was con-
ducted in Carmel Presbyterian
Church Sunday by Rev. John C.
Boyne BA BD. The choir sang an
anthem under the direction of
Mrs. Beatrice Hess, organist.
Services were held in the church
sanctuary which has been newly
decorated with new lighting in-
stalled and a new floor which
presents a fine appearance.

Carmel meeting
The meeting of Carmel Pres-
byterian WMS was held Thurs-
day afternoon in the church
school room with 14 present.
President Mrs. Earl Campbell
opened the meeting. The devo-
tion was led by Mrs. R. A. Orr
assisted by Mrs. John Soldan.
A skit "Through the Years"
was presented and roles por-
trayed by seven ladies, Mrs.
Harvey Hyde, Mrs. John Love,
Mrs. Robert Madge, Mrs. Clar-
ence Volland, Mrs. Earl Camp-
bell, Mrs. Orr, Mrs. Ed Munn.
The April meeting is to be
held in the evening at 8:15
April 12.

SPEAKS ON STAMPS
Mr. Charles M i ck 1 e, who
teaches High School in Hamil-
ton, was guest speaker in Lon-
don Tuesday night of this week
at a meeting of the London Phil-
atelic Society.
He gave a talk on the war-
time postal history of Papua
and New Guinea illustrated with
covers from his collection.
Charles won several medals,
prizes and honor certificates
last year for his stamps entered
at stamp exhibitions in Canada.
PLAN EASTER MEETING
The Arnold Circle of Carmel
Presbyterian Church met in the
church school rooms Monday
evening with president Mrs.
Gordon Schwalm presiding.
Program and worship was
taken by Mrs. Bey Beaton and
Mrs. Al Scholl, following the
World Day of Prayer Service
for their worship. Mrs. Gerald
Bell read a missionary letter.
It was decided to invite the
WMS of the church to the Easter
meeting and Rev. J, C. Boyne
be asked to speak.
Mrs. John Skea closed the
meeting and lunch was served
by Mrs. John Baker and Mrs.
Trevor Wilson.
