One of Dashwood's elder citi-
zens, Mrs. Mary Martene, cele-
brated her 88th birthday Mon-
day, January 18, This active
lady not only prepared her own
meals as usual but shovelled
the walks as well.
Visitors for the occasion
were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hern
of Zion, Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Tiernan of LondOn, Mr. and Mrs.
Cliff Salmon and family, Gerald
Martene and Peter.
LWML MEETING
The quarterly LWML (Luth-
eran Women Missionary Lea-
gue) meeting was held Wednes-
day, January 13. Rev. Wm.
Gatz discussed the topic taken
from the Quarterly, "A Beach-
head for Missions".
The president, Mrs. Ken Kel-
ler, dealt with the business.
This involved work of the past
year and suggested projects for
the new year, among which were
bandages for mission hospitals,
the making of a quilt to be
donated, and saving st amp s
again.
The president of the Ladies
Aid, Mrs. Leonard Schenk, was
present and brought to the atten-
tion of the ladies some neces-
sary matters. Epiphany family
night will be held February 5,
with all groups in the church
contributing numbers for the
program.
Limited quilting will be done.
Group 3 with Mrs. Lloyd Rader
convenor served lunch.
HONOR WORKERS
Sunday School teachers of
Zion Lutheran Church and the
Bible school teachers along with
the superintendent, Albert Mil-
ler, and the elders and their
wives were treated to a supper
by Zion congregation in thanks
for their services during the
past year. A brief business
session followed the meal.

Marie Amacher of Dashwood,
passed away at Victoria. Hos-
pital, London, following a brief
illness, Sunday, January 17.
Surviving are her husband;
one daughter, (Nona) Mrs. Hugh
Fletcher, London; one sister,
(Emma) Mrs. William Schroe-
der, Detroit, three step-broth-
ers, Arthur, Simon, and Otto
all of Dashwood.
Funeral service was held
from the Evans funeral home,
Hamilton Road, Tuesday, with
interment in Forest Lawn Mem-
orial Gardens, London.

LIBRARY MEETING
The annual library meeting
was held Saturday, January 16.
Reports showed a successful
year with many new books added
to the library. There were 19
adult readers and 58 juveniles
with a circulation of 2058.
The librarian, Mrs. Ernest
Koehler was engaged with a
salary increase. Auditors will

A letter was received from
the girl in Rome, AciciaZarsati,
which Clandeboye WI with two
branches is sponsoring. Mrs.
Karl O'Neil reported on taking
a Christmas basket to a member
in South Huron Hospital.
Mrs. Kestle won the hostess
prize. Mrs. O'Neil demonstrat-
ed a fancy dessert. Assisting
the hostess were Mrs. Rae
Neil, Mrs. Andy Carter and
Mrs. David Henry.

PLAN DAY OF PRAYER
The Crediton UCW meeting
was held in the Sunday School
rooms Thursday, Jan. 14, with
a good attendance.
The worship was led by Mrs.
Robert Reid assisted by Mrs.
M. Baker, Mrs. Clifford Kenney
and Mrs. Lorne Preszcator.
The study book on the life
of the people of Trinidad was
taken by Mrs. Ed Lamport.
The installation of the new
officers was conducted by Rev.
R. Hiltz followed by the yearly
reports from the various com-
mittees. The finance committee
explained their budget and re-
viewed their suggestions for
raising funds.
The date for the World Day
of Prayer is set for March 5.
Mrs. Clifford Kenney and Mrs.
Robert Reid were named to
meet with ladies of EUB to
complete plans for this Day of
Prayer. The date set for the
congregational meeting was set
for February 3. The members
were asked to save used nylons.

The congregational meeting
for Whalen United Church was
held Tuesday evening with Rev.
D. M. Guest as chairman. Gor-
don Johnson was appointed sec-
retary.
Reports from various organi-
zations were given. The amount
for 1964 raised by all Organi-
zationS of this church was
$2400.
Mrs. Cecil Squire was re-
turned again as treasurer and
Grafton Squire was named
Chairtrian of the Stewards
Board. There was some dis-
cussion concerning the Mens
Club of Centralia and Whalen
recently organized.
