Dr. J. C. Goddard left Tues- day by plane for Kelowna, p.c, to, attend funeral services for his father, the late Rev. John Goddard. Funeral will be held Thursday, Jan. 21. John Joynt, 13, son of Mr. & Mrs. Donald Joynt, is a patient in War Memorial Chil- dren's Hospital, London. Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 20 from Oud-Beyerland, Holland. MOTHER DIES Mr. Sim Roobol received a cablegram Monday morning in- forming him of the sudden death of his mother, Mrs. J. A. Roo- bol, who died suddenly Monday morning in her 87th year at Oud-Beyerland, Holland. Funeral services were held from St. Paul's Anglican Church saturday conducted by Rev. J. P. Gandon, who paid fitting tribute to his life. Interment was in Baird's cemetery. Bear- ers were Trevor Wilson, Garnet Mousseau, E. R. Davis, Tom Lavender, Dave Kyle, Wilmer Ferguson. Mr. John Henderson, 68, pro- minent and highly esteemed resident and businessman, died in South Huron Hospital, Exeter, Thursday, January 14 where he had been admitted as a patient some two weeks ago with a fractured hip, the result of a fall at his home. He operated Henderson's Produce for many years. He was a former reeve and councillor, former member of the Park Board and PUC, a member of AF & AM Huron Lodge, 224, Hensall, formerly very active in St. Paul's Angli- can Church where he had held several offices. Surviving are his wife the former Margaret Anna Bates; one son, Jack; four daughters, (Lois), Mrs. Keith Lindsay, Willowdale; Jean, Kitkatla, B. C; Sylvia and Kathleen at home; POSTED TO OKINAWA Mrs. Manley Jinks received word that her son-in-law Staff/Sgt Bill Shupe, of Cham- paign, Ill. an instructor in the American Airforce, has been posted to Okinawa, an island in the Pacific by Japan, and leaves by jet the end of this week. Mrs. Shupe and two daughters Sarann andSue-Ellen will leave by jet in the near future to join him. Forrester; treasurer, Mrs. Grant Bisback; From Roy Campbell Zurich Sister speaks to WI Sister Eileen Marie of Sacred Heart Convent, Zurich, was guest speaker at the January meeting of Hensall WI Wednes- day evening, January 13, held in the Legion Hall. She chose for her topic "Cit- izenship and Education" speak- ing on the four main issues, 1 ib e r t y, discipline, tolerance and honesty", and stating that "it is better to build a boy than mend a man." The speaker was introduced by Mrs. James Ben- gough. President Mrs. Beverly Beaton chaired the meeting and extended a welcome to 35 mem- bers and 19 guests. Plans were finalized for the trip to London, the bus will be at the town hall '7:30 pm Satur- day, January 30. Mrs. Carl Payne reported on the resolu- tions committee. Roll call was answered by “Improvements in our school since I was apupil." The motto "Deeds done for yourself die with you, and deeds for others live on" was given by Miss Amy Laramie. Mrs. James McAllister pre- sided for the program which included a poem by herself "Recipe for a New Years Pie"; sing-song directed by Miss Greta Lammie, a piano solo by Miss Joyce Flynn, and a spelling match. Miss Ann Mickle and her group were in charge of the meeting. Miss Lois Simmons, Miss Jane Py- ette and Dave pyette took part in the devotional. Arm Mickle played a piano solo. A highlight of the evening was the guest speaker, Miss Ann Fairbairn of Exeter, who showed her colour slides on her trip to Newfoundland this past summer. Miss Mary Payne had a gaxne in which everyone participated. A skit "Betty at the Baseball Game" was acted out and re- ceived many laughs. The cast included the Misses Gail Sang- ster, Arlene Chipchase, Jane pyette, Ann Mickle, Mary Payne, Robert McNaughton, Dan Lenaghan, Steve Elder, Gary Kyle and John Goddard. Mrs. Gerald Bell read a letter from India and Miss Leila Mc- Falls read the report from the Presbyterial that she and Mrs. Schwalm attended in Clinton January 12. The program was in charge of Mrs. Robert Taylor and Mrs. Harold Bonthron with Mrs. Tay- lor telling a story of emission- ary in the Arctic. New resolu- tions were passed and Valentine gifts for patients in the nursing home here planned. The report of the year was submitted by Mrs. Gerald Bell. A pot luck dinner preceded the meeting and two quilts were quilted during the day, one custom and one for the bale. President Mrs. Harold Par- ker presided for the meeting. Mrs. Jack Brintnell led the worship assisted by Mrs. Ben Stoneman and Mrs. Roy McDon- ald. Mrs. Ali Ross introduced the study book showing a film on Trinidad. Mickle with president Mrs. John Baker In the chair. She presented Mrs. Jack Drysdale with a s 11 v e r spoon for her new daughter Mary on behalf of the club. One prospective member, Mrs. Harold Caldwell, was present. Mrs. Harold Knight read a letter from their adopted Italian child 10-year-old Rosalba. Plans were discussed for the forthcoming March of Dimes Campaign Mr. Bruce R. Dodds, chair- man of the Board of the South Western Ontario Branch of the Rehabilitation Foundation tor the Disabled announced that the objective for this branch in the 1965 March Of Dimes campaign Brown Bear No. 1 Pasteurized HONEY 2 lb. container 59C will be $'72,000.00. A total of $58,629.00 was bud- geted for Branch expense in 1964, and it now appears that this amount will be spent by the year end. The sum of $65,- 840.00 was raised in the 1964 campaign to cover these costs of providing rehabilitation ser- vices for the disabled adults in this branch area. The branch covers the coun- ties of Essex, Elgin, Huron, Kent, Lambton, Middlesex, Norfolk and Oxford. Mrs. Grant MacGregor is the Chief March- ing Mother for the Village of Hensall. The blitz of the town will take place on Monday evening Feb. 1 at 7 pm. Any volunteers may contact Mrs. Bob Caldwell, phone 262-2086.
