4 Kinds of Mattresses
4 Kinds of Sleep Sauble Queen Basic
This is our most famous SAUBLE QUEEN and our most popular—because
it's the one we started out with. We believe it's the best value anywhere for
the money. It costs less than other mattresses yet it has equal quality or
even better. It features Bonnell springs in a tough, durable construction for
many years of comfortable sleep. And it's priced as low as we can make it.
BONNELL SPRING
$49.50
There's a corner spring as a strong 'anchor, There's
end springs that hold their place. And edge springs to fight
people who sit on edges of beds. There's shoulder to knee
springs for support of the 'heaviest part of the body. And
so on. They're all demonstrated in a miniature mock-up you
can see at Hopper-Hockey.
Four years ago we approached a noted manufacturer
of hospital and hotel mattresses to see if we could market
such a mattress in South Huron. With some alterations to
adapt the mattress to the home, we introduced it with con-
siderable success in 1963. We ran a contest, you'll remem-
ber, to pick a name for it and Mrs. Ravi Ratz, RR 2 Dash-
wood came up with SAUBLE QUEEN. We've been selling the
SAUBLE QUEEN exclusively ever since. We're very proud of the spring structure that goes
into the SAUBLE QUEEN. You know, it takes 40 minutes
to custom 'assemble each spring unit — to just piece the
springs together. These springs have been put through
1,540,000 compressions and still going strong. Sauble Queen Firm Earlier this winter we redesigned the SAUBLE
QUEEN to make it more of a specialist, Now we can intro-
duce four different SAUBLE QUEENS for four different pur-
poses. No duplicate mattress is available at any other store
under any name. Our therapeutic spring with greater coil count for a much firmer sleep.
We do not believe that coil count is the main concern in evaluating a spring
mattress. Canadian Homes Magazine brought this point out last September
in a thorough-going article on mattresses. (We have a copy for your in-
terest). But many people do prefer a firmer support beneath them than
others. For these people we offer the SAUBLE QUEEN FIRM with its higher
Bonne!l spring coil count and costlier construction.

discussing earlier. It gives a most restful night, particularly when husband
and wife are greatly different in weight. The spring construction prevents
roll-together by distributing disproportionate body weights for an even sup-
port. There's a 260 coil count. And for an extra bonus, there's a foam top-
ping to give surface softness not found in common mattresses.
We believe we have quite a story to tell. Since most
mattresses in Canada are 16 to 18 years old we believe there
is a healthy market for new mattresses for tired people.
Like the car, the most important part of a mattress
is hidden from the eye—that's the springs, those important
coils that make a mattress work. Just as there are various
kinds of car engines, principally the straight 6 and the V8,
there are various kinds of springs, principally the Bonnell
and the Karr type. And just as a good car dealer features a
variety for different tastes and purposes, we do too.
The Bonnell spring is an older design, good in qual-
ity, low in price. It does the job. We at Hopper-Hockey can
show you one; we can show you how it is bound at each end
to 'itself, 'and how it is assembled into the mattress.
KARR SPRING
$69.50
Sauble Queen SpineAligner We also feature the Karr spring, a spring we are
pleased with because it incorporates new design priniciples
only now coming to limited use. It features a free-end spring
attached only to the mattress frame. This gives it double
action. It adjusts to a gentle pressure at the top without the
whole spring being brought into play. And it adjusts in the
centre when a great weight is pressed to it. Double action--
a more responsive spring.
We're delighted with this Karr spring because now a
heavy 'husband and a light spouse can both sleep in equal
comfort. The spring adjusts to them, not them to the spring.
Because different parts of the mattress take a differ-
ent type of load, we asked for and got nine different varia-
tions of spring for nine different parts of the bed.
And this is our mattress for those who are having back troubles. If you
are in this unfortunate group and need extra care for your back, this mat-
tress will do wonders for you. It has 308 coils of a half gauge heavier steel
in the wonderful Karr construction. If a bad mattress is the cause of your
back aches then this mattress could well be a help to correcting the prob.
lem. It's new and we're proud of it.
KARR, LEFT AND BONNELL SPRINGS
When you realize you spend one-third of each day,
every day in your life either sleeping or resting on a bed,
that's a lot of abuse, far more than almost any other ap-
pliances in the home. And when the best mattresses are
built to take 12 years of this, it's a wonder they cost as little
as they do.
Of course, the springs are not the end of 'a fine mat-
tress. There is also the quilting that finishes the unit and
acts as an insulation for the springs. The quilting is what
gives the surface softness of a good mattress and leaves it
pretty and presentable. But beware, when you buy a mattress,
that you are not fooled by the ticking or quilting, It's what's
inside the mattress that counts.
KARR SPRING $79.50
ED OSBORNE
We suggest when you come in, that you do more than jab at our mattresses
with your fists. Take your coat off, kick off the shoes and lie down for five
minutes. This is the only sensible way to guage how a mattress will perform at
home. For this reason we are also offering during
We also suggest that you not consider putting a new mattress on an old box
spring. Box springs last no longer than mattresses. They are made for each
other. That's because the box spring takes on 40% of your weight. It's a sure
way to ruin a new mattress, by putting it on a worn out and mismatched box
spring.
And after you've bought your SAUBLE QUEEN, take good care of it. Turn
the new mattress end-to-end and upside down every two weeks for the first four
months or so, to let it adjust evenly and smoothly to your body weight. Turn It
four times a year after that, to give uniform weight to each side. Turn the box
spring end-for-end occasionally for maximum wear. Never bend or fold a
mattress. And never, never use it as a chair or stand on it.
