Seeks Stratford crown
Representing Perth Mutual Fire Insurance Company, Bonnie
Foster, formerly of Hensall, is one of the eight contestants for
the Snow Queen title in the Stratford Winter Carnival, which con-
cludes this weekend. The 18-year-old miss was named queen
of the Zurich fair last year. Crowning of the Stratford Queen
takes place Friday night.

BEGIN NEW STUDY
The Pinery unit of the UCW
met Monday evening at the home
of Mrs. Douglas Dawe, with
11 members present. The meet-
ing opened with a short Bible
study.
The book "God's Frozen Peo-
ple" was introduced by Mrs.
Emery DesJardins. The unit
chose Rev. and Mrs. T. C.
Edmonds, of Brazil as its mis-
sionaries for prayer.

UCW unit 4 held Thursday after-
noon with an article "On dis-
covering what God is Like".

day evening, Feb. 3 and finalized
plans for the 16th annual birth..

Twenty members from this
lodge attended the official visit
to Goderich Lodge Tuesday,
Feb. 2, of the Assembly Pre-
sident Mrs. Jessie Hillier of
Niagara Falls, and five mem-
bers attended a banquet at Exe-
ter Wednesday night in honor of
the Assembly President's visit
to Pride of Huron Lodge, Exe-

to hold euchre
Sixteen members attended the
February meeting of Hensel].
Legion Ladies Auxiliary with
president Mrs. Roy Smale con-
ducting the meeting.
Plans were made for a tea
and bake sale in the Legion Hall
Saturday Feb. 13 at 3 pm and to
hold a euchre once a month, the
next one to be held February 26.
A motion was passed to dis-
continue the 50-50 draw and
$25 was voted to the Bursary
Scholarship fund.
Mrs. Roy Smale was winner
of the 50-50 draw, and Mrs.
Garnet Allan won both guessing
and mystery prizes.
Guide leaders
discuss camp
Huron Division second an-
nual Guider's dinner and camp
committee meeting was held in
St. Paul's Anglican Church,
Hensall, Wednesday evening
February 3, with 37 present.
Reports showed that 18
Brownies, 110 Guides and five
Rangers in Huron camped in
1969, with 16 guiders, eight
junior leaders, and one non-
Guide on staff.
Mrs. Joyce Irwin of Clinton
and Mrs. Beth Walker of RCAF
Centralia were presented with
Camper licences. One pack
holiday certificate and four
camperaft certificates were
also earned in the Division last
Year.
Camp training dates were set
for Thursday and Friday of Eas-
ter week.
Zurich couple
50 years wed
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Flaxbard
of Zurich who celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary Wed-
nesday held "Open House" at
the home of their son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Earl
Flaxbard on Sunday.
They were the recipients of
gifts, cards, flowers and mes-
sages of congratulations, and
presented with a corsage from
their grandchildren, a lamp and
serving tray from their family.
Mrs. Flossie Staubue of Lon-
don, bridesmaid of fifty years
ago, attended the celebration.
A family dinner was also held.
UCW study Brazil,
hear plea for mitts

The purchase of a projector
was discussed at the February
meeting of Greenway UCW held
at the home of Mrs. Cecil
Smithers. More information is
to be brought to the March
meeting and a decision made
then.
Mrs. Harold Pollock gave a
summary of the study book on
Brazil. The worship service
was taken by Mrs. Jim Eagle-
son Jr. and Mrs. Pollock.
President Mrs. L. Curts con-
ducted the business. The "Tale
of a Bale" was read by supply
secretary, Mrs. Smithers. The
World Day of Prayer is to be
held March 5.
Special projects for the year
are a strawberry supper, bake
sale and envelopes for donations
in place of the annual turkey
supper. A social time concluded
the meeting.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry W. Hor-
ton celebrated their 45th wed-
ding anniversary with a small
dinner party at the Commercial
Hotel, Hensall, Saturday eve-
ning February 6 and were the
recipients of many lovely gifts,
cards, congratulatory mes-
sages, also message s from
England. A social hour was
enjoyed following a turkey din-
ner,

bors called Sunday to offer
felicitations and enjoy a cup
of tea with them.

from the Auxiliary of the Child-
ren's Aid Society of Huron
County. There are 104 needy
families with well over 300
children and they want each
child, to have a pair of new py-
jamas and a pair of mitts for
next Christmas. They also re-
quire baby sets, The project
"Christmas Stocking" brought
in $86.00 last year.
It was announced that the
quilting will commence Wed-
nesday, Feb. 10 with a pot luck
dinner. Mrs. Flynn is convener
of this project. Mrs. McAllister
gave interesting highlights from
"The Observer" Questions and
discussion period proved very
enlightening. A cup of tea was
served.

hold box social
The Hensall-Chiselhurst
Young People met together in
the Hensall United Church on
Sunday and Dave Brock and h i s
group were in charge of the
meeting.
Eric Ross, Nancy Kyle, Joan
Simmons and Dave Pyette took
part in the devotional. Special
guest from Chiselhurst was Mr.
Ross Kercher who led a dis-
cussion on the book by Dr.
Norman Vincent Peel, "The
Power of Positive Thinking".
Eric Ross had a game for the
young people. A feature of the
evening was a box s o c ial.
Everyone enjoyed themselves
and it proved to be a lot of fun.
