At the request of the Ontario
Department of Education this
company undertook to perform
week, the board learned they
could receive as much as $100,-
000 through the Municipal
Works Assistance program, but
this type of assistance may not
be available in the future.
Main enticement for the as-
sistance through the program
is the fact 25% of the loan is
actually "'forgiven" and the re-
mainder is loaned at very rea-
sonable interest rates.
Those involved appear in
agreement that the entire job
could be done cheaper now than
proceeding in two operations.
It has already been established
that the old building will have to
fan McAllister, chairman of
the Hay Township school area
board, reported this week the
board appear to be in agreement
to rip down the old four-room
section of the Zurich school and
erect four new classrooms in
their place,
This would be done in con-
junction with the present plan
to erect two new classrooms
and a playroom at the site.
Main reason for the thinking
that it would be wise to replace
the 50-year-old structure is
based on economics, McAllister
explained.

be rebuilt at a future date,
Added to thin is the fact the
planned two-room addition was
going to be costly due to the
considera.ble renovations re-
quired in the present heating
system and other facilities to
handle the new portion.
Costs would probably be cut
farther if all services were
installed at one time and ie
the full building contract could
be finished without calling tend-
ers and moving in contractors
twice.
McAllister indicated the
board would be getting prices
on demolishing the old build-
ing and a decision on the mat-
ter would be made in the near
future.
If the plans are instituted,
it would give Zurich an eight-
room school, plus the pl ay
room. There would be six new
classrooms constructed in the
project, and the other two are
those erected about eight years
ago, These of course would be
left intact.
